Commenting on this for visibility. This would be VERY helpful. Just because everything can be a GP tool doesn't mean everything SHOULD be a GP tool.

I am working on creating a written workflow for handling a large imagery dataset at my organization and teaching future users how to create them. Quick summary of my workflow: 1. Create Mosaic Dataset 2. Add Rasters to Mosaic Dataset 3. Define Overviews 4. Build Overviews Step 4 is where I encountered the issue. On my first test, building the overviews took 35 minutes for ~900 imagery tiles. During step 3. I designated that the overviews be stored in the file geodatabase. Once I finished my documentation, I decided run through it to make sure it was coherent and easy to follow. I did everything the same, except this time, when Defining Overviews in step 3, I did not designate them to be stored in a file goedatabase, but rather a folder on my C drive. When I clicked run, I immediately noticed that the tool was going much slower. When it finally finished it had taken over 5 hours to run. I decided to comb through the tool logs in the GP history panel and I came across one big discrepancy. Just before the tool started generating overviews, it said the following: 2023-10-18T13:44:59.883: Distributing mosaic dataset operation across 10 parallel instances on the specified host: [GIS-0123]. When I go to that same spot in the log for the second run, I can clearly see that it did not say anything about parallel processing. Here is a screenshot from the logs (the log on the right is the 35 minute run and the log on the left is the the 5 hour run). The only thing I did differently was in the defining overview stage. So I can't figure out why the parallel processing was affected. I did not tweak the parallel processing environment settings in either tool. Anyone have any experience with this issue?

I published a tif as a tile layer using the arcgis online tiling scheme. The layer published without issues but when zooming in closer than 18,056 and out further than 577,791, the image disappears, as expected. I then went to the settings of the Tile Layer. It was initially set to this: I updated it to this: Based on the highlighted text, it would seem to me that since I have set the Visible range to larger than the tiles that were published, it would resample the closest available tile size. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case. When I opened the layer again and zoomed out, the tiled layer still disappeared, even after manually updating the layers Visible range in the map as well. I then went down a rabbit hole and found an old community post that mentioned that the JSON in the REST endpoint has parameter for "resampling" : false, Here is a screenshot of the parameter from the JSON: It took me a while to figure out how to actually edit the JSON parameter, but finally I did. And as soon as I changed it to "resampling" : true, the tiled layer would draw at all scales. No matter how far I was zoomed in or out. I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like it should be that difficult to get the layer to draw at all scales. Most users are going to want to be able to see the layer beyond the tiled range, even if it is a downsampled version. To me, this seems like a bug. The settings page of the tiled layer specifically says "When tiles are not available, the layer will be drawn by resampling existing tiles." This doesn't seem to actually be true, however. In every instance of tiled layer I published, resampling was disabled in the JSON file by default. The only way to fix it was to access the REST service as an admin and manually update the parameter using the "Edit" function. I'd love to hear from others as I may have missed something that would have made this easier. Thanks for any information you can provide!

How did you do this? I don't see a way to edit the json file. I'm having this exact same problem.

I am having this same problem. How do you enable resampling? I don't see a way to edit the parameter from false to true.

I am trying to create a new mosaic dataset on our enterprise geodatabase. I create the mosaic dataset without issue. I added the rasters without issue. I then used the define overviews and build overviews tool and told it to use the same location as the mosaic dataset. The tools run very quickly (less than 30 seconds) and returns no errors, but when they complete, nothing happens. No overviews are built. I've tried this several times and all had the same result. I decided to test in in a file geodatabase as well and may have somewhat identified the problem. Based on my understanding of the process, there should be a folder that ends with ".Overviews" generated in the same location as the mosaic dataset geodatabase. But for some reason, that folder is never created. Any idea what the problem could be?

I am trying to publish a tiled layer that contains two things. 1. A hill shade raster 2. a vector feature class that contains elevation points labeled for reference. The job succeeds without issue, but when I open the layer in ArcGIS online the raster never shows up. Here is what the layer that I published looks like: This is all that shows up in AGOL: As you can see, the point layer shows up fine, but for some reason the raster just never makes it through. Any suggestions? Here is what shows up in arcgis online after it is published:

I have noticed that when I have this issue, if I undo the clip, save the project, and reopen, 9 times out of 10 it clips properly and preserves the line once I reopen it. This definitely seems like a bug.

In addition to redefining the boundary line to the creek centerline, it is also creating a new parcel. In that case, would I need to shrink all three affected parcels to seed and manually remove the lines around? What about the surrounding parcels that are affected, but not necessarily a part of this record. How would I handle those? I know you guys have done a lot of demos in the past and I've looked for one that handled a situation like this but haven't found one so far. Are you aware of a recording that might cover a situation like this? Thanks!

I may be misunderstanding what you mean, but I don't think I can merge, because no parcels are being combined. Here is an overlay that shows what needs to happen. The red lines are the new geometry (which will result in one additional parcel being created.

I got an updated survey in and it is substantially different from the original record. The original line was just a simplified version of the stream that forms the boundary. The new survey actually follows the curve of the stream. What is the best way to align something like this? Here is a screenshot of the area. The red line is the new boundary and the black line is the current line that needs to be replaced.

I am getting the message under very strange circumstances. I have a web map that is using a feature service from ourportal (passed through to arcgis online using the service url with credentials stored in it). This map is used for our field crews to collect data. When you first open the map, all the features show up as they should and everything looks great. However, if you zoom in fairly close (~1:1000), they all disappear and never come back. If you then refresh the page, this is what pops up: You then have to completely close the map and clear the browser cache to clear the error message. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this issue? Edit: Here is a screenshot of the console log from google chrome.

Make sure that you are signed into the AGOL account that you saved the custom tile layer to. If you are, you can go the Catalog pane, go to "Portal" and you should see all your layers from AGOL in there. Here is what mine looks like: The custom basemap is in the lower red box. You can just add that to your map!
