I do not think that our client will honor the "b." or "r" portion. That should not be an issue. Try the Syntax without the "CREATE VIEW readings_view AS" when trying to create view in ArcGIS as George mentioned. Yes, you can connect to a 10.4.x geodatabase using ArcGIS Desktop 10.7 and copy data into another 10.7 geodatabase. Client and geodatabase compatibility—ArcGIS Help | ArcGIS Desktop  If your aim is to upgrade the 10.4 geodatabase, even that is possible from ArcGIS Desktop 10.7 directly. I am not aware which DBMS you are using, but here is a link for SQL Server databases. You can kill the Compress operation and try again... Geodatabase compression—Help | ArcGIS Desktop  Compression can be stopped while it is executing because the operation is designed to be transactionally consistent. Therefore, if the operation encounters an error, fails, or abruptly stops, the versioned tables being compressed are still logically correct with respect to any version's representation. One reason you might stop compression is if you run it while users are connected to the geodatabase, then discover the compression is consuming a large amount of system resources.
