Please note- Esri changed something in the 2026 updates and this workflow no longer works because of their setting change:

Hello Pro Team, We're currently working on a Park District wide initiative to improve wayfinding within 30 parks. As part of this initiative we're using our trails centerlines as the network dataset. Our trail centerlines dataset is robust and comprehensive with all the trails across our parks showing both public and internal trail centerlines. Our authoritative dataset lives in an enterprise database and participates in a core transportation feature dataset. In the process of trying to build a Network Dataset from our trails centerline data we noticed that there's no way to be able to query this data in the tool directly from the database. We're looking for only our public trails to participate in this network. Many workflows suggest making cuts/copies of the data to create the appropriate definition query, that defeats the purpose of an enterprise dataset. In the Create Network Dataset GP tool we would like to see an option to create a definition query on the selected dataset(s) and build the network from that selection. Please let us know if you would like any further explanation or if you have any questions. Thanks for your consideration, Amanda Huber

Hi There, Our team has been working on standardizing the Alt text across all our PDF Maps and we're curious if anyone knows if there's an industry standard out there for best practices for what to describe for a map? We've found a few resources for alt text recommendations for complex images and we're aware of best practices for image alt text but so far nothing for describing appearance of maps specifically. Is there a best practice for how detailed or lengthy our alt text descriptions should be? For example, should we be describing wayfinding instructions for accessing the parks (which maps inherently show) or the ecosystem/landscape of the park, what about amenities within? We have a few examples but we're just not sure what the industry standards are or if industry standards for park maps even exist, so we thought we'd reach out here. Thanks in advance for any insight anyone can bring to this! Best, Amanda Huber

Hi @ToddW_stl , The interesting thing is that when that same map is opened in Map Viewer (versus S123) it prompts for SSO login (regardless of the order in the Admin Settings). This was also reproduced in our ArcGIS Dashboard for this map as well. Nonetheless I ran your test and switched the order to be consistent, tested in a new/different S123 form and was still able to reproduce the issue: This seems to be possibly buggy behavior for how S123 handles the token authentication vs other web apps/maps in AGOL. Thanks, Amanda Huber

Hi @ToddW_stl , I took a look at our org settings and it appears the order of these are switched, does this order matter for authentication? I thought it only affected the sign in page. The web map is in ArcGIS Online, only the data is coming from enterprise and is collaborated using the Distributed Collaboration method not stored credentials method. Typically when using Distributed Collaboration and the data is coming from Enterprise there's a message like my second screenshot that allows you to authenticate with portal. Since we're also using SSO, clicking "yes" passes our authentication/token. Hopefully that clarifies a little more. Thanks for your help, Amanda Huber

Hi @ToddW_stl , Happy to clarify! We're using the AGOL S123 Web Designer , but the underlying webmap uses our Enterprise Server Data (distributed collaboration). We're currently on Enterprise 11.5.0 , and yes I do have administrative access to the machine and ArcGIS Portal. Thanks! Amanda Huber

Hi @ToddW_stl , We see it when we publish the S123 but we don't receive this behavior anywhere else in the AGOL platform (map viewer, instant apps, etc). I'm guessing it's something with how S123 passes the token auth. An Esri case was the next on my list! Thanks, Amanda Huber

@Amag140696 happy to answer your questions! You're not too far off but we used a visual trick here since buttons couldn't do what we needed. The number "buttons" on the top right use the list widget with the same source data as the map. Our action is set at the map level to trigger for record selection changes. Then our image widget uses dynamic attachments and our information at the bottom with audio is all using the Feature Info widget. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions for how we configured this 🙂 Best, Amanda Huber

Hi @ToddW_stl , Thanks for your response! To answer your question, the basemap is public but It has one layer that is shared at the organization level. Thanks, Amanda Huber

Update- Unfortunately we just received an update that this enhancement request will not be considered by the Dashboards team: This is a frustrating decision especially when the point of enhancements is to improve the software from it's current limitations.

I completely agree, this functionality is desperately needed. Because of this limitation, we end up having much more overhead and more services to control specific permissions.

Hello S123 Team, It appears we may have found a bug. When adding a map to our survey we get a prompt for Named Credentials. Our organization uses SSO authentication and the layer has been shared to the organization so there should not be any permission issues. This is the screen we should be seeing- Could someone please let us know if this is a known bug? Thanks, Amanda Huber
