Kimberly. ArcPad employs a "Last edit in wins" rule. ArcPad and ArcMap know what the status is for each feature in the database. Features can be new, modified, deleted, etc. When you then check your edits in, the status will change to "Processed". If your field crews are only obtaining NEW data and aren't modifying existing data, then it does not matter in which order they get checked in. It's all new and unique so it all gets saved back to the geodatabase it came from. However, if your field crew are modifying existing features, and two workers end up modifying the same feature, the last edit which you check in will be shown for that particular feature and the other data for that feature will be lost. Hope that makes sense.

Merrill, Check out my post on this thread regarding the "Add XYZ" applet. If you set up a feature class or shapefile with the corresponding fields specified in the applet this info will automatically get recorded. You just need to make sure you've copied the applet into your applets folder.

Jacob, Part of the issue here is that while you may have plenty of available memory on your device, ArcPad can only consume a small portion of it. As it reaches the maximum allotment you start to run into memory issues. Check out my post on this thread which discusses some general performance related suggestions. A neat trick if you didn't know, by clicking (or double-clicking) the "V" in the lower right-hand corner of the application it will bring up a memory usage bar. Using this will allow you to troubleshoot and determine which layers are putting the most strain on your available memory.

Alex, If you create a one-to-many relationship class between a feature class and a geodatabase table before you check the data out for ArcPad, ArcPad will automatically create a table form for you which will allow you to enter records into the related table for each feature in your feature class. When you edit a feature in ArcPad the related table form will be accessible from the last tab in the edit form. A few tips: 1. Your geodatabase table must be in the mxd at checkout. 2. Save your mxd. 3. Check out for disconnected editing. If you aren't checking your data in / out from ArcGIS Desktop and are only using shapefiles in ArcPad this process will be MUCH trickier.

I really don't recall. It's been a while since I've used it. If I have some time soon I'll take a look at it. Your other option (although it's an extra step) is to check your data back into the geodatabase and then run the Add XY geoprocessing tool on the feature class.

You've got it. The field types also need to match appropriately, from what I recall most of the integer fields need to be floats. If for some reason you test and the values aren't getting written, mess around with the field types. I agree, it would be nice to see this implemented into the core package. All of these properties are accessible via code, so these modifications could also be implemented into any custom form using vbscript or jscript.

Mark, Check out this thread which has a link to a handy applet you can use to accomplish numbers 2-5. Number 1 isn't as easy. If you're using shapefiles you can set this up via the .apl file in ArcPad Studio without much trouble. If you're using feature classes within an axf file it's going to take some more work. A quick search through these forums should bring up many links to auto incrementing in ArcPad.

Bart, I'm not privy to the same info that I was before as I've changes jobs. However, as you've discovered I know for certain that the issue is still present at the most recent release, SP4. Perhaps someone else will chime in on this one.

Amy, A year ago this was a known bug - I assume the issue is still present. At that time I don't thing there was a way in which to work around the problem. Perhaps there is now, but I sort of doubt it. You could try creating pick lists with dbf files via ArcPad Studio, but that process tends to be way more complicated (due to bugs) than it should. CQ00312805: Coded value domain values are sorted differently in ArcPad edit forms than in the domain itself.

Hmm... I wasn't aware that the pivot field had to be an integer type (which is what I think you were referring to) but I just tried it and I'm getting strange results. According to the help doc, it lists the input data type for the pivot field as "field". Also, it says, "If the pivot field is a numeric type, its value will be appended to its original field name in the output table.". To me, this would mean that your pivot field could also be a string. Do you actually have three fields in your input table? Parcel ID, Record, Legal Description? I ran a test with a table with the three fields above (with Record being an integer) and the output was produced successfully. However, I tried the same thing with the "Record" field as a string and I got empty rows returned. A quick search didn't return anything for me that is bug related, so I'll need to dig into this one a little deeper. Can't say I've spent much time with the Pivot Table tool before. You mention that "I need a string". Can you clarify that statement? Is that a string for the "Record" field or a string for the "Legal Description" field?

Hi Mark. You'll want to use the Pivot Table GP tool (ArcInfo only) to achieve this result. 1. Select your input table 2. Choose the input fields (Parcel ID) 3. Choose the pivot field (Legal Description count - 1, 2, 3, etc) 4. Choose the value field (field with actual description)

Adam, When you check out your data to axf format (using the ArcPad Data Manager toolbar) a new field gets added behind the scenes called "AXF_STATUS". This status field holds numerical values which indicate what should be done to the features when checking them back in. For existing features that get checked out but do not get modified, the value in the status field indicates to ArcPad that nothing should be done to the original features. Nothing will get checked back in and nothing will happen to the existing features in the geodatabase. If you added a new feature, a status number would indicate that and it would be copied into the geodatabase. Likewise, if you modified an existing feature's attributes, geometry, deleted it, etc, a status number would indicate what action was performed and the necessary changes would be made back in the geodatabase from which the data came. Hope that helps.

Elvin, Unfortunately, this functionality is not available within ArcGIS Desktop. The following enhancement request has been submitted for this functionality: NIM001742: Enhancement Request: Write image export file with world file or GeoTiff when exporting from layout view. I would also suggest that you submit this idea to the ArcGIS Ideas site. A possible workaround (which isn't that user friendly...) would be to convert your layout elements (legend, title, scale bar, north arrow, etc) to graphics. Copy and paste the graphics from layout view into data view, position them accordingly, and then export the map. Thanks.

Elvin, From "File Menu > Export Map" you can export maps with world files by checking the "Write World File" box for the following file types: BMP, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF Please be aware that you can only export maps with world files while in Data View. Maps exported from Layout View do NOT provide this option. Please check out the Exporting your map help topic for more info on exporting maps to be used as georeferenced raster data.
