Joyce, your geodatabase should be close to the root of your C drive, for example: C:\GIS_folder\test.gdb, and of course your shapefiles should all have the same projection. Spatial Join joins the data by the location--one feature overlaps a feature in the other class, for instance. Joins/relates joins data by a common field, such as a name or ID that is the same in each class. So, they are not really the same--it depends what relates your two tables. Will exporting as a PDF work? You can certainly scroll in that. Maybe you're looking to make a map package though. Hi Kon, you won't find the field you're looking for in the drop down of the dialog box, because you're using an inline variable, the model doesn't know in advance the exact feature class it is processing. You can just type the name of the field into the dialog. ... View more

Your data needs to be arranged, so that each province in the polygon features has values in four fields for your programming languages, just like in the table you have at the top. Are you talking about a Spatial Join, Joyce? The projection you use shouldn't slow things down, but as Dan says you do want everything in the same projection. Can you make a file geodatabase in ArcCatalog (right click in your folder, select new-->file geodatabase), then export all your shapefiles into the geodatabase (In ArcCatalog right click one of them, select export-->to geodatabase (multiple), and then add all your shapefiles into the dialog). ... Russel, each shape aligns with the coordinate system through pairs of coordinates for each vertices that match up with the coordinates in the coordinate system. If you look at that link Curtis posted, and scroll down to polygon geometries, for example, you can see illustrations of the vertices, their coordinates, and how that geometry code looks.
