Username/password of ??ArcGIS Server manager? and the one of "sharing", As we are accessing the (http://localhost:6080/arcgis), we are required to provide the user name and password. Is this also the place where this Username/password created? Is this the Username/password all the users can access the data one the server with? From where this Username/password is edited? How this Username/password is related to the one of ??ArcGIS Server manger? Why the ArcGIS system doesn??t require confirming the password as it??s created? Isn??t that critical? Hi Jamal, Please consider the following: Use Tnsping to insure that you can connect from to the listener. If you do not get a response, restart your listener. If you do, insure that you can connect to your Oracle instance using SQLPlus. If you can connect using SQL plus, there might be something wrong with your connections parameters. Do you have the correct server\instance name? Have you tried using a full Oracle client? Melanie 🙂 Thank you for the answer Melanie I??m very new to this area of application. ? I don??t know what the ??Tnsping? is ? I don??t know how to start the ??listener? ? I??m trying this connection from my machine (mylaptop) and the data is on my machine as well. ? How about the ??full Oracle client?? is it for free? I think that the underlying question/issue relates to what the recommended set of steps is in order to publish/move applications and services from a test system to a production system. For services, I would think that the thing to do would be to republish them. I say that because doing so perform a number of checks which makes sure that your production system is configured properly. If you move and edit files manually then you risk making a mistake which can be difficult to debug. This looks like a good place to start for services: C:\arcgisserver\config-store\services This looks like a good place to start for IIS based web applications (IIS Server Manager can definitely tell you where the application is): C:\inetpub\wwwroot Thank you Richard for the contribution. This is very useful. That is quite satisfactory. Then all what I need to do is just to publish my mxd file again. My issue now relates to the building the web application by??ArcGIS viewer for flex?. Where this development is physically saved on the hard drive? What if I need to store this development on my portable hard drive so that I can work in any other machine (once I connect my hard drive to it)?

ArcSDE personal/workgroup/enterprise In case of ArcSDE Personal, are we still able to access our database (*.mdf) from different machines but not concurrently? How about versions/replica in this case? From the review, am I correct if I say that the only difference between the ArcSDE personal/workgroup/enterprise is the number of concurrently connected users to the database and the size of the database (*.mdf) itself? Thank you very much Best Jamal

The issue of accessing the instance by dot (.)/localhost/computername, I???m not sure if these ???expressions??? are equivalent in case of accessing a local machine by filling dot (.) or local host or computer name for the instance box. , , I got that the ArcSDE WORKGROUP should be accessed by dot but dot by localhost or computer name. Is that correct? Thank you for the answer. Best Jamal

Dear all, I have the same problem as Jamal had when I try to clip my raster. I'm working with WorldClim data and I want to clip my variables at Iberian Peninsula scale. But the clipped raster has alwyas the same cell numbers as the original one!!! I'm using ArcGIS10. My raster are in GRID format and I set all the extents explicitly in Environments but it still doesn't work. Any idea ahat might be the problem this time? And more important, how I can I solve it? Thanks in advance, Best regards, Rita Hi Rita, Did you follow the advice of Patrick (shown in the earlier discussion)? Please, consider ? Environment settings ? Data format ? Using the ??Build Raster Attribute Table (Data Management)? tool after the ??clip?? Best Jamal

The changes on the mxd file are not reflected in its published service, The mxd file is shared as service as shown in the screenshot below: After that, some changes took place on the mxd file. Those changes are not automatically reflected on its service. How to update the service so that all the changes on the original mxd file are reflected on the published version? As indicated in the What's new for geodatabases topic: "The recommended method to access enterprise geodatabases is to connect directly from ArcGIS clients. If you only use direct connections to your geodatabase, you do not have to install the ArcSDE application server." http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/What_s_new_for_geodatabases/016w00000031000000/ If you need to edit settings in the ArcSDE system tables, though, you should still install the command line tools included with the application server. I don't think editing system tables directly through SQL is supported technically. Hi Kimberly, In our institution, we got the ArcGIS server (standard/enterprise). I??m till now a little bit confused regarding the ArcSDE and ArcGIS server. Is the (workgroup/enterprise) refers to the ArcSDE? Is the (basic/standard/advance) refers to ArcGIS server? How the ArcSDE itself is included in the ArcGIS server? I couldn??t figure out how the ArcSDE is overlapped with the ArcGIS Server Thanks Jamal

ArcGIS just by default assumes that the geodatabase administrator is a user called SDE (this is a very old convention of ArcSDE), and automatically creates one if you choose "SDE owned schema" in the "Create Enterprise Geodatabase" tool. If you don't want that, you CAN define a geodatabase administrator yourself by creating a user with any name you desire, but this user must be granted specific rights if it can function as a geodatabase administrator. In that case, you will also need to create the database yourself, and than run the "Enable Enterprise Geodatabase" to create the necessary geodatabase system structure in your database. See the following Help topics for the difference between "Create Enterprise Geodatabase" and "Enable Enterprise Geodatabase" Creating a database and geodatabase in SQL Server Enabling enterprise geodatabase functionality in an existing database As this Help page clearly states: "The Create Enterprise Geodatabase tool creates a database, storage locations, and a database user (EDIT: THIS IS BY DEFAULT THE "SDE" USER, AND IT SEEMS WITH DEFAULT PASSWORD "SDE123") to be used as the geodatabase administrator and owner of the geodatabase depending on the database management system (DBMS) used. It grants the geodatabase administrator privileges required to create a geodatabase, then creates a geodatabase in the database." Thank you Marco for the elaboration. This answer is very precise and informative. All the best Jamal

Hi, Please follow the installation guide for the specific operating system. You basically need to enable/install several IIS features that are not available by default. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/silverlight-viewer/concepts/index.html#/System_requirements/017700000003000000/ Thank you Johan and Alexey for the answer. This is very helpful. It works fine now. Best Jamal
