In the 2nd link I posted, can't you just set the properties for each field to calculate the "sum"? Each of your polygons will then have the sum of each grade.

Tyson, You could do a spatial joint, which moves over the attributes from one feature to other. This might also help. Hope this helps! Tim

Hunter, tell them depending what ArcGIS product they buy, you might also be able to get a free ArcGIS Online organization account which includes ESRI maps for Office.

Did you maybe think about creating a model that you can run whenever you want to update your buffer? You could even set it up to run automatically at night. Just create your model with model builder, export it to python and then run the python script using Windows Task Scheduler. I maintain dispatch maps, and instead of a buffer I just make the lines thicker, which looks pretty good.

I would also download a trial version of ArcGIS 10.2 at work, because it is completely different from ArcGIS 9.2

Hey Ligia, I think the only way to do this is select the new segment, use the buffer tool and then append it to your buffer FC. What do you use the buffer for? Tim

When you created the shapefile did you also digitize all the 7 polygons? Since your spreadsheet has no spatial reference data it can't join it to non existing data. I'm also confused that your data has a field called shape_length (which is an attribute of a line) and shae_area (which is an attribute of a polygon.

Does your spreadsheet have X and Y data? If it does, just create a shapefile with your spreadsheet using Add xy data. Open an mxd, click on "File" -> "Add Data" -> "Add XY Data..." Make sure to add Columns to your spreadsheet, and name them the way you want them to be named in your future attribute table.

John, this is how it works: Open your mxd with the shapefile you want to upload. Symbolize the shapefile the way you want it to look, once uploaded it will keep that look. After that do the following. Click on "File" -> "Sign in..." and sign into your organizational account. Click on "File" -> "Share As" -> "Share as Service" -> "Publish a service" Choose My Hosted Services (My Account) and as Service name use for example Auto_Data In the Capabilities tab uncheck Tiled Mapping and check Feature Access. In the Item Description tab fill in the required fields. Once you are done with that, click on Publish Let me know if you have any more questions!

Your right Allen, the slideshow really shines in ArcGIS Explorer online. But if you have a organizational account you can even add interactive maps to your power point slides which is pretty neat.

John, you can do that too. But if you do it through ArcGIS Desktop, if you have an organizational account, you can determine the symbology yourself and don't depend on what ESRI has available. Let me know if you need help with publishing it through ArcGIS Desktop.
