Actually, I would hazard a guess that it doesn't like MILE and is looking for MILES.

Hi Melvin, yes, this is possible. Basically, the steps are: Right-click the line layer in the table of contents and click Properties. Click the Symbology tab. Click Quantities and click Graduated colors. Double-click the top symbol in the list and set the start color for the ramp. Click OK. Double-click the bottom symbol and set the end color. Click OK. Optionally, double-click any middle symbol to set its color. This lets you create a multipart color ramp. Right-click a symbol and click Ramp Colors. Click OK.

The default is slope in degrees, so that is probably what you calculated.

Ok, you need to use the Project Raster tool (ArcGIS Desktop ), to reproject your raster into the exact same projection as the polyline.

Hmmm, if it has a spatial reference it should still have a linear unit, regardless of what the data represents, because it still has x and y values. See this screenshot for a DEM I have: What does your DEM say for spatial reference?

Well, I would advise moving the original and deleting this one. That way other people will know what's already been suggested, and you won't be chasing your tail.

Hi Cathina, to find the linear units of any layer, right click on it, select properties, and then select the source tab. Linear unit is different from angular unit, such as degrees. How exactly are you doing the conversion to feet? It's probably a good ide to get your DEM and polylines into the same projection before you run the analysis, by using either the Project or Project Raster tool. Be aware though, that you may never get a perfect match between the ground measurement, and your calculated one , due to the resolution and accuracy of your DEM.

Hi William, I had a similar problem, and it was indeed the pyramids. Maybe you could try rebuilding them? For what it's worth, this problem didn't affect any analysis, but was just visual. That's not helpful if you're needing them for display though.

Hey Darren, when you use Mosaic to New Raster, the resulting raster is not actually a mosaic dataset, but one single raster. It's a confusing name for the tool actually. I wish it was called something else, like Merge perhaps.
