Listed below are some troubleshooting steps to consider when a desired web map is not appearing in Collector for ArcGIS, the following will be necessary to make maps available: 1) A minimum of one Editable feature service layer. 2) A map containing this layer. 3) Ownership or group access to the above Editable Layer Item. 4) Ownership or group access to the above Map Item. 5) Adequate sharing access for any remaining layers in the Map.

Hi Treaser, Getting credentials means something in the app has some security on it, or that its not shared. Keep a eye out for the following as they may be contributing to the behaviour. 1) The map layers that are not shared. - Start with your WebMap, view the Item Details, You will see the Layer list, where you can inspect each layer individually (Right-Click Open In new Tab) to verify how it is shared. it should be public (Everyone) to not have a prompt to sign in. - Resharing apps in ArcGIS online should also prompt sharing options for associated maps and layers aswell. 2) Premium and subscriber content in the App or Map, - Some layers are designated as Subscriber ( needing a Organization to view), or Premium ( Requires Credits to View) These types of items need special configuration to be shared. - Some Functionality like routing is also considered subscriber/premium content, you will want to refer to the documentation of your App or Widget to see how to configure this. (Web AppBuilder Documentation as example here) 3) Anonymous Access setting on your Organization. - This setting allows the public to visit your ArcGIS online webpage, Meaning they can access - Short Name URL = <ShortName>.maps.arcgis.com. - Without this setting users can get prompted to sign in when resolving Item links containing the Short Name URL. In this situation I would recommend remove the Short Name URL part of the item URL before sharing the link. I.e. I would use this: https://arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=32b15ee7160c4a42904ff69e96bed46f Instead of this: https://ess.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=32b15ee7160c4a42904ff69e96bed46f I hope this general detail helps! -Adam

Miguel, Thanks for the detailed description. I want to start by saying: The most secure thing we can do with data is not share it at all. If we do decide to share it, whoever has access to it will absolutely have access to what was shared, and may even have clever ways to copy that information that are out of our control. When sharing different service types each shares different aspects of the data. but note no Method here is completely secure and free from being copied. In my opinion, The Cached map/tile Service is probably the method that is the hardest to copy, the Vector tiles is a little less secure, and feature service being the least. Here is a breakdown I hope helps: Cached Map Service/ Hosted Tile Service - Shares a mosaic of Images that represent your data. This can hide your true attributes and geometry but will provide location of objects in the images. Hosted Vector tile layer - Sharing Vector tiles will share the geometry, and/or attributes. Each tiles will be encoded with the vector information, this encoding includes the geometry and may or may not include attributes of your features, you can control if fields are shared by Highlighting them in the Fields view prior to sharing the data in ArcGIS Pro. Feature Service/Hosted Feature Layers: - Sharing the Feature will share access the records, attributes, and geometry in the data, including editing access if that is enabled. My hope with the information here will provide an idea of the capabilities of the software, and how each methodology differs. Ultimately, if we are not willing to share any part of the data, don't share it. Hope this helps - Adam

Hi Paul, You aren't doing anything wrong, Popups on Vector tile are not supported in the ArcGIS online map viewer yet. It will be coming soon, Here are some discussions regarding this support: - Vector Tile Popups - Can you have attributes display for Vector Tiles? As the ArcGIS Pro documentation suggests under Retain Relevant Attribution "To bring specific fields into the vector tiles, highlight them in the Fields view of the layer. Highlighting the ObjectID field adds feature-level identity to the vector tiles and allows for pop-ups to be viewed from the tiles themselves" We have a recent enhancement that has asked for the Pro Documentation to note the online support until its functionality arrives. That record is ENH-000119818. Please feel free to contact support to have your account attached to the record. Hope this helps -Adam

Miguel, A no on tile layers? I'm curious why; Is that because of the need for popups and attributes, or because its too many tiles to represent the data at the zoomed in scales? Considering a Line feature layer representing powerlines would need many raster tiles to represent all that distance, this is alot of blank or empty tiles. A Vector Tile layer on the other hand would be far more efficient because it can Index the tiles based on feature complexity. To add to this, vector tiles will clip, simplify and segmented the original data into tiles, so a service is extremely difficult to copy and then reconstruct if using ArcGIS Pro, and you couldn't even read them in ArcMap as they are not supported in the older software. As for popups, Vector Tiles currently support Pop Ups in ArcGIS Pro, and will soon be able to do the same in ArcGIS Online.

