Using a shapefile in ArcGIS Explorer Desktop your attribute would need to look like this for a local file. file:///C:/Users/Public/Documents/note.txt and you would have to specify it the layer properties. The popup would then show the file in the popup window.

Martin, There is a workaround you could try. The amount you can zoom into a map is controlled by the scale levels in the service you use for your basemap. Use a Dynamic (non-cached) map service as your basemap. it doesn't have any scales, so the zoom will be unlimited. This shows using a service.. I used one from http://sampleserver1.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Demographics/ESRI_Census_USA/MapServer/ Use one that has the least amount of data as possible. Then add your cached service to the map.. I just used world imagery. Make sure the Coordinate systems are the same so that your cached service isn't re-projecting to match the basemap, which is a display performance drag. then zoom in... When you go past the last level you will see the underlining map service. Mark

Tony, It would require coding. There isn't any built in workaround for this in ArcReader. You could take a look at ArcGIS Explorer Desktop, it would require changes to how you create and deliver maps, but it does have a refresh interval setting (1 minute minimum) built in for layers. You could save a layer file from ArcMap that references your geodatabse data. Add the layer to ArcGIS Explorer and set the refresh interval. As the data changes it will update the map at the 1 minute refresh interval. Mark

Operations Dashboard and / or Web maps with refresh intervals specified on the layer is what you would want to look into for providing this type of map to your users. Using ArcReader you would need to create a custom ArcReader Control application to get auto refreshing, or perhaps use a custom layer in your map. Mark

Use geodatabase feature attachments and then Package the whole map, creating a map package. The map package will contain the MXD and all data necessary to display it. It can work completely disconnected from a network or internet. Mark

Lane and Jeff, You don't have to re-publish your services. It just a matter of building your web map differently from the services you already published. As Heather wrote when using the rest URL make sure you include the layer number. Mark

Scott, It sounds like you are hitting a limit of the service. It will only give 2000 records in one request. Are you using a feature service? If you are and you own it or if you don't own it and it is allowed, you can use ArcGIS online to export the data to a File Geodatabase on your computer. It should export all of the records. Mark

When you create your web map, if you add the layer from web and put in the full rest URL to the layer when you author the webmap, ex..http:// sampleserver1.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/TaxParcel/AssessorsLiveLayers/MapServer/1http://sampleserver1.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/TaxParcel/AssessorsLiveLayers/MapServer/1 Configure the Popup, save the map. Opening the map in Explorer on the Iphone may show the links to the attachments. (it worked in my test) I reproduce what you were seeing with attachments or rather not seeing when I added the service to the map by "Searching for layer" and entering my server, and adding the layer from the list. When I entered the full url to the layer as pictured above, the attachements were accessible in Explorer on the Iphone. Note the the URL above does not have any attachments it is just an example of what I mean by full URL to the layer. For your map you can get the full URL by clicking description on the menu. From the Service rest endpoint click on the layer, and copy the full URL from the browser address. Mark

Lane, How did you share your enterprise DB with ArcGIS Online? I shared one from ArcMap by Publishing a Service (Feature Service) to my organization. I created a web map with ArcGIS online and opened the map in Explorer for ArcGIS on the Iphone, and the Feature attachement was accessible. In my case it was a .jpg image and clicking on it in the attribute list displayed the image on the phone. Mark
