Anthony and Jake- oops... My bad! The map service(s) that I publish combines feature classes from from a SDE geodatabase as well as a file geodatabase. Jake, you're observation is correct that my screen shots showed an edit to and sde centerlines feature class. Only.... The map service consumes a FGD centerlines feature class! Face Palm..... However, in a lame attempt to redeem myself, it only takes a second to refresh a published service so I haven't lost anything (but my pride) in doing so for the past year or so....

Is that something new in 10.1? Because in 10.0 you need to restart it. First image shows a saved edit. Second image shows an active map service moments after the edit was made and saved, without restarting it...

As I understand it, that data is embedded in the CAD drawings. They still have to transform the drawings no matter what you give them.

The problem with a surveyors horizontal control position is that they may make up their own reference system so it may end up being meaningless to the city. If your city GIS people are on the ball, they should be able to rectify or transform your cad drawings using an air photo or some other geo-referenced data. All they need to know is where your drawings appear their data, and they should be able to take it from there... This should be in any GIS 101 class: http://gpshort.uga.edu/instructions/gis/Convert%20an%20AutoCAD%20file%20to%20a%20Shapefile%20and%20Georeferencing.pdf

1500 could be a bit much. I was just fiddling around with a handful of parcels and it wasn't great fun. Not sure how an intersect would work between a shoreline that does not overlap your parcels. (like my image below). Let us know if your workflow provides the solution you're after.

How many parcel-polygons does the 10% represent? You might just have to roll up your sleeves, and spend some time manually extending the coast line edge of those polygons so the extend past the actual coastline and then clip your parcels...

Just for fun, try importing the excel worksheet into a file geodatabase table and geocode there. This is generic error that gets tossed if the field names have spaces or special characters, or when the geocoder hits a null value somewhere. The latter can be problemmatic when importing as you'll get the entire worksheet, even those records at the end that are null all the way across...

It depends a lot on your CAD too. I use Spillman at one site, and they have a 'quickest route' module that makes a call from cad to an ArcGIS Engine app that hits a Network DataSet to return the closest unit with drive time defining closest. However, that site does not use the type of stacking you are describing; it does everything you want it to do though. At another site that uses Versaterm CAD and the same type of stacking you do, there is no quickest route. Check with the CAD vendor and see what they have to offer.

Thanks Robert. If I understand this correctly; 1. Once you make a package, in order to have anything updated, you would need the repackage it, correct? (Unless its a SDE data package.) 2. The recipient(s) need to have some flavor of ArcGis or at least an ArcEngine app to utilize the data, correct?

What flavor geodatabase are you using? Although I am using v10.0 with sp5, I have noticed that file geodatabase polygons are sensitive to unwanted shifts in an edit session. I have reverted back to only editing polygons with classic snapping and setting a sticky tolerance of no less than 1000 pixels and typically more. For the past few sessions things have remained on their best behavior.

I'm not at all familiar with the use of Map Packages, but I guess they've been around since version 9.3 or so. Can anyone tell me what the life span is planned to be? What would be the advantage to using a Map Package over a published ArcGIS Server app?

So, this tool; is it something you wrote , or had someone else write? Can you geocode successfully without the tool?

All those points that are valued 0 cross the board are in your feature class/shape file, right? If so right click on the field heading/name and select Calculate Geometry. Choose the appropriate units and you'll be good to go.

You've been "using this tool for years". My suspicion is that your database isn't updated to 10.1. That's the first thing I would be sure of. Also, locators themselves underwent a major change at 10.1. In addition to the the database itself, you may want to re-create your locator all together.
