Thanks for asking the right questions, Richard. I thought I knew what I was looking at, but apparently I didn't. Well, you know what they say about assumptions!

Oh ok, that's not so bad then. Calculate them out to separate columns then join them all back together into one column!

Why do you need the unique ID? Is it to match to another dataset that contains it? If not, you can just add a new unique ID field. The problem with using the street address is that sometimes you can get the same street address in a different zip code, for example.

That's probably your problem then. Is the mxd stored on the shared drive also? Try copying it locally and see if it opens quicker. Also, try actually waiting for 40 minutes or more. I have literally waited this long for an mxd to open over the network

Where is the data used in the map document kept? Perhaps it is stored in an external location that ArcMap can't find. I have found that when may data is in a server over the network that my maps can take over a half hour to load. Have you tried waiting to see if it actually opens?

Are you sure the projection and datum have been defined correctly for both layers? A common mistake is for people to attempt to change a projection using the define projection tool. This will project the original coordinates into the wrong place, instead of changing the coordinates to the new projection. How different are they. If it's less than a 100 feet or so, it's probable the wrong datum.

Ok, try it like this: # Loop through shapfiles in folder and reproject for fc in fcList: fcspatialRef = arcpy.Describe(fc).spatialReference.name if fcspatialRef != spatialRef: arcpy.Project_management(fc, outFolder + "\\" + fc, template) # Print shapefile Project results arcpy.AddMessage(fc) else: arcpy.CopyFeatures_management(fc, outFolder + "\\" + fc)

Ah ok. Did the script perform the project and/or copy features? Well, anyway it's hard to tell from your formatting, but I think the script should be formatted like this: for fc in fcList: fcspatialRef = arcpy.Describe(fc).spatialReference.name if fcspatialRef != spatialRef: arcpy.Project_management(fc, outFolder + "\\" + fc, template) else: arcpy.CopyFeatures_management(fc, outFolder + "\\" + fc) Notice the if/else statements are indented under the for statement, and the commands are indented under those.

I'm not sure what you mean by "geoprocessing dialog window". Do you mean the results window? What exactly do you see?

Sorry Chao, I replied on my phone last time, and I guess the link didn't get attached like I thought. Anyway, it sounds like you know how to convert the x/y values, no problem. If you're not concerned with preserving the actual locations of the points, then I would scale the y values by multiplying by some factor. In your case probably 1000.

IF your not familiar with the process, the following article will help. The last section at the bottom explains how to convert a table with z values. I'm Not sure what you would do for picking a coordinate system. Depending on your scale you could fake it in meters.

I Don't see why not. Arcgis happily accepts custom coordinates. Have you tried importing your data yet, and creating features with z values from your table? I'm curious to know the result.

You're welcome. It would be nice to mark one of our answers as correct though. That way, if someone is else has the same question they will know what actually helped.
