Hi Erik, Thank you for that information. I haven't been able to locate an S3 here, we have an S2 that works fine. I would assume you've already tried uninstalling/reinstalling Collector? We've seen similar issues when upgrading certain Android devices to a newer OS version. The new OS version itself is not the problem, just rather the upgrade process itself. Here is more information about that issue - Bug: Upgrading some devices to Android OS version 7.x may not allow existing web maps to be opened without a factory res… The difference between that issue and the one you're running into, is that you said it wasn't working out-of-the-box with the factory OS nor the new OS when upgraded. The issue above only happened after upgrading the OS. The behavior though was similar, none of the maps would open, you would just continue receiving the loading feedback. But the maps weren't crashing either. What was the original OS version and what is the new, current, version? In the case of the issue above, the only way to resolve that issue is to perform a factory reset of the Android device and reinstall Collector. Again this was due to the OS upgrade process. Provided you've backed-up any data off that device first, would you be able to try performing a factory reset and then reinstalling Collector? From my experience, since I ran into that other issue when upgrading my Samsung Galaxy Tab A from 6.0.1 to 7.0, is that after performing the factory reset, it kept 7.0 installed and did not revert back to 6.0.1. Therefore that might happen in this case as well, where the new OS remains installed. In my case, Collector worked fine after the reset. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you. -Kevin

Hi Erik, Was the Android OS on that device recently upgraded or is it the original OS version is was purchased with? What version of Android is it currently running? As a test, can you launch Collector and sign into the 'Try it' account to access the free maps. Can you open any of those? Thanks -Kevin

Hi Francesca, My name is Kevin and I work on the Collector team. With regards to your last post, I was able to view your video. The reason why your labels and symbology aren't displaying when the map is opened in Collector is because the current version of Collector doesn't support labels and also doesn't support Arcade Expressions, which your symbology is based off of. We're currently working on the next generation version of Collector that we should be releasing for beta in the upcoming months. I am not sure that labels or support for Arcade expressions will make it into the first beta, but we plan on releasing a series of beta versions throughout the next several months that should address those as well as many other current limitations. Please keep an eye out for any upcoming blog posts regarding this new version of Collector and for more information about it. Thank you. -Kevin

Hi Olivia, Thank you for the response. Before doing the factory reset, did you happen to first try the steps I outlined above for temporarily removing your ArcGIS_Collector folder from the tablet > then reinstalling Collector? I am trying to see if that folder could be the cause of this problem. Unfortunately I don't have a repro case to test that myself. Thanks -Kevin

Hi Heather, Thank you for sharing that information. This sounds like an unlikely scenario because Collector doesn't currently support any type of hybrid workflow where it performs an auto-sync when it detects network connectivity. Collector is either purely online or offline and requires a manual sync to either push or pull edits to online, even if the online and offline maps share the same services. I performed a similar test on my end using iOS and Android and the edits I made to the online map did not get updated automatically in the offline map. I was connected to a stable WiFi network throughout that testing. I have a few questions for you: - What OS are they working with? - How many times has this happened to them? - Can we verify that at no point they might have clicked the 'sync' button? - Are they the only user on that device? - How much time passed between when the map was downloaded and when they opened it and saw this issue? - What version of the app are they using? - What type of device are they using? Thank you -Kevin

Hello, I just wanted to provide an update to this forum. *Note - in general prior to performing any OS upgrade, please ensure that any offline data has been synchronized. Because this behavior is still being investigated and because having to factory reset the device is not an ideal workaround, here is another workflow that might solve this problem. If anyone runs into this issue, before factory resetting the device, please try the following: Connect the Android tablet to a PC via the USB cable. Make sure Collector is closed. Using Windows Explorer on the PC, navigate to the tablet and locate the ArcGIS_Collector folder. Cut/paste that entire folder onto the desktop PC. Back on the device, uninstall and reinstall Collector. A new ArcGIS_Collector folder will be created on the device. Launch Collector and access the free maps via ‘Try Collector for ArcGIS’. Try opening the ‘GNSS Capture’ map. See if the basemap loads. If it does, sign in and open your map and download it as well to test it. I am not sure if these steps will work to fix this issue, but it’s a quick and easy test to try. You can replace the ArcGIS_Collector folder afterwards if necessary on the device. Please respond back to this forum to let me know if these steps worked or not. Unfortunately I do not have a reproducible case on my end to try these steps. Thank you. -Kevin

