Bill,   I have never tried the COALESCE function and not sure it is supported.  We are using the msscriptcontrol to evaluate the expression which is very limited.  Have you tried a simpler version of your statement make sure it works?  The "Expression" rule is the same, no matter how it is triggered.  Some rules have trigger event filters, but this one does not. ... Sandra,    Can you add the table to ArcMap, uncheck the option to perform a versioned edit and see if you can edit that table manually using one of the editors logins?  The tools perform an unversioned edit to the table to increment the IDs. ... View more

Even though the data is not NULL, try this IIF(isNull([unit_num]), [stnum], [stnumsuf]) we are using the MS Script Control to process these expressions and it can be picky.  We did code for many of these cases and if I recall correctly, the IsNull() we added should handle blank.  Let me know if it works and if not, I can crack open the source and see what is going on. ...
