Nobody else commented on ArcGIS Monitor being installed on all 3 servers. Isn't that overkill? I suspect Monitor can be installed on just one server and still collect stats on all of the servers. We are not using Monitor. Bernie.

@ThomasHoman According to this blog there was a raster function for contours at 10.2.1 https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-desktop/mapping/generate-contours-dynamically-with-a-new-raster-function/ Do you think Esri removed it so we would have to use an extension? Bernie.

@ThomasHoman Thanks for the tips. But I was also wondering about a raster function that could be executed by the image server to create contours as a raster image. Any advice on this topic. Our Image Server is running version 10.7.1. Is there a raster function built-in for generating contours at version 10.7.1 or does it need to be configured? Bernie.

Hello, We are publishing a bare earth DEM with a 1 metre pixel as an image service. Currently running ArcGIS Server 10.7.1. I want to automate the process to assist my users in creating contours from the DEM image service. The process would begin with the user selecting a polygon from our parcel map service and end with the user downloading a vector data set of contour lines with an extent that matches the parcel's bounding box. We have already done something similar to allow our users to grab a small patch of the DEM raster that matches the bounding box of a parcel. We did that with a bit of Arcade to build a URL for the image service that exported a small patch of the DEM raster. The Arcade script lives in a pop-up window in an AGOL web map. Any suggestions? Thanks @ChrisUnderwood. That makes perfect sense. Do you have any input on why the "start type" has changed between 10.x and 11.x? A very experienced ArcGIS Enterprise admin suggested: At 11.x the "ArcGIS Server" service and the "Portal for ArcGIS" service are both really slow to start. There is no need for "Automatic-Delayed". Hi, We are making progress with an install of ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3 on a fresh Windows Server VM. So far Portal, Portal WA, and Server are installed. I have a quick question – I just looked at the services running and I found this: I know “Automatic-Delayed” is the preferred “start type” for earlier versions of ArcGIS Server 10.x. Is that still the case for ArcGIS Server 11.3? And should the Portal for ArcGIS service also be set to “Automatic-Delayed”? Thanks, Bernie.

Hello, I work for government and I will need to use an RFP to purchase monitoring software for ArcGIS Enterprise. It is a requirement of our Purchasing Act that I must follow. We do have an enterprise license agreement (ELA) for Esri software but ArcGIS Monitor is not included in our ELA. Has anyone written a vendor neutral description of monitoring software for ArcGIS Enterprise? If yes, can you share a copy with me? Thanks, Bernie.

Hello, We are running a site with 3 ArcGIS Servers (10.7.1) sharing the load for our map services on VMs running Windows Server 2016. We do not use Portal. Each evening we reboot one of the three servers to maintain good performance. However, on a few occassions the ArcGIS Server service did not restart. The 'startup' mode is correctly set to 'Automatic(Delayed)'. The server was marked as "unhealthy" by the web adaptors and all traffic was re-routed to the remaining servers. This lead to overloaded servers and additional problems. Every service running under Windows Server has 'Recovery' options that can be configured to attempt to restart a service that fails to start. Have you experimented with the 'Recovery' options for the ArcGIS Server service? Has it helped? What settings did you use? Thanks, Bernie.

If you are seeing slight distortions it could be a reprojection of your data. What is the map projection of your shapefiles? If it is not web mercator your shape files are likely being reprojected to match the map projection of your basemap. The AGOL basemaps use the web mercator projection. Bernie.

@DavidHorsey If you look at the coordinates the first point and the last point are the same. When a polygon is represented in JSON it is called a "ring". It's not a ring or closed polygon unless the first point and the last point are the same. If the fifth point were ommitted from the JSON it would be just a line with a start point, 2 vertices and an end point. Cheers, Bernie.

They are VM's. Very easy to delete and create. A fresh new VM will always be cleaner than a VM with an upgraded OS.

The exisitng "arcgis_DEV" account is in Active Directory, it's not a local account. However, it is not a Group managed service account (gMSA). I am being encouraged by my IT department to create a new gMSA account for the ArcGIS Server account. However, this will incur a delay for the account request and creation. Any thoughts on using a gMSA account?
