@NicolasGIS here is the title of the bug: "Encoding in Response (effected non ascii-characters) is not correct, on 2nd request againts MapService with returnAdvancedSymbols=true" About the ETA, unfortunately I don't have anything to share at this point 😞 Thanks for letting us know that this is very critical for you. I will try out best to get a resolution as soon as we can. As for a patch request, please reach out to support to request for one. That is beyond me. Sorry that I don't have any good news for you... but I will keep you updated as we make progress.

you are right, that should just work if your data are in enterprise database. Sorry I was thinking of some complicated workflows.

you can use SOI and map service's clip/spatial filter capabilities to accomplish that. https://developers.arcgis.com/enterprise-sdk/guide/net/what-is-an-soi-net/ look for clipping and spatialFilters parameters in map service export operation help. https://developers.arcgis.com/rest/services-reference/enterprise/export-map.htm The same options area available for Identify operation. For query you would need to use geometry parameter.

@AbiDhakal Making query unavailable to public also does not work. If you turn off query operation, it only impact if you add a layer off a map service as a feature layer. If you add the entire map service as map image layer (aka map service layer), then this query operation should not affect while drawing (as the draw technically happens on the server) and legend. Popup should continue to work as JS API at that point should fall back to identify operation. The areas that will not work, when you have query operation turned off, are 'opening attribute tables' and some widgets that rely solely on query operations. it is just a FYI 🙂

IMPORTANT NOTES (clarification): I am NOT asking anyone to make services public. A bit of communication in that area that happened up in the chain was ONLY for testing purpose to acquire some information help us debug this issue. We understand this is a bug and we are working on to resolve this as soon as we can. We appreciate your patience and apologies for inconvenience. We are NOT at all suggesting making secured services public as a work around or anything like that.

It is very odd that query operation gets timed out while returning on 10,000 point features. How long does it take to draw them when you actually access SDE directly (not map/feature services involved) in ArcGIS Pro. Also, did you add a map image layer (aka map service layer) or a feature layer in your web app/map? That said, there are lot of thing that are involved when it comes to performance. Unless some members of this community gives you some suggestions that might work for you, I'd strongly recommend you to call Esri Support and they should be able to help you out.

Thanks @AbiDhakal for providing clarification. Once I get all the details from the analyst, we will dig in. We don't want you services made public unnecessarily either 🙂

Thank you for the clue. I made my service public, but made sure I had 'Enable ownership-based access control on features'. I first did this for only the feature service and that did not help, so I made both image service and feature service public as well as 'Enabled ownership-based access control on features', my legends are now showing up. I can only hope that my service do not get into public hands. Do you have any suggestion? Just to let you know I'm testing this with some of your Esri colleagues. @AbiDhakal thanks for providing me your test results. With 'image service', did you 'map image layer' (off a map service) or 'image service layer' (off an image service)? But it is still odd that you had to make it public to see legends. Once the analyst reaches back to me, we will investigate further. Now, back to the original 11.1 non-legend related issue where layers don't show up in the output -- I imagine that works when you make the service pubic, right? Please note, I'm not asking you to making your service public as a workaround, it is only to do some testing to help us get better understanding of the situation.

Thanks @AbiDhakal Meanwhile, I looked at the other bug that mentioned. Unfortunately we were not able to reproduce this in house with the repro steps included in the bug. And I don't anyone else reported the legend issue either. Looks like you are some unique situation that made legend to not show up for feature layer. We are working with the support analysts to figure out a way to repro that and we can go from there.

thanks @AbiDhakal for prompt response. followup question -- did you happen to try with a public service (that doesn't require credentials)? did that work for you? are your basemap layers from arcgis online? or your own and they are secured too?
