This presentation was presented at the InterGEO conference in Germany (2025). If you ever ask yourself, "Why Parcel Fabric?", this is a good and quick introduction, with many demos you might find interesting.

@MizukiKayano2 The Calculated Area field is designed to calculate the area from the COGO measurements, if they all exist. The COGO measurements are usually in 'ground' units and reflect the real ground area. For quality assurance purposes, this area can be compared with: Shape Area - which is calculated from the feature geometry in the spatial reference (grid) using the spatial reference units. Stated Area - which is the legal area of the parcel, as stated on the legal document, and using the legal area units. Questions: How would the system identify a 'natural boundary' from a line that was cracked and has additional vertices? When calculating an area for a natural boundary, should we internally inverse the COGO values for each small line segment? Wouldn't that mix valid 'ground' COGO with an invalid 'grid' COGO? Why is this needed? Do the legal documents not contain the legal area that should be populated in the 'Stated Area' field? Should we consider extending the schema to classify lines as 'natural boundaries', 'Road Frontage', ...?

@ChrisBaze If you want to export all the true curves here is one way: Add a field on the lines table called something like 'CurveCount' as a long integer Use the Calculate Geometry tool to calculate the number of curves in each line Use Select By Attributes to select the lines that have more zero curves Export the selection to a format of your likings, like a DWG and use XREF to include it in your drawing If you see any line that has more than 1 true curve, you might want to look into it. Are you using Civil3D to edit parcels as demonstrated in this blog? https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/autocad/data-management/connect-gis-and-cad-teams-on-parcel-fabric-workflows-using-arcgis-for-autocad

@ChrisBaze If you are using Pro 3.5 and above, you can make use of the 'vertices and nodes' functionality. 1. Press the button and go into settings 2. Check the option to display true curves (uncheck other irrelevant options)

Make sure you have the SQL client software installed on your machine. That solved my issue. See documentation: https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/system-requirements/11.5/windows/database-requirements-sqlserver.htm In my case I downloaded the 64 bit ODBC driver from MS: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/connect/odbc/download-odbc-driver-for-sql-server?view=sql-server-ver17 Then relaunched ArcGIS Pro and everything worked.

@MichaelVolz The parcel fabric is part of the 'System Of Record' concept. As such we try to be as true to the legal record as possible. 200 lines might not be worth too much effort, but if you had 200,000 it would have been worth the effort to bring them in, assuming they are a good representation of the legal record they came from. Without seeing your data it is hard to provide any advice. Just keep in mind that in the parcel fabric: The COGO direction and the line direction (geometry) are assumed to be the same. You can run the geoprocessing tool Set Parcel Label Position and set the label to be right/left or centered. If you do end up recreating the lines and want the COGO dimensions to be close to the record, make sure to apply to correct ground to grid correction (combined scale factor and basis of bearing). I hope this helps

Hello @MichaelVolz If you find business value in historic parcels, I would load them in. BUT... Make sure they align with the current parcels first. Ideally, you can populate the 'RetiredByRecord' field with the record that retired them, but if not: you can associate them all to a record called 'Inactive Legacy' (or similar). And if that's too much work, populate it with the guid '{DDDDDDDD-DDDD-DDDD-DDDD-DDDDDDDDDDDD}'. I hope this helps and that other organizations share their experiences. We are curious too.

@LECarver_JC If we follow this approach, it will have to seperate 'opening' the deed from 'reading' the deed. This will add at least one more mouse click - are you OK with that? Or should we instead add the ability to paste images from the clipboard?
