in regards to general upgrading... i thought when upgrading Desktop you were supposed to be able to keep all your database connections and server connections, is this not the case? i have noticed when upgrading from 10.2.2 to 10.3.1 and/or 10.4.1 we lose all database connections and server connections. dave

we have taken the upgrade approach of "n-1" where n = newest version. we will from this point forward remain one step behind the latest version of ESRI software. It would be interesting to hear from ESRI if this is an issue they know about or if they are hearing more and more about. dave

Has anyone noticed the flexnet structure becoming corrupt more so than usual? I ask this because we have started to move from 10.2.2 to 10.4.1 and the licensing seems to more unstable. We just had two VMs today that the licensing for no apparent reason went "untrusted". Now i know there is a little site from ESRI that they dont like the licensing to be on VMs as they are more unstable than physical machines...but thats just not an option for us, at least not at this time. so i was just curious if others were running into this and any possible solutions to make the licensing more stable. thanks Dave

started to dig into the windows even logs.... seems that machine hit some critical errors and crashed... its a VM not on site but through a client, i wouldn't think that a crash of the machine would cause the server to become so corrupt that the only option would be to completely reinstall. dave

1) we use that same path to access the manager - unauthorized access 2) password we have set to use is set to never expire 3) cannot access with primary admin account - unauthorized access 4) we have tried different browsers - unauthorized access i am looking at the server logs and it seems to be stuck in an infinite loop of recycling services, and here are a few of the errors were seeing in the logs: "Unable to connect to the identity store using SSL. ArcGIS Server will revert to using a non-SSL connection to the identity store and credentials will be sent in clear text. In order to use SSL, verify that your identity store has SSL enabled." "Recycling is configured for service..." - are seeing this error repeat itself many times for each service on the server "Error while processing catalog request. AutomationException: Unspecified error" "ServiceCatalog failed to process request. AutomationException: 0xc00cee3a" the above two errors are always paired together so we see that paired error followed by trying to restart each service again, and it seems stuck in this loop. Dave

All, so something we have experienced now for a 2nd time is randomly losing access to the server manager... when we try to log into the server manger site for 10.2.2 the screen shows "Unauthorized Access" at the time. nothing has changed in the environment, no one has changed any settings to the ESRI server, 100% random. this happened once before and with the help of ESRI support the best solution was to completely remove the installation of server and reinstall everything...completely unacceptable in my book. well here we are again, so i wanted to ask on here first if anyone has experienced this before and has a better solution than just uninstalling and reinstalling server? we are able to access the admin site and work through that, it seems isolated to the manager site. i checked the status of the machine and everything is listed as "running". thanks Dave

ESRI it would be great if you could add the ability to actually to choose a time (ie: 6:00am) for the refresh interval to run. this would be nice if you keep a service open all the time and you know it's going update nightly, it would be nice just to tell it to refresh at a certain time instead of just an interval. Sorry if i wasnt as clear in my original post... 1) SQL db is created from data a) this db has a spatial component of QC errors b) we create an esri view of the db so we can see the errors spatially in desktop 2) We want to serve this QC layer out as a hosted service in AGOL a) client would like to be able to see/share errors spatially b) client would like to be able to download errors as a shapefile or gdb 3) The SQL db is updated daily behind the scenes and we would like these changes reflected automatically. We did test this with publishing the view as a feature service to our Server first and then pushed it to our AGOL account. We were able to see changes to the data live, but we lost the functionality of being able to download the errors as a shapefile and/or gdb in doing that. It isnt a horrible option to automate the overwrite process from desktop to the hosted AGOL service. is there any documentation on automating that process? thanks for your help. Dave
