My idea is to have a button to give the user the choice of whether Pro should automatically regenerate "Label" for symbol classes when using graduated colors or other symbology with classes. Currently, at least in Pro 3.0.3, the lack of this ability causes me to do extra work - Pro automatically rewrites the "Label" text whenever I change an "upper value" or anything, and Pro gets rid of the formatting I had previously manually typed for the labels, like the percent symbol and one or no decimal places. Pro adds in 6 decimal places. So I have to manually delete all those and manually enter in the other formatting I want, like the percent sign. I've had to retype all this many times, as I think I'm done with deciding on the breaks/intervals for the classes but later decide to tweak them. I have this symbology, representing a percentage - this is what it should look like in the legend: Here is what it looks like after I have typed the Label just how I want, in the symbology configuration pane: I realized the 19.2 Upper Value (which was inherited from another feature class whose symbology I imported for this feature class) meant that a couple features with higher values than this were not being symbolized on the map. When I changed the highest upper value from 19.2 to 100, all the labels regenerated to this: Dang. My idea is that Pro doesn't need to eliminate this capability to automatically regenerate the labels. Just have a button or checkbox, right there in the symbology pane, that would give me the choice to opt out. Thanks for reading!

Thank you, @SSWoodward . Oh yeah, I had forgotten about .lyrx. I probably want a more permanent/ingrained solution for my current case, but that's a helpful reminder. Thank you, Allen

My idea is for ArcGIS Pro to display a warning message when the user opens Fields view either via a layer in the layer list or via the catalog. The message would say something to the effect that field configurations for a layer and field configurations for a feature class (like in Catalog) are unrelated. Maybe use wording like what is used in documentation on this page: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/data/geodatabases/overview/create-modify-and-delete-fields.htm Here is a screenshot of the part I'm referring to: I have been using Pro for a long time, but I only learned this just today, the hard way. I put a lot of time into configuring aliases and data types (e.g. I specified that a numeric field should be percentage with only one decimal place) for a layer. I need to use this data in a different file geodatabase and aprx (for this project, I have sort of "dev" and "prod" aprx's and file geodatabases). It was only after I had copied the feature class to the new geodatabase and tried to configure symbology in the new map that I discovered that none of my field configurations were there. I did a lot of troubleshooting to try to figure out what happened. I did online research and eventually found the above documentation. So I guess I have to do all that work over again. That's super frustrating. I feel like the part that I shared a screenshot of, above, should be way higher up on that documentation page! It's almost near the bottom. How is anyone going to know about it? I really wish that field configurations/aliases were not disconnected between a layer and the source feature class. I have no use for this scenario, myself, and I feel honestly sad that if I were to do further tidying-up of fields in a feature class (source data) in the future, the changes would not carry through to a map I'm already using the layer in. Anyway, if this functionality stays in Pro, it would be EXTREMELY helpful to make it more apparent to users. Thanks for reading.

I am running into this situation in Pro 3.0.3. Super confusing. It would seem that you can configure fields, via the layer list, separately from the source feature class in a file geodatabase. I have been using Pro for a long time but didn't know that this happens. I need the source data to have my field configurations, so now I have to re-do a lot of work. I am really unhappy with this. It would help if Esri displayed a message when you go to configure fields via the layer list, saying that these configurations will not be made to the source data. Very frustrating.

Hi, thanks for letting me know! I'm very glad to hear that it was useful for you! 😊 FYI, I later discovered that for some feature classes that had "no" metadata in the spreadsheet that my code wrote, they actually had very old metadata that had not been edited since an extremely old version of ArcMap or something and so the metadata was not even compatible/recognizable by ArcGIS Pro. Some of these feature classes I could upgrade the metadata using the upgrade button in the Pro metadata editor. But some of them I was not able to do that and had to copy and paste metadata from the metadata editor in ArcCatalog. Basically, some feature classes with no metadata in Pro might have super old metadata that's only accessible in ArcMap/ArcCatalog.

Thanks for your post! I was able to use a workaround to see a non-hosted table in the new map viewer - I added an item in Portal and used the map service's URL, such that this item consisted only of the table, not the full map service with both the layer and the table. That is, I used the URL that included the layer ID for only the table, e.g. ....MapServer/1 Then I brought this "item" into my web map in new map viewer, and I could see the table. This means that my web map includes both the whole service a.k.a. web layer as well as just the table from that same service, so it's kind of referencing the same service twice. This workaround is not ideal, so I still hope to hear from Esri on this subject.

I shared a feature class and a file geodatabase table to my Enterprise Portal as a web layer. I need to have both the feature class and the table in a web map. When I make a map with the new Map Viewer, the table is nowhere to be found. But when I use Map Viewer Classic, the table is in the map, just like I need. But I need to use the new Map Viewer because Map Viewer Classic is of course obsolete. I did confirm that both the feature class and the standalone table are listed in the map service's REST endpoint. There's no editing involved - no versioning, no feature service, etc. I am the owner of the web layer / service. And I am working on the web maps as myself, the same account that is the owner. I'm using ArcGIS Pro 3.0.3 Enterprise 10.9.1 build 28388 My organization cannot upgrade to Enterprise 11 yet. In fact, the work I am trying to do with this web layer is part of our work to get all our map services running from Pro, as part of our preparation for upgrading. So I have to get this work done before we can upgrade. I did see something on Esri Community from 2 years ago about related tables not showing up in the new map viewer, like Esri hadn't built this functionality yet. I don't know if this is related. A crazy thing is that on another Enterprise Portal we have (the Dev one), an essentially identical web layer with a table DOES show up in the new map viewer. That Portal has the exact same version and build as the one I'm having the problem with (which is our Production portal), and the services have the same settings. I don't see how the new map viewer could be acting differently in the two Portals, but it is. Does anyone know how to get the table to show up in Map Viewer? Is it a bug?

Hello, Does your sde connection use stored credentials or operating system authentication? If the latter, are you running the code as the user "sde"? For example, something I often do is right-click on an application, like ArcGIS Pro or Windows Command Prompt, select "run as different user," and then sign in as the desired account. You'd have to do something like this if the sde connection is operating system authenticated. I apologize if you already know this! On a different topic, I noticed that you're assigning the cursor to a variable. Just in case you're not familiar with this - I apologize if you are - you would then need to delete the cursor at the end of your code to avoid leaving a schema lock: del cur The more preferred way of dealing with a cursor is to use "with," and then you don't need to delete the cursor: with arcpy.da.InsertCursor(fc, fields) as cur:

Hello, Here is a function / code block I wrote that does what you're describing: def number_streets(street):
components = street.split(" ")
num = components[-1]
if len(num) == 1:
num = "-0" + num
else:
num = "-" + num
stname = " ".join(components[:-1])
result = stname + num
return result If you want to test it out, here's an example of how I tested it: sts = ["MY ST 1", "MY ST 2", "MY ST 10", "MY ST 41"]
for st in sts:
print(number_streets(st)) The results I got were: MY ST-01 MY ST-02 MY ST-10 MY ST-41 For a field calculation, the expression would be: number_streets(!YOUR_FIELD_NAME!) I'd be interested to hear if you use this and/or if it works for your purposes.
