What is the best route to take in order to connect building floors using stairs as in the ESRI Campus example web scene (http://www.arcgis.com/apps/CEWebViewer/viewer.html?3dWebScene=9c0e319bfaff4d33a0fe2da97c2c3fd7 )? I am unsure of how to best approach this.... I currently have floor layers that have attributes distinguishing stairwells. My floors have been added from file geodatabases and the height offset has been manually set while aligning to terrain. Any advice or suggestions would be super helpful! Thanks! Tess

Well still no luck with the search functions. I was able to get the hydrant shapes in (with a different .obj file and a relative path), but the textures didn't come through correctly. In order to apply the color I was looking for, I ended up using this CGA rule to apply a custom texture: version "2015.1" attr myFireHydrantPoints = "assets/FireHydrant/fire hydrant.obj" attr H=0 attr Texture="assets/FireHydrant/red1.jpg" @StartRule Point--> alignScopeToAxes(y) s(0,H,0) center(xz) r(0,rand(360),0) i(myFireHydrantPoints) comp (f) {all: HydrantTexture} HydrantTexture--> texture(Texture) Thanks for the help! Are the asset search functions performed within a rule? I have been working with a few (i.e. fileSearch, fileExists, and assetInfo) and am not seeing anything being printed. I do not see a CGA console... Thanks for your help and patience...just learning CE and CGA Tess

Is SDE supported in CityEngine 2015? If not, is this something that is in the works? Any ideas to circumnavigate this to retain the ability to work with live data?

...hmm the relative path didn't seem to do much. I'll keep pecking away at it though. Thanks for the help! Tess

I am having a similar issue loading OBJ models to point locations. I have created a quick CGA rule to apply to the points to load the .obj models I need. In my case, I am hoping to insert fire hydrants to point locations in my scene. I keep receiving an 'unknown asset' error at the point locations. If I add in a texture rule them I receive an 'unknown texture error'. I have made sure the .obj, .mtl, and any .jpg textures are included in the mapped folder. After having the same issues loading models I had downloaded. I ended up trying to use the fire hydrant in the original Downtown Damage example folder. I have mapped to assets>streets in that folder (the .obj, .mtl, and .jpg images are in the folder) and am still receiving the 'unknown asset' error when I try to load the fire hydrants. The CGA rule I currently have is: version "2015.1" attr myFireHydrantPoints = "C:/Users/gardta/Desktop/Example_Downtown_Damage__2011_2/assets/streets/hydrant.obj" attr H = 0 @StartRule Point--> alignScopeToAxes(y) s(0,H,0) center(xz) r(0,rand(360),0) i(myFireHydrantPoints) I have also tried calling the asset using the const operation, using comp (f) {all: HydrantTexture} and using a separate rule for texture, and manually editing the .obj and .mtl files. Any suggestions? I am still pretty new to CGA. Thanks, Tess

Hmm it doesn't look like the extent is limited as I would suspect from a imagery/DEM 'terrain' layer...otherwise I would assume is was a terrain layer. The extent of the texture appears continuous (much like the sky). To me, it seems like maybe a texture has been applied to the base grid or something. Just not sure how this can be done. Thanks for the input.

This seems simple, but I cannot figure out how to change the grid color/texture as in the Desert City example web scene (http://www.arcgis.com/apps/CEWebViewer/viewer.html?3dWebScene=d80ef4549f9a4ce4a4a4ab6a9a847035 ). What steps do I need to take to apply a texture to the grid in my scene (assuming this is what was done in the Desert City example...)? Thanks in advance, Tess

Absolutely. Thanks! version "2015.1" attr Fill_Color = "#FFF80" attr Outline_Color = "#000000" attr Transparency = 0.9 @StartRule AddOutline --> offset(-0.2) # thickness of your border. Negative value offsets inwards. comp( f ) {border: color(Outline_Color) MyBorder. | inside: Shape.} color(Fill_Color) set(material.opacity, Transparency) X.

That seems to do the trick. Thanks a ton! The fill color is just patchy.... It shows up the same way in the WebScene too.

Thank you so much for your help! I was able to get the outlines using: version "2015.1" attr Fill_Color = "#FFF80" attr Outline_Color = "#000000" attr Transparency = 0.9 @StartRule AddOutline --> offset(-0.5) # thickness of your border. Negative value offsets inwards. comp( f ) {border: color(Outline_Color) MyBorder. | inside: MyInside.} Shape --> set(material.opacity, Transparency) color(Fill_Color) X. Any ideas on how to get the fill color to show up? Thanks again, Tess

I am trying to color edges (border and interior) of a planar shape layer (see screenshot) in CE using CGA. Ultimately, it would be great if colors could be chosen for the background (faces?) color as well as the outlines (edges?). I have been looking into the comp(Operation) option to select out the edges and color them. If I use: set(material.opacity, Transparency) color (...) ...then I can change the color/transparency of the entire shape, but the individual shape outlines are not visible and do not have a distinct color when I export the models as .3ws. I would like to be able to designate colors for both the outline and shape in CE prior to the export. Any suggestions would be very helpful as I am new to CE/CGA. I have attached my current CGA code as well as a snip of the layer I am working with. Thanks! version "2015.1" attr Fill_Color = "#FFFFF" attr Outline_Color = "#000000" attr Transparency = 0.9 @StartRule Shape --> set(material.opacity, Transparency) comp(e) {all: color(Outline_Color) } comp(f) {all: color(Fill_Color) } X.
