Hi Dave, The process is exponentially slower because its making exponentially more data at higher levels. Quick question, Are you using the "Manage Map Server Cache Tiles" tool? If you have 8 cores , what are you setting for the "num_of_caching_service_instances" parameter? Do you think altering this might help some?

It's the copyright text from the Citation layer - Layer: Citations (ID: 0) This populates the credits in the layers metadata.

It's a good question, I assume now it is ArcGIS Pro you are working in. I'm seeing this with layouts the have basemaps too, the citation string is long, and its consistent . It's interesting, Im looking at the World Topo Basemap in ArcGIS online and the credits here do a cool thing and actually update when you zoom and pan around. https://arcg.is/48Hfr As for ArcGIS Pro it looks to only be pulling the copyright text from the Citation layer in the service only, nothing Dynamic. It might be a great Idea to post with the Ideas to Have ArcGIS Pro handle basemap citation like ArcGIS online does.

Hi Matt, I know a few things, I'm not a Server expert, hopefully if someone else reads this they can advise better than me about ArcGIS Server and its public data security. Using ArcGIS Server we do have additional controls for instance, we can disable your REST directory, this would keep visitors from resolving the REST directory in a browser, however ArcMap users with a connection will still have the ability to read and process any layers they have access to. You can also disable exports in both ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS online, this disables the REST options to export, but still ArcGIS desktop could still read copy what it it sees. Example from Sample Server 6 has no REST option to extract, but can be copied in Desktop. - Layer: Damage to Commercial Buildings (ID: 0) As an alternative if you wanted to make it harder for copy you could disable the feature access, and publish a Cached Map service or hosted tile layer. I hope this helps identify some of the usage angles, It still all comes back to our willingness to share publicly everything in the data we share. -Adam

Hi Matt, I understand the concern that every public layer is exposed and easy to browse if a connection to ArcMap is made, but this fact is also true for anyone with a web browser who visits the rest endpoint. Its kinda like hanging your laundry in the front yard, everyone can take a look if they want to. So, ya, public facing layers are shared with everyone including anonymous users. it's by design Its important to ask ourselves "Am I willing to share this with Everyone?" For any items that we are not willing to share; we set sharing to Organization, groups or Private. This will hide them from the public, and only the desired people with a Username and Password can view/use them. I would also be careful with Public content that is enabled for Editing. because it is also publicly editable. For items like this, we can make a Public Hosted feature layer view that is disabled for editing, then disable the sharing on the original editable Hosted Feature Layer, this is a way the public can see the data, but won't be able to edit it. Hope this helps -Adam

I don't think I fully understand the question A) You have several cached image services. I assume this is cached maps service coming from ArcGIS online and/or ArcGIS Server. Services like our Imagery basemaps. - World_Street_Map (MapServer) <Sample Server 6 cached mapservice - World_Imagery (MapServer) <- AGOL cached basemap map service B) I'm not sure what it means Dynamic Service, do you have a example? C) Yes, ArcGIS online does not provide Gropings of layers in the Map viewer currently, But this Idea is In the Product Plan for the future. - Group layers for ArcGIS online Note ArcGIS server services do maintain their groupings in ArcGIS online - Water_Network_Base_Map (MapServer) <- Sample Server 6 D) If your not using a Cached Service for them what type of service would be utilized? For B and D I'm thinking you mean Feature services, but I wanted to be sure. Cheers - Adam

Think whoever access your application will need to have access to all the items in the application. So, all the content that participates in a App needs to have the same level of sharing. For example: App (public) -> Map ( private ) -> Layer (Group) This Example will have issues, the Map and Layer will need to also be made available publicly. App (group) -> Map ( public ) -> layer (group) This Example will be Ok, The Map is public so it exceeds the level of sharing necessary for the app user to access.

Cascade is one of the more App centric designs, so it might be more difficult to recreate from scratch. Outside of getting your account "Adopted" by an organization so you can share as a organizational member, there is not much I can say to do. You might have heard of Using ArcGIS Online Assistant. This tool is not officially supported, and can cause damage to your content especially if you are like me, and you're not careful and don't fully understand how ArcGIS online works inside and out. That said, it has a option to "Copy" content from one account to another, this means any reference your App has will also be copied, so some links to maps and stuff like that may be broken. I would be interested to see if another user in the form has had your same experience, and can share additional insight.

Thanks Adam, Can I also add, If your using ArcGIS online and have published data that has global ID containing {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} your data will be damaged if it is edited in ArcGIS Pro. We have a bug logged in support for this issue, BUG-000119312 - Editing a single feature from a hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Pro edits all the features instead when a GolbalID is duplicated. - Adam E

Hi Melissa, Please! DO NOT EDIT! your service data In ArcGIS Pro if you have a global ID containing {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} your data will be damaged. We have a bug logged in support for this issue, BUG-000119312 - Editing a single feature from a hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Pro edits all the features instead when a GolbalID is duplicated. - Pro edits the feature based on the globalID Your Global ID data should never contain multiple {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} values, If you are running into this or can explain how the data got this way, I would strongly urge you to Contact Esri Technical Support and let us know whats going on. Regards - Adam Esri Support Services