Thanks Michael, I just completed the factory reset on my Android tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab A) and reinstalled Collector. Everything is working correctly now. (This being my first time factory resetting an Android device) After the factory reset was completed it remained at 7.0, like your tablet, and didn't drop back to 6.0.1 that it natively had. Therefore it must have just been a bad installation of 7.0. Thanks for all your help on this one! -Kevin

Thank you Michael for that information. I am glad to hear that the factory reset worked for you. Just out of curiosity though, was your Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 originally purchased with 7.0 factory installed or was it upgraded from 6.0.1 to 7.0? From the original post it appears that it was purchased at 7.0, but I just wanted to clarify this. I am going to try the factory reset on my tablet and see how it goes. Thanks -Kevin

Thank you Kim, The issue you're running into sounds different that the one originally posted. The behavior we're seeing is that when you just try to open a map, nothing actually renders on the screen and the UI continues to give feedback that the map is loading, but it never does. This issue is specifically regarding Android 7 and not 6.0.1. In your case, it appears that when you try to download a map and zoom to an area, it crashes on Android 6.0.1 and/or 7. Is that correct? On any of your devices running 6.0.1 or 7, can you successfully open any map (outside of downloading) and have the features and basemap display normally? Did this issue just recently start happening for you? When did it work last? Did you recently upgrade Collector versions to 17.0.2 and started seeing this issue? Thank you -Kevin

Hi Michael, Thank you for reporting that issue with your tablet. I have been able to reproduce that same behavior on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A. It was initially running Android 6.0.1 but I just upgraded it to 7.0 this morning. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Collector 17.0.2 a few times, but still the basemaps do not load when the maps are opened. Please confirm if you see the following, in addition to the basemaps not loading in the open map: - There are two 'Search' buttons (magnifying glass icons) on the top toolbar in the map gallery. - When you attempt to download a map, the basemap loads in those screens. This issue is still being investigated on our end. Strangely though, I just tested with a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 running Android 7.0 and it works just fine with Collector. However I then compared the Android build number and other information in the About page for the device between the Tab S2 that worked and my Tab A that didn't. The build information on my Tab A appears to be a newer version of 7.0. Perhaps this could be why one works and one doesn't. Could you please post a screenshot from your Tab S2 (Settings > About tablet)? I want to compare yours with mine. So far I haven't tested the issue regarding adding/submitting new features. My colleague has a Nexus 9 tablet running Android 7.1.1 and it works fine as well. Also we've tested on a Samsung Galaxy S6 running Android 7.0 and it also works fine. Therefore at this point, there are many variables to try and narrow down. Thank you. -Kevin

Since the above steps have been posted, this issue has been tested and narrowed down further to specific offline basemaps. The following set of steps provide a more detailed approach to identifying the problematic files, while still preserving much of the offline data content: Close Collector Connect the device to a PC via USB Using Windows Explorer to access the device, navigate to ArcGIS_Collector > offline_data > basemaps Cut/paste all the offline basemaps into a folder on the PC Using a process of elimination, proceed to paste each basemap folder back into the basemaps folder on the device, while opening Collector in between. Once the problematic basemap(s) have been identified, proceed to remove them from the device and redownload if necessary. Note: This workflow may be performed directly on the device via its file explorer app w/out the use of the USB connection. The steps just might vary due to different Android versions or file explorer apps being used on the devices. Thanks -Kevin

Hi Adam, Thank you for the detailed explanation of the issue. Would you be able to share your webmap/feature service with us to test? If so, please create a group (or use an existing one) with the webmap/feature service and then add the Collector4ArcGIS user into that group. We can then sign into Collector and test on our end to try and further narrow the problem down. As a quick question though, when you're creating the location profile in Collector and defining the datums, they aren't getting mixed up and choosing a Projected Coordinate System instead of a Geographic Coordinate System or vice-versa. Is that correct? i.e. if the webmap is using a GCS the location profile is also using a GCS and not PCS? Thanks -Kevin
