@ShareUser @JesseCloutier Thanks for the very hellpful heads up. As I was stumbling through some of the older posts, it is sad that they may disappear, but this platform has been great, and what's coming will certainly be a powerful edition for this community's lives.

Closing the gaps between science and policy, and policy with results - Has anyone ever faced this question? How do we make sure every country is able to take advantage of solutions that might otherwise be scaled up? I was so inspired by ESRI USER CONFERENCE 2026!!!! Can we agree not to leave our science be sitting on shelves (gathering dust), when it might be scaled up in other locations be improve lives and make a better world? How do you think GIS can be better used to improve successful outcomes? I encourage readers to listen to a United Nations High Level Political Forum (HLPF) that took place in New York at the United Nations HQ about the same time as UC2026 was taking place on the west coast in San Diego. Science Day 2026 It was a day for discussing progress with an open, honest conversation. Only 1 country in 3 of the 192+ countries participating in the 15 Sustainable Development Goals (2015-2030) are likely to achieve all 17 goals. My question here is how can higher education (colleges and universities found in every country around the globe) best use evidence-based knowledge to help their countries achieve the best possible outcomes by 2030?

Since making my first post to @JeffreyThompson2 post, I listened to SCIENCE DAY 2026 (a side event organized at the HLPF on Sustainable Development which took place on 9 July 2026). It was a day for discussing progress with an open, honest conversation. Imagine never having so many educated people pushing the SDG agenda. BUT is it delivering the results needed? How can we be effective partners? https://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k16/k16kkwn9td?utm_source=SDSN&utm_campaign=5d0f77c792-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2024_10_15_08_16_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_-8ff67450e0-179322688&mc_cid=5d0f77c792&mc_eid=ac585669f8 Open collaborations on a shared network of GIS ideas. I believe we can STRENGTHEN our network, and together ensure not the absence of knowledge, but also being able to connect the links between science and policy domains.... The 15 year SDG Challenges will end in 2030, and there is time left for all nations to find solutions needed to achieve the best possible outcomes against all 17 sustainable development goals. (ALTHOUGH only 1 in 3 of the world's nations are on track to achieve all 17 SDGs.)

I was interested in how many GIS pros are planning to register and attend the WATER For People and Progress event in Stockholm, Sweden? More information can be found on the World Water Week website https://worldwaterweek.org/2026/tickets?_sc=MjI5Nzc1MSMxNzMxNA%3D%3D Why is it important? The Week will work towards a more just and equitable water secure future for all people, especially the most marginalized, against the backdrop of climate change. and GIS participation may be key to successful outcomes.

Thank you Adam and everyone who has contributed to this ESRI Community post. Royce your lengthy response is particularly noteworthy to me. Very helpful string as it guides us through the changing times. Rural development is one of my focuses these days as I work to link academia-private and public sector collaborations, with specific emphasis on public higher education and students acquiring and honing GIS skill sets. @EzraCheruiyot

Having been an American Red Cross Disaster Services volunteer since I was very young, and having participated in a joint US-Mexico-Canada International Disaster Delegate training in 1980, I can assure you that your GIS work really helps to understand the seriousness of the disaster which caused so much damage and suffering. It is great that you are able to share on this platform such in depth description and analysis.

@Juan_CarlosTarazona Thank you for this initial work, which highlights why it is critical to get the funding flowing to best respond to the humanitarian needs being experienced in Venezuela. I would like to urge you to continue to follow up describing how conditions might be improving as time goes by. Let us know how we might be able to support your good works.

great bilingual article - I read in Spanish first as my daughter and one of her sons are in Costa Rica at the moment. He is starting high school and very committed to studying our environment. I was surprised how much he knows about frogs.... I urge readers to follow this link https://www.cengageschool.com/solutions/social-studies?utm_medium=partner&utm_source=ngs&utm_campaign=fy27_k12_mapmaker_support_hub_socialstudies&utm_audience=school&utm_cta=learnmore&utm_adtype=landingpage. clicking on the following VIEW SOCIAL STUDIES catalog. WE MUST ALL COMMIT to actions that will improve our environment; we can do something about the social ills caused by too much greed and lack of commitment to passing on a world better than we found.
