Actually, I figured this out. Using the "intersection" operator on the ZIPs with my other polygon works fine. The result layer sadly does tack on the thing on the outside that share a line segment with my polygon. I didn't realize the reason I could edit this resultant polygon is that it was locked by default. Unlock it, and snip away the odd ZIP that I don't need. Very weird how intersection and "within" operators seem to be equivalent for polygon vs polygon operations. What I was after was a good "clip to path" type operator. AGOL just doesn't have the full suite from Pro.

It has been established that AGOL has access to some good boundary layers on the Living Atlas and other places. How do I "snip a portion off" of these system layers? Let's say I put on the ZIP layer, and I want to snip off just the ZIPs that are within some boundary...like the city of Phoenix or the CBSA. What is the workflow? Every time I try to use an operation like "intersects" it doesn't do it? I need to end up with a separate layer with just the stuff I want in it. I want to display and enrich just the resultant features, not the whole thing. Bonus question: why does BAO have an ESRI 2020 pop layer, but AGOL only has ESRI 2020 pop density layer? Thank You.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, Google is doing a LOT in there, I was hoping it was standardized somewhere. For Phoenix metro, its pretty good: neighborhoods like Arcadia and Biltmore are pretty well defined. The Urban Villages map is available from City of Phoenix, but it is really more of a "job center" and nobody really cares about the names like the do in the older parts of Phoenix. I noticed my old hometown of Minneapolis is quite well labeled in GoogleMaps as well. Thanks for the info, cheers!

Does ESRI (or anybody) have a layer that has all of the neighborhood and urban village names like GoogleMaps does? I live in Phoenix metro, so I want to see "real" cities like Paradise Valley, Scottsdale, Phoenix, etc. but also see village and neighborhood names like "Arcadia" and "Biltmore". This are a step more than the CDPs that ESRI has, I have to think this data is around someplace?

I see that you have 2 sources of information for BAO now, InfogGraph and SafeGraph. When to use? Are they trying to be similar, or are the complements? I LOVE that you allow full address data in BAO extracts now, we use it to monitor competitor clinics, and makes matching to other sources MUCH easier. Thanks!

I assume the update for demographics for 2020/2025 will come out in a month or so as usual. My question is: is it "in the can" already? Or will it contain--especially for 2025--updates from the current COVID-19 economic implosion? We are a healthcare company, so we are looking for any type of resource that might estimate how layoffs will affect our payor mix: e.g. will there be more Medicaid coming in and fewer insured patients coming in for the next year? 2 years? AZ is tough--it was doing great economically and population growth, but COVID-19 blew up tourism, and people can't move here if they can't sell their houses back in the cold, snowy midwest. Any guidance on how to forecast effects? Or with good luck, the implosion will only last one season, and things will get back to normal by 2021 demographics? Anybody have any thoughts on this matter? Thank You.

I did a support incident. Basically, the resolution of it was "sometimes maps get corrupted, so start over with a fresh map, re-add your layers, and it will be OK". And that was correct, but not at all amusing. Good luck!

I tested from home, on a Mac, with all 3 browsers. Same result, can't enrich in one map, stick it in a blank map, no problem. Very irritating!!! I guess I'll have to do a support incident.

I just did a test. I normally use Chrome (recent version), but fired up IE 11 to try, same behavior.

I'm having a persistent problem in AGOL. I make a mundane layer, like a drive-time layer or something, and when I go to use "enrich layer", I can click on it, but it doesn't work. It doesn't bring up the parameters, its as if I didn't click on it. If I exit the map, make a new map, stick in the layer I want to enrich in this new map, I can enrich no problem. Then I exit the new dummy map, re-open my old map, and add the enriched layer, and I can use it fine. This has been going on for about 2 months, and persists across new maps, old maps, new layers, old layers, whatever. Is this a bug? Anybody else have this?

Wow! Thanks! Now that I know the correct terminology, I was able to find a lot about this technique. Sadly, nothing in AGOL. So, I will try to give it a whirl in Pro or other platform. Nice to know there's a completely well-known technique for what I was thinking of. I had a feeling there would be. THANKS!!!

I have a need to create a sort of "drive time force field" feature. The idea is that I have several points, and I start driving from all of the simultaneously, and I want to get the resulting area feature from all of the start points where they run into one another. Then I could look at population and other things inside those areas. Kind of like this: There's 3 locations, and they all run into each other in the line scratched in red on the blue "iso-drive-time" lines. I want to get the "zone 3" polygon for each dot. The idea would be I don't want anything over 15min, I just want to get the zone of contention, so to speak. Maybe like in physics, I'm thinking of calculating where gravity/electric/magnetic field would null out from the distance of the points? It would like running the drivetime function on 3 points at a time, but somehow using a smart version of the "split" option for the "areas of different points" input, only it would be smart, stop moving at the intersections with the other points' drivetimes. Any ideas on how to do this in AGOL? Any ideas in general on doing it in Pro or any other platform? Thank You.

Outstanding! Fantastic answer, thanks for hanging in there with me. It was what I was hoping the answer was. One note: the ZIP layers in Living Atlas/AGOL are what I call the "ZIP/ZCTA census outlines". I can tell from the shape of some of our key ZIPs, 85085 and 85086. and Here's what a call the TomTom/HERE ZIPs in BAO, totally different. I understand they might be closer to actual USPS behavior for delivery, and this is a value-add for many customers, but for us this difference means that we can't really use BAO maps for any ZIP-based work. Thanks very much, have a great weekend.

Routine display and enrichment of these various types of boundaries. I just want to make sure I know how to get the latest, canonical version of these boundaries. E.g. how do I know if I need to check for a year or not? Also, the ZCTA Census "ZIP" boundaries are WAY different than the TomTom/HERE/whatever boundaries. We standarized on the Census ZCTA/ZIP ones. (Oddly, only can use TomTom/HERE ones in Business Analyst Online.) I don't want the layer boundaries to be subject to change afterwards, and also want to make sure we do have the latest. There are at least 2 versions from ESRI or esri_dm that appear to be the same, some have years, some don't. It's weird. All are in the "Living Atlas". I'd like it if they just tacked the year on everything, for starters. But, glad to see them curating this content for us, way nicer. Anybody know where I can get the definitive answer?
