I'm trying to decipher cell sector data from various providers to determine the coverage area of a given sector. I'm not using version 10.2 so the Cell Phone Analysis tool isn't an option for now. It's a no-brainer to extract the lat long from the routing sheet and create a point class. However I'm unsure of the other attributes typically provided: Sector Radius: it may say something like <1km but >2km. To me this means the range of the antenna is somewhere around 1.5km or so. If it's an omni-directional antenna (360 degrees) the coverage would be basically a buffer of 1500 meters around the tower x,y. Sector Azimuth: appears to be given in degrees Beam Width: not sure what the units are but I'm guessing degrees. How does one determine the dimensions of a sector polygon given this data? Let's say you have an azimuth of 125, which in my book is South East on the compass. And a Beam Width of 90. Do you add 45 degrees to 125 for one edge of the sector and subtract 45 degrees from 125 for the other edge?

I am having difficulty creating an address locator. I have a street centerline feature class as my primary table. I am unsure what other data is needed for the locator to function. I know I need some sort of city block or address data. I also have a polygon feature class of City parcels that I thought I could use. What sort of 'trouble' are you having? Your centerline feature class should be all you need as long as it has the proper attributes.

Wouldn't it be just as easy (or easier) to extract the data from the sde.default attribute table while in ArcGIS? You could opne the table, query by owner or whatever and then export the results to another table for the users to consume.

I have tried creating an address locator to enable geocode address in London United Kingdom, There is been an error which says the address locator is damaged and cannot be repaired. Please how do i resolve this If we knew what version arcgis you are using and what locator type, it would help. Your file is just a list of addresses, but you are getting an error when building a locator; I would delete the locator, and start over.

Thanks Joe 🙂 I knew the answer is easy but I didn't think it is as easy 😉 I checked and it works. The relationship itself is not added to the Table of Contents, but when I identify a feature in one layer I can see that it is related to a different layer 🙂 Same thing happened to me; struggled with the exact same thing you describe, and then had an "ah ha" moment....

Don't try to add the relationship class; add the two feature classes or what ever is related in the relationship class and it (the relationship class) comes with them.

I'm creating service areas for an emergency response entity, based upon areas that can be reached in 5 minutes. That is easy enough, however I am not sure how to incorporate stop signs into the analysis. Do they go in as Point Barriers / restrictions? And how should they be attributed? thanks for the help That's what I would do; if you have a point feature class for your stop signs, you are almost there. there was an error trying to process this table Whenever I see this posted I respond the same way: check your address data. Field names can't have spaces or special characters and look for <null> values in the fields themselves. This is probably the most asked question in geocoding, so a search should have turned up several responses. Another suggestion: use excel to do your taxes. Maintain data in a data base.

My suggestion is you keep your locator(s) out of a geodatabase and in a standalone directory. Especially SDE; way too much overhead to deal with. I like to maintain the data in SDE (multi editors) and replicate to a file geodatabase: then the locators point there. After I sync parent to child, I just have to rebuild the locator(s).... YMMV...

Create a single field address locator based on the mile marker feature class with the mile marker identifier as the keyfield. As long as your crash data has the same format/value for the mile marker as your feature class identifier field you should be good to go. Once you geocode them, they will 'stack' upon each other since you are using a single point to match them to. You can do your stats with a summary table based on the mile marker identifier; you'll get a count of all the crashes at mm 1, mm 2, mm 3, etc. Join that summary table back into your geocoded points and you can display then by the count ( 47 crashes at mm1, 3 crashes at mm 2 etc).

...which leads me to believe it is a problem with the dataset... The data you are matching to or the address data you are trying to geo-locate? As suggested, post a snippet of the the data you are matching against as well as a snippet of the addresses you trying to match. What locator are you building and what version of ArcGIS are you using?

Thank you Joe for the useful answer. In my case, I wanted to explore if there is a more innovative approach to use the ??Dual Range? style but at the same time to find the EXACT location of the geocoded address. I've known people to address range their streets to the actual physical addresses. Personally I think that's a complete waste of time and energy. I mean, if you have the actual physical addresses, why not create and use points? The thing is, using a linear feature is always going to be using a linear feature. It's cheap and easy and there's lots of data out there to use. But it has it's limitations and no matter how hard you try, those limitations will prevail. I have a colleague who made a great comment in a similar discussion: "What if the Census Bureau /Tiger/DIME files started as points instead of lines? Do you think things would be different today?" Jamal I know you are not in the US but way way way back in the day, Tiger files were all we had to work with. We've come a long way in data quality, but a line is still a line.

Hi all, I'm trying to solve a problem which involves the calculation of the optimum route for e-car according to battery capacity and charging point locations using ArcGIS Network Analyst. My datasets are the road network and the locations of the charging points. I found a solution which involves the use of the Service Areas approach: I calculate distance buffers around the charging stations using as distance the number of miles that the e-car can travel with a fully charged battery, then I exclude the segments of road that are not included in the buffers and so on. I was just wondering if there is a more refined way to solve this problem. I'd greatly appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Francesco You can always refine your approach: how much time/$$ do you want to spend? A fully charged e-car may not run as long at 55 mph versus 25 mph. So maybe you should include speed limits as part of your model. An e-car may not run as long up hill as it does down hill, so maybe z/elevation data might be useful. And what about temperature? Does an e-car run as long at 55 degrees f as it does at 25 degrees f?
