We also tried creating another 'sdenew' user with the same permissions as the 'sde' user in order to see if it could connect properly. Whereas it appears to initially and expands to show feature datasets, it does not show any feature classes or rasters. That could be because this new login doesn't have permissions to see the data. Just granting 'SELECT' from the database end to the login, should suffice in that case. I still feel its something to do with the permissions during the migration. Check the Database properties, to make sure that the properties show correctly for SDE

Not a Python expert, but lyr.replaceDataSource(src, "FILEGDB_WORKSPACE", "") Shouldn't the above reflect an Enterprise gdb, like below: lyr.replaceDataSource(src, "SDE_WORKSPACE", "") If the above doesn't help, share the errors you receive and that may also help someone to provide an answer....

As the system requirement page mentions: Note: **The Microsoft ODBC Driver 13 for SQL Server is only supported by ArcGIS 10.5.x and 10.4.1 clients. For connections from ArcGIS 10.4 clients, the Microsoft ODBC Driver 11 must be used. So, try the ODBC Driver 13 (64-Bit) in the link that Joshua provided and let us know if that helps.

You can check the SDE_Versions table from the database end. System tables of a geodatabase in SQL Server—Help | ArcGIS Desktop The "state_id" value should change whenever your Editors will Post to QAQC version, so you may somehow use that to get a notification. Usually you can manually check the 'Date Modified' part in the Geodatabase Administration window in ArcCatalog: But this Modified date is NOT a part of the Versions table, so this cannot be used from the database end to keep a check.
