Mike, is there a way in your survey equipment to add a timestamp? After you grab the data you use the timestamp to identify older data that you already have. You could do the same if the equipment adds a unique number to each feature. Hope this helps!

With a free account you can upload your layers to ArcGIS online. You just need to zip each shapefile individually and upload it. The only problem is you have 1000 feature limit and you can only symbolize your layer with what ESRI provides. If you have an organizational account, you can upload hosted feature services through ArcGIS Desktop, to look exactly like you symbolized them in your MXD. Just upload each layer individually and then add them all together in one ArcGIS Online map. On the left side you can click on content and you can turn layers off and on. Hope this helps!

I think you should be able to set your workspace to in memory and then copy the feature to somewhere and add it from there? env.workspace = "in_memory" arcpy.CopyFeatures_management("yourfeatureclass.shp", "C:/output/output.gdb/yourfeatureclass")

You can also use the cut polygon tool in your editor bar. Select the polygon you want a piece cut out of, click on "Cut Polygons Tool", draw around the piece that needs to be gone, double click once your box is drawn. Once it is cut out select it and delete it. That's what I love about ArcGIS so many ways you can do things 🙂

I believe you only need to rebuild the locator if your reference data changes. When I change properties of my locators I don't rebuild them. Only when I update my street centerline, then I rebuild my locators.

Maybe this example will clear it up. Lets say you have a flex webmap that you can access through the internet. In there you have a feature service that includes a field that houses "S:\PLANS\AAPLANS\PLATS\PB 36\PB 36 65 TEST U-7.pdf" . I don't think you are able to access this document through the internet due to security reasons. But what you can do is upload this pdf to a webserver and adjust the link to say something like "http:\mywebserver\mydocument.pdf" .

Michael, from what I have read you can't access local data (i.e. PDF's) through a web application due to security reasons. What you could do though is host the data on a server and then link to that. Hope this helps.

Is there a reason you need to rebuild it? Once it is build, there is no reason to rebuild it unless you have newer addresses in your reference data. You can search for addresses even though the reference data does not exist.

Jessica, thanks for posting that! I always wondered how it will work. I know that the organization I work for already has their Online Subscription set up, through those free accounts. So it seems they might be working with big organizations first and then with single users? Tim

I created a field and added this string S:\PLANS\AAPLANS\PLATS\PB 36\PB 36 65 TEST U-7.pdf Then I went to the Display tab in the layer properties, checked "Support Hyperlinks using field:" pointed to the field I put in what is seen above and checked document. Now when I use the little lightning bolt icon I can click on an address and it opens the pdf. Is this how you did it?

No problem! Don't forget to mark it as answer, so people who have the same problem know how to solve it.

What happens when you right-click your address locator and click on "Rebuild"? Also, do you mean this data? http://www.esri.com/data/data-maps/data-and-maps-dvd

Hey Paul, You can download number Symbols here http://mapicons.nicolasmollet.com/numbers-letters/numbers/ Then upload them to an image sharing website and use the "Add an Image" button in the "Change Symbol" pop up to add the numbers. Make sure to credit, where you got the symbols. Hope this helps!
