I encountered this error trying to open the attribute table to an SDE feature class. I determined that the problem arose because I had applied a table join to the feature class, and the join table was contained within an file geodatabase with a numeric name (i.e. "49.gdb"). The attribute table for the feature class from the file geodatabase had opened just fine on its own, but after I had joined it to the SDE feature class, I could no longer open the SDE attribute table. In order to resolve, I had to "remove all" joins and "remove all" relates to reset the fields.

I am also interested in this. Using an SDE domain, is there a way to allow the user to choose blank/empty string from the domain pick-list instead of choosing null? I want the actual data/value stored to be an empty string....not null. Example: when a road name has a pre-directional (north, east, south, or west) the user would choose the appropriate value from the domain ("N", "E", "S", "W"), but for road names that do not have a pre-directional at all, the user would choose a blank/empty string 'value').

I'm using ModelBuilder in ArcGIS Desktop 10.5.1. I have a simple model that clips and exports three feature classes, each to their own file geodatabase (law, fire, and ems). The model branches for the fire and ems feature classes both end by using the "Alter Field" to change the name of the field. The law feature class does not require this field name change. The model executes without any errors, warnings, or other messages. But, when I look at the two geodatabases for fire and ems, they appear to be empty (in ArcCatalog). The strange thing is, if I browse into the geodatabases in Windows Explorer, I can see all the of the system tables and I can confirm that they contain the feature classes (by name) that the model created. To pinpoint the issue, I re-ran the same model, but without the last step (Alter Field), and the feature class appears in the geodatabase as-expected. Below is a clip of a branch of the model: Below is a clip of the two geodatabases appearing to be empty, even after numerous refreshes within ArcCatalog (I even tried closing an re-launching all ArcGIS sessions): And below is a view of the apparently empty geodatabases viewed through Windows Explorer, and a system table open in Notepad showing the feature class name highlighted (emsFC):

Yes, please! I think others have also mentioned that it would be super helpful to be able to simply point to the date the hosted feature layer was last updated:

I have the same problem. I create a hosted feature layer depicting lakes, it 'analyzes' just fine in Pro, publishes, creates the feature service in ArcGIS Online, but when added to a web map, it doesn't draw and can't load the attributes. Also: why is Derek Law's earliest answer marked as the "Correct Answer"....it doesn't address the issue?

I work for local government (county) and I'm looking for a web service that I can consume that shows real estate properties that are currently listed for sale. I am aware of the "MLS", but from what I've read it does not appear to be a very 'open' resource and requires some complex levels of vetting/licensing as a real estate broker to gain access. Is there something I'm missing? I know that I have seen some local government served web maps that integrate a 'layer' showing listed real estate properties, but I'm not sure what their data source was. Is there someone in the real estate industry that has a lead on a data service, or open API that can be leveraged in ArcGIS?

As a side-note, I think there is some weird vocabulary/terminology confusion going on with these tools, that could be cleaned-up. The "Attribute Transfer tool" is found within the "Spatial Adjustment" toolset, even though it it's primary purpose is to transfer attribute data - not spatial. Within the "Attributes" window, the "Copy/Paste Attributes" functions can change the geometry.

Hmmmm.....Michael Volz ...you've uncovered my issue: I have used the Attribute Transfer tool in the past. When I opened the tool and looked at how it was last set up (Attribute Transfer Mapping...), the box was checked for "Transfer Geometry". The 'buggy' part of all of this, in my opinion, is that the Copy/Paste Attributes function within the Attributes window honors this checkbox that's buried in the Spatial Adjustment toolset.

(ArcGIS 10.5.1, Windows 10 64-bit machine) In the course of my daily data maintenance workflows, there are two feature classes that I frequently have to copy & paste attributes between (it's an address point layer and a driveway access layer - I'm copying a unique ID and address attribute information from the address point layer and into the driveway access layer). More precisely, my steps are: Use the Create Features window to drop a brand new driveway access point at the start of the driveway. Select both the pertinent address point (which is placed on the house's rooftop) and the new driveway access point. In the Attributes window, highlight the address point feature, right-click it, and choose Copy Attributes. In the same window highlight the driveway access point and choose Paste Attributes. ^ This is the moment when the driveway access point is spatially moved to the location of the address point. Is there a known cause for this? I cannot think of what I've changed in my environment to cause this behavior to suddenly begin....it does happen every single time, but it never used to.

This same thing happened to me today. Twice I tried running the Feature Class to Geodatabase tool in ArcCatalog (10.5.1). The Windows pop-up stated that the process had run, but there was no output and, upon digging into the Geoprocessing Results window, no messages from the tool at all (completely blank: no tool start time, end time, parameters, etc.) Indeed, disabling background geoprocessing resolved the issue (Geoprocessing> Geoprocessing Options > uncheck the "Enable" under Background Geoprocessing). I'd still consider this a bug behaviorally, since the software apparently doesn't realize that it's not working.

Click the Add Data button Browse to your Excel spreadsheet Double-click the Excel file and then click on the specific worksheet you want (i.e. Sheet1$) Click "OK" Your worksheet will be added to ArcGIS as a table (right-click context menu to open the table). Note: the data in your spreadsheet is not very well-formatted for use in ArcGIS because it essentially contains several mini-tables with different content on a single worksheet, as well as Excel graphics. It may not be very useful in ArcMap without some scrubbing and reformatting.

Jeff Davis, if you suspect errant locks may have something to do with it, try compacting the geodatabase to ensure those are all cleared up. Also, confirm that your new field name is valid for ArcGIS: Field names in the same table must be unique. Field names must also start with a letter and not contain spaces or reserved words. Field names are limited to 64 characters for both file and personal geodatabases, 31 characters in SQL Server and SQLExpress, 30 characters in Oracle and DB2; dBASE is limited to 10 characters.
