Hi, We are making progress with an install of ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3 on a fresh Windows Server VM. So far Portal, Portal WA, and Server are installed. I have a quick question – I just looked at the services running and I found this: I know “Automatic-Delayed” is the preferred “start type” for earlier versions of ArcGIS Server 10.x. Is that still the case for ArcGIS Server 11.3? And should the Portal for ArcGIS service also be set to “Automatic-Delayed”? Thanks, Bernie.

Hello, I work for government and I will need to use an RFP to purchase monitoring software for ArcGIS Enterprise. It is a requirement of our Purchasing Act that I must follow. We do have an enterprise license agreement (ELA) for Esri software but ArcGIS Monitor is not included in our ELA. Has anyone written a vendor neutral description of monitoring software for ArcGIS Enterprise? If yes, can you share a copy with me? Thanks, Bernie.

Hello, We are running a site with 3 ArcGIS Servers (10.7.1) sharing the load for our map services on VMs running Windows Server 2016. We do not use Portal. Each evening we reboot one of the three servers to maintain good performance. However, on a few occassions the ArcGIS Server service did not restart. The 'startup' mode is correctly set to 'Automatic(Delayed)'. The server was marked as "unhealthy" by the web adaptors and all traffic was re-routed to the remaining servers. This lead to overloaded servers and additional problems. Every service running under Windows Server has 'Recovery' options that can be configured to attempt to restart a service that fails to start. Have you experimented with the 'Recovery' options for the ArcGIS Server service? Has it helped? What settings did you use? Thanks, Bernie.

@HenokA Did you see an improvement after setting the "Recovery" options on the ArcGIS Server service? Thanks, Bernie.

If you are seeing slight distortions it could be a reprojection of your data. What is the map projection of your shapefiles? If it is not web mercator your shape files are likely being reprojected to match the map projection of your basemap. The AGOL basemaps use the web mercator projection. Bernie.

@DavidHorsey If you look at the coordinates the first point and the last point are the same. When a polygon is represented in JSON it is called a "ring". It's not a ring or closed polygon unless the first point and the last point are the same. If the fifth point were ommitted from the JSON it would be just a line with a start point, 2 vertices and an end point. Cheers, Bernie.

They are VM's. Very easy to delete and create. A fresh new VM will always be cleaner than a VM with an upgraded OS.

The exisitng "arcgis_DEV" account is in Active Directory, it's not a local account. However, it is not a Group managed service account (gMSA). I am being encouraged by my IT department to create a new gMSA account for the ArcGIS Server account. However, this will incur a delay for the account request and creation. Any thoughts on using a gMSA account?

No, that's not an option. The old VMs were created in 2016 and are using Windows Server 2012 and must be replaced. A fresh install on a fresh VM is required.

I did not know the use of webgisdr would have an impact on the account I chose to use as the ArcGIS Server account. No, we won't be using webgisdr. webgisdr is a data backup / recovery tool and can only restore to the same platform version. It cannot be used to migrate data from an older version to my new 11.3 Portal. But we are lucky, there is so little content in the 10.8.1 Portal that it can be easily re-created in a day or two in the new 11.3 Portal.

Hello, I have been an ArcGIS Server admin for many years but rarely had to be hands-on with an install of ArcGIS Enterprise. I am just about to start an install of 11.3 on a new Windows VM (Windows Server 2022 Standard). This will be our new DEV environment. The current DEV environment is 10.8.1. It is running on another VM and already has an ArcGIS Server account. Lets call this account "arcgis_DEV". Can I re-use the "arcgis_DEV" account for the ArcGIS Server account on my new 11.3 DEV environment? My intuition says "yes" but I would like confirmation. Thanks, Bernie.

@MichaelVolz if the feature service is not used for add, delete or update, enabling "feature access" should work for a read-only feature service with a FGDB. I have not tested this.

It would be great if we could use a simple FGDB as the data source for a read-only featrue service. This would be helpful with data published for dashboards. Dashboards require a feature service to permit the dashboard elements to update automatically as the data source is updated. But feature services require an enterprise geodatabase. Many of the data sets I want to display in a dashboard do not require a multi-user editing environment. I don't need an enterprise geodatabase. But to publish a feature service, an eGDB is required. I have tried using a map service with a FGDB in a dashboard but the dashboard will not update unless the user refreshes the browser or, in some cases, I have to open the dashboard in an Incognito tab to see the dashboard elements update with new data. If my feature service will never be used to add, delete, or update features, why do I need a eGDB? Please make it possible to create a read-only feature service from a FGDB.
