David, Another separate question. We use lumenrt for our visualization and I'm trying to substitute their car/character models for the lowpolygon3d ones. I've been able to successfully add them but they're facing the wrong direction. Any help?

I'm trying to add the ability to rotate the vehicles after they're loaded. Obviously my CGA knowledge is limited and everything I've tried doesn't do anything. Any thoughts? import LumenRT: "/LumenRT/rules/ImmersiveNature.cga" RandomCar--> LumenRT.Vehicle(LumenRT.GetRandomCar) Scott

David, A bit of follow up (though different) on this. I'm looking for some of the symbols to actually be sharrows (we'll leave aside the fact that to many, myself included, sharrows aren't particularly helpful for a bicycle network). I see in the assets that there is a bike logo without an arrow and I can edit it slightly to add sharrows. How then do I get the rule to reference this image instead of the normal one? Scott

Micah, I received an answer from Lumenrt and just running through some initial tests it works perfect. Here's the thread (e-on software - Viewtopic ) Interestingly, now that I can export a scene without exporting the terrain (that is to use the terrain export proxy instead of clicking export visible terrains within the export dialog) the scenes are generating in Lumenrt much quicker. To follow up on our previous discussion, I have had several interactions with David Burdick (the representative from Lumenrt) and he's right on top of things so they certainly have that going for them on the support side.

Micah, As far as suggestion #2, how do I reclassify into a normalized data set of 0 to 65535? I'm familiar with reclassifying but not sure about the normalizing. Scott (Separately I agree totally about the power of Lumenrt but the frustrations as well. Perhaps since they were purchased by Bentley we might see better tech support. They still seem very much like a startup software company.)

I'm trying to troubleshoot a workflow where I export scenes from CE into Lumenrt and the terrain becomes "sculptable" in Lumenrt. As it stands now, I can get the "sculptable" terrain into Lumenrt but it's not keeping any of its heightmap attributes. It just remains flat. Here is the response I received from Lumenrt support: Hi Scott, Thanks for the files. The 32-bit TIFF format is indeed not supported. As for your 16-bit TIFF image, I noticed that all values are very close: it only uses a very small part of the full 16-bit range (0 to 65535). Actually, for maximum precision, LumenRT expects the heightmap to use the full range of values, i.e. the lowest part of your terrain should have value 0, and the highest part should have value 65535, independently of the real-world altitudes. The real-world altitude range is specified separately. For example, if the real altitudes of your terrain are between 3 meters (lowest altitude) and 15m (highest altitude), then the heightmap image should be filled so that points with altitude 3m have value 0 (full black) and points with altitude 15m have value 65535 (full white). And aside from the heightmap, CityEngine should tell LumenRT that value 0 corresponds to 3m and value 65535 corresponds to 15m, so that LumenRT can build the terrain with correct real-world altitudes. So maybe you can adjust the CityEngine settings so that it better corresponds to what LumenRT expects. Any suggestions? Scott

Interesting. For my CityEngine workflow I routinely create scenes that are too large for ArcGIS Online (upwards of 100 mb) and I've been patiently waiting for the ability to publish to ArcServer (I have acces to ArcServer but not Portal which is currently mandatory for web scene publishing). I know this is on the roadmap for CityEngine this year but does anyone know if I could download the web scene viewer and then host large scenes on my own server. The bottom of the download link mentioned above makes it seem possible. Has anyone else tried this? ********************************************************** Use CityEngine Web Viewer application on custom web server ********************************************************** 1. download webviewer package from ArcGIS online * http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=38fede3935a440e49cf316dcae6aae47 * Open -> download 2. Unzip downloaded package into the web server's document root (or into a subfolder) 3. delete ceviewer.html 4. rename ceviewer_offline.html to viewer.html 5. parallel to the folder webviewer/, create a folder webscenes/ 6. place your web scene(s) (.3ws files) in folder webscenes/ 7. access Web Scenes in two ways: a) reference the webscene with url parameter: http://SERVER.DOMAIN/PATH/TO/WEBVIEWER/viewer.html?3dWebScene=../webscenes/NAME_OF_WEBSCENE.3ws b) open the viewer with no parameters, and drag a local 3ws file onto it: http://SERVER.DOMAIN/PATH/TO/WEBVIEWER/viewer.html Notes: * For IIS server, .3ws extension needs to be added as MIME type. I think I'd be inclined to want the last stamp removed entirely or at least have it drop away based on symbol or conflict spacing. In a perfect world, where multiple small segments wouldn't be needed, I think it would be nice to have the last stamp since it would automatically mark the beginning and end of the bike lane but the added flexibility of having it drop away would be important in this situation. Your second suggestion would work as well but I'm wondering if their might still be situations where you'd want to drop the stamp even if an intersection is next (perhaps if the intersection is really big?). Not sure if this would ever happen but I've found it's hard to predict all the particulars.

Yes it was intentional, but just for the example. I'll increase the spacing for the real thing. In the end I think you're correct that in order to do what I'm asking I would need to just delete the second stamp but let me run through a few scenarios and you can tell me if I'm understanding it correctly. I'm only concerned with the selected segment in these. First attachment shows the spacing as far as it can get for the segment. Second attachment, as the symbol spacing is increated the stamps start to decrease in size but instead of it dropping to one stamp (like it will drop from 5 to 4, 4 to 3, etc.) it just reduces the size of the stamps. Eventually, in attachment 3, the stamps get so small as to not be noticeable. At no point will the spacing cause the segment to only have one stamp, correct? Scott

It definitely allows more flexibility (and ultimately it gets me close enough) but it still appears as if the symbol shows up at the beginning and end of the road segment regardless of the settings. I've attached a few shots showing the road I'm looking to model and where I am so far. As you can see from #3, I've divided the road into several segments to allow for the curb cuts, but for some of the shorter segments (particularly at the beginning and end) I don't need two bike symbols for this small section. It seems that the rule defaults to two regardless of whether the conflict spacing is used or not (#4 compared to #5) As the conflict spacing gets larger the symbols just get smaller. It never drops to one symbol. Finally, let me say again what an awesome resource this is and say thanks for your help.

Will do. I;m assuming the most recent version is always going to be at the Google Drive link mentioned here: Complete Street Rule Update ?

Cheryl, Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I'm quite green when it comes to CGA coding. What do you mean by the building part? I'm using an imported .dae, converting it to shapes, making a few edits to it and then running a simple shape to model rule (Shape--> color (1,1,1)). Where/how should I add the wireframe coding?

Does anyone have a CGA rule or otherwise know how to add wireframes that will remain upon export (either .dae or multipatch)? I'm trying to take the following model and export to lumenrt but since the model doesn't have materials you can't get a real sense of the articulation of the building. Scott

David, Is there any way to suppress the bicycle symbol on a bike lane. I'm creating curb cuts by doing multiple street segments but this results in too many symbols. I've adjusted the bike symbol spacing parameter but it appears that the default is at least one at the beginning and one at the end.
