All, i was just curious if how the way things are cached in 10.3.1/10.4.1 vs 10.2.2 will cause the cache to be larger in size? we have a map service that we wanted to cache, nothing has changed other than the version, we upgraded from 10.2.2 to 10.4.1 10.2.2 cache size 96gb 10.4.4 cache size 125gb we have havent changed a single thing, not one. we havent changed anything in regards to the map itself and its data, nor have we changed anything in the settings of the service when we publish. thanks Dave

All, i'd like to ask a hypothetical question... say you own a very large commercial farm, with multiple locations within a given area. you have polygons that represent each farm area and you only want the foreman of each area to be able to edit their own area of polygons. is it possible to publish one large map to AGOL but restrict which areas that the foreman can actually edit? foreman A = only edit area A foreman B = only edit area B foreman C = only edit area C President = edit all areas thanks Dave

so we had installed 10.4.1 and built the map cache, we started having issues that could be resolved via support so we actually uninstalled everything and did a fresh install. so basically we went from 10.4.1 to 10.4.1. so i can get to the "layers" of the map service cache located on our T drive, but as soon as i try to bring it into Desktop, it crashes. dave

1) we have removed the status.gdb and tried to rebuild it. a) it said every layer was 0% b) we rebuilt layers 1-9, then tried to rerun the status.gdb rebuild process i) after doing so the status recognized layers 1-9, but did not recognize anything in 10-18 2) we take the same process when reinstalling or upgrading our software when it comes to keeping the cache in place. a) stop the arcgis server service b) rename old cache c) remove software, install software, remove old cache into appropriate newly created folders i) ensure appropriate permissions have been placed on all appropriate folders 3) both publishing patches are in place for 10.4.1 so here we are with some extremely unusual behavior in 10.4.1, we have a support case open and was on the phone for almost 2 hours yesterday. ESRI seemed a bit stumped by the issue, right now all we have is "cache may be corrupt". i wish there was a way to ensure thats the case as it takes two weeks to rebuild the cache in question. dave

so here is what happened... we upgraded to 10.4.1 and published all our services and then started having a bunch of issues and we felt the best course of action would be to uninstall server and reinstall. we kept the map cache to save us time when republishing our map. after install 10.4.1 for a 2nd time we cannot access the cache for the map. when looking at the REST end point the map does not display. we can see in the developer tools that the request is being made for the correct location for the different layers of the map but for some reason the cache cannot be accessed. yes the permissions are all set for appropriate folders, the server manager site does show a cache status of 100% but it just cant access the actual bundles for some reason. has anyone encountered this? thanks dave

All i downloaded and started using the script located here: https://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2014/01/24/updating-your-hosted-feature-service-for-10-2/#comment-11428 a question for others that are using this: i noticed that in using this script it overwrites any setting you had saved with the existing service on AGOL. i have a feature service on AGOL which i enabled the ability to "export". i noticed once i ran the above script to update the service it actually removed the ability to "export". have others experienced this or am i just missing something? thanks Dave

All I would like to see the trace tool functionality be available for AGOL for polygon editing. Its nice that the snapping functionality exists but Trace Tool would make creating new polygons within AGOL much easier. I understand the user could just export to desktop to edit, but in my defeats the purpose of using AGOL. thanks Dave T.

All, I was digging around trying to find if the Trace Tool exists in AGOL or not? I was happy to see there is a snapping functionality but tracing would be much better for polygons with lots of vertices. thanks Dave T.

all, Windows VM (2012 R2) Only errors in logs is: "Unable to process request. Error handling service request :Could not find a service with the name '####/MapServer/Support' in the configured clusters. Service may be stopped or ArcGIS Server may not be running." (I watch the service in server manager just sit there in "starting" status and never come back to "started") Single Machine Site during the script process we can watch the the SOCs come and go. even after the data is copied over and the service is started back up with the see the SOCs come back in the task manager as up and running but the server manager is stuck at "starting" hope this helps dave

update... so token response does come back, but for some reason there is no response back that the service actually started if it did indeed ever start back up completely. dave

All, we are running into a new issue... we are currently working with esri support but also wanted to reach out to everyone here as well and see if anyone has experienced this... we have python scripts that to some minimal work, nothing advanced but one less thing we have to worry about: Python Update Script Process 1) stop service 2) copy over new data 3) start service this is extremely simplified but its pretty basic. we are noticing now that when our script attempts to start the service back up and waits for token response from the service that it stalls out and we never get a response. so we successfully stop the service, do our work, try to restart the service and never get a response back. i look at the task manager of the machine and it shows the ArcSOCs are running for the service in question, but the ESRI manager site shows the service as "starting" and never fully recovers. thoughts? dave

Were using desktop and server 10.4.1 now and it just seem like were always fixing one issue only to find a new one... we are allowing up to 6 instances to run to help with the caching time, below is a screenshot of the cache status after 30min of running! we got nothing! anyone else experience this? dave
