If you use explorer.arcgis.com to build your map, you can build queries. Towards the top center of ArcGIS Explorer Online, click on Queries, then in the pane that appears click on New Query. The queries that are saved with the map will show up in ArcGIS for iOS when the same map is opened.

Not the same problem, but having a problem with secured services. This is with Server v10 with service pack 2 applied and the patch for REST security. ArcGIS for iOS is version 1.8.5 (the app, not the API). The service is secured using tokens (SQL Server Express). The map opens through the ArcGIS Servers section of ArcGIS for iOS. The basemap layer loads, then the app switches to a view that asks for the credentials. I provide the credentials, the app hangs for a little while, then switches back to the map but never displays the secured service. Tried zooming in and out to get the secured service to load, but it never does. I would really like to use secured services in this manner. If I can be of any help, contact me at pml at johnsoneng.com. Thanks for any help, Paul Lohr

Does either version of ArcGIS for iOS support layers added with the Add Sublayer as Features command? This command is available within ArcGIS Explorer Online. This is a great idea but it does not seem to work with 1.8.5. I have not done extensive testing to rule out other problems. Thank you for any help, Paul Lohr

Does the ArcGIS Geoportal contain the components necessary to build an ArcGIS Portal? By ArcGIS Portal, I am talking about a website built with the framework of ArcGIS Online but customized for the needs of the organization. The portal has been mentioned in a few places but I'm not sure where to get the components to build it or what licensing is required. Thanks for any help, Paul Lohr

We have quite a few maps within our group. We want to organize content within our group into folders - and members of our group using mobile devices (mainly iOS) should see the maps in the same structure of folders within the group. It sounded like it may be possible to create folders within groups as of the new release of ArcGIS Online...? An e-mail sent to ESRI partners heads in this direction: Enhanced Group Item Management Group owners can now organize and include publicly shared content (that they do not own) into their groups. Group owners now also have the ability to remove items shared with the group by other group members. See Owning groups for more information. Thank you for any help.

I don't have ArcGIS Server 10 yet, but I think you may want to try adding your server in the ArcGIS for iOS application on the Find Maps tab (instead of putting your map on ArcGIS Online). This is probably what you were referring to regarding Content Server.

Good point about the Map Notes. In every map I build on the ArcGIS Explorer Online web application, I delete the Map Notes layer. Otherwise forget using the map on any iOS device (until this is corrected).

Sorry for not being clear on this. This problem does not relate to any code I have written. This is a problem with the ArcGIS for iOS application or ArcGIS Explorer Online (not sure which is the cause).

I have been creating maps with ArcGIS Explorer online to be used on iOS devices. It is good that we can now create maps with our own basemap layer (found at New > Advanced...). Is there a way to set the extent to something other than the extent of the basemap layer? The saved extent is stored with the map in the ArcGIS Explorer online map and the ArcGIS.com viewer map but the iOS devices always zoom to the extent of the basemap layer.

I am fairly new to Objective-C so please take this for what it is worth. I would first check if that long string makes it into your featureCollection NSString object. You probably know this, but you can try NSLogging featureCollection - does the string appear as you expect it in the console?

Thank you for that helpful information, Divesh. The information about the Collection Samples was particularly helpful. Just a quick note: to collect / manipulate features with ArcGIS for iOS v1.5, you must have ArcGIS Server 10. It's a lot of work but you could also write your own code (maybe using another API) that stores features either on the phone itself or sends the features back to a server.

I think developers can include code in their project that enables an external display using one of the Apple display adaptors (dock connector to VGA, dock connector to component video, dock connector to composite video). Does the ArcGIS for iOS application support an external display using these display adaptors? Thanks for any help, Paul Lohr

At version 1.0, I was never able to open a map using a link. At version 1.5, it works as it should. Thank you.