Hey Robert, You have presented several concerns that need to be addressed, If I may, I'll try to break it down and give some advice on what to do for each. 1) Credits Disappearing fast, Understanding Credits, and Geocoding. The Credits in ArcGIS online are used for Storage of data, Online Geoprocessing, or using Premium Demographic layers. They are essentially your access to spin up and utilize the online Services we provide. The Credits allow you time on the Servers not necessarily results in the processing. This Documentation page covers everything about credits, and what processes will use them. As credits are fundamental to experience of ArcGIS online I recommend a thorough understanding from top to bottom, If you have any specific questions or need clarification please let me know. Understand credits—ArcGIS Online Help | ArcGIS One of the Geoprocessing operations includes Geocoding, Its happens when Tabular data with Addresses are geolocated into Features. It's likely you used your credits 40 credits per 1000 records with this functionality when performing the matches. 500 credits could get used pretty quick by Bringing in a 1000 record CSV multiple times. Note, having a Latitude and a Longitude fields in your data instead of an address will allow you to create Features without the use of geocoding or using any service credits. 2) Hosting Full Datasets. - The Results of your Geocoding is either Publish A hosted Feature layer, or a Feature collection in the map. - If you have a Feature Layer (Hosted) you will see it also in your content, this data type is very robust and can store hundreds of thousands of records. - If your result was a Feature Collection, It's only saved in the map item, A Json list on the backside. it has limitations to how many features it holds. 3) Searching functions - The default Search function in a webmap uses the Geocoder. (Same Geocoding described above, but note single line inputs here never use any credits) - To search against your data, You will want to organize your data into as few layers as possible. Put them in a Web Map, then Create a Application with either Web AppBuilder or Configurable template. The applications have additional options to use your feature layers as a Search source. For example see Step 4 in this doc on the Web AppBuilder Search Widget. 4) Getting Error when attempting to match data. - Please Feel free to reach out to our support team, This way you can share some of the data, your end goal, and how your going about it , and we can work with you to overcome this error and get you to where you need to be. Feel free to mention my name and this thread and I'm glad to help out on your case too. Regards - Adam E

Hi Miguel, If we share the service with Feature access, i.e. access to the table, i.e Feature Service, i.e Hosted Feature layers or views; regardless of Export/Extract capability on the service or not, Someone accessing the Data in ArcGIS Desktop can copy the data all they want. Note the capabilities like Editing, Export/Extract only dictate what the Service can do. It does not affect clients reading and then copying the data there after. (Desktop clients are very powerful tool in this regard) This said, I would want to consider the primary usage of Feature Services. It is to Query attributes, and Editing the data from the service. They are tailored to workflows in this area and not necessary for just viewing a map. To bring the layers to member of an organization without compromising the tabular data, we can use a layer without feature access, such as a hosted Tile Layer, or cached Map service. Only the image of the map is then shared, none of the Tabular data. I hope this helps -Adam

Hey Jeff, Just to be sure Im understanding. You have two apps ArcGIS online App1 and App2, Keep the URL for App 1 But have it open App 2 as it is your replacement. Firstly, I think your Hack is really smart, and it makes it obvious you have a new and improved application out and think users would appreciate that foresight to redirect us to the latest and greatest. To continue the discussion, You can actually redirect an Items URL in a Web Appbuilder application. But note its not the same as the actual application URL, Item URL - https://arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=89a5515ae38947698f2bc5b816d01f4d App URL - https://arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=89a5515ae38947698f2bc5b816d01f4d If you wanted to redirect the Item, you can, see the documented for URL, Ya, It's a bit vague, so be very careful doing this, I strongly suggest running the following test before applying it to any production applications. 1) In ArcGIS online, create a new Web AppBuilder application named Version1 - Note the URL for the Item and its ID 2) Create another New Web AppBuilder application named Version2 - Note the URL for the Item and its ID 3) Open The Item Details for Version 1, Visit the Settings 4) Scroll down and look for Data Source. Note the App URL. Also note this can be updated with a different link 5) Update the Version 1 App URL with the Version 2 App URL, and Save. When you use Item, this will Open Version 2 instead of version 1, but note the Version 1 App Url will remain unaffected. Honestly you hack is best thing i've seen. I've also not seen any Ideas posted asking for the ability to update an ArcGIS online Item with replacement item, It might also be worth while to post this to Ideas. Hope this helps. - Adam

Hey Dave, A slow roll up a steady incline will hopefully get the job done eventually compared to running into a cliff at full speed. Are the server logs saying about the caching service? anything useful appearing there? Cheers, -Adam
