Alex McDowell This is more common in mixed IPv4 and IPv6 environments, the lmgrd.exe daemon looses its service connection to the ARCGIS.exe Vendor daemon. You are missing some of the Vendor daemon diagnostics as they are being overwritten at restart. So, first thing you'll need to change the logging for the Vendor daemon to append rather than overwrite. That way you'll see the full details of the error on each license server for the ARCGIS vendor daemon. That is done by adding a "+" to the DEBUGLOG stanza of the ArcGIS Options file as in these Esri instructions. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/install-guides/license-manager/10.2/#/DEBUGLOG/007900000029000000/ Also, ask your IT network folks, is your internal network routing IPv6, or legacy IPv4? Specifically what is happening at the swtiches serving your license pools? Then check, how does the hostname for your server DNS resolve? To an IPv4 or IPv6 address? Check at several clients, and on both license servers. It needs to be consistent. Post up the service.txt for both License servers -- C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\License10.3\bin, suspect it has been left to the default "this_host". Resolving that setting controls the exchange between the ARCGIS daemon and the server lmgrd daemon--if it is not resolving consistently it can be causing the service loss. this_host can be changed to specific hostname or an IP -- but doing so may require deauthorization/authorization of the FNP fulfillments held in trusted storage. But before trying that, get the complete log of the ARCGIS vendor daemon for both servers. Stuart

Robert Pollock Have a look at the "Find A Grave" site query for Chaffee country Colorado http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=csr&CScn=&CScntry=4&CSst=7&CScnty=248 If there is a georeference to it, the listing will have a "Map" tab link to a Google Maps API listing. You can verify and collect the points that way. Stuart

Bridget, * ArcGIS for Desktop is distributed by Esri as a self extracting zip. When you launch that program it does exactly what you describe -- it extracts the installer and then offers to run it (actually just a check-box to prevent it from running after extraction). It only needs to be extracted and run once! After that you need to run the ArcGIS Administrator dialog to complete activation and authorization. Answered similar in this thread -- Student Version - ArcGIS Error Message You may be out of luck with reusing the 180-day EVA code that came with your text. Esri Press | GIS Books & Tutorials - Buy Books Online They are not intended to be rearmed. But you can go ahead and try to deauthorize from your Desktop install issuing from a command window: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ArcGIS\bin\softwareauthorization.exe" -s -return all And then try to reuse it on the laptop from the ArcGIS Administrator dialog--Authorize now... wizard. You might do better to just obtain another EVA authorization code from school, or the 60-day trial authorization from Esri. Or go ahead and purchase your own Home-use seat ArcGIS for Home Use Program | ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced for Personal Use (US$ 100) Stuart

Mark Hotz It is not at all clear, but the Single User licenses have absolutely nothing to do with the ArcGIS License Manager other than that they all are based on FlexNet Publisher Trusted Storage licensing technology. For the Concurrent use -- "floating" -- licenses, the Esri ArcGIS License Manager is required, and you would authorize a pool of licenses on the Server with Esri. And then serve out licenses from your own pool. With the commercial Single Use products, including all 90/180 day ESRI press & 1-year Educational use or the 60 day "trial" licenses, the license fulfillment exchanges are done directly for each seat with Esri's FlexNet Publisher servers at Redlands. The commercial Singled Use codes will be ESU12345678, while the trial/evaluation codes will be EVA12345678. For Esri Press or Campus Agreement trial/evaluation Authorization numbers--each user/student must individually register their Authorization number here: http://www.esri.com/StudentEdition --or-- ArcGIS 90 or 180-Day Trial for Your Workbook Esri Press | GIS Books & Tutorials - Buy Books Online Once the Authorzation code is activated--the Single Use authorization is exactly the same for trial/evaluation (EVA) or commercial (ESU) Single Use seats. It is easiest to accomplish when you have a network connection to exchange the https port 443 traffic using the "Authorize now via the internet" Authorizing ArcGIS single-use products and features—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop So, sorry but there was no need to install the license manager--and it would not have "activated" or authorized with the EVA12345678 code that was present in the back of the GTKAGS Esri Press text. You may only need to launch the ArcGIS Administrator and on the Desktop tab: select the Standard (ArcEditor) Single Use radio button. But, if you've really locked out the Authorization--contact an Esri customer service rep or Esri Press support, they should be able to arrange a "rearm" of the trial/evaluation code, or issue a new one. Then correctly activate it against a unique Esri global user account--or have the CSR do it for you--and then use it to authorize the Single Seat as above. Stuart

Mody Buchbinder, * This is a tough one. I don't baby sit our Citrix hosted clients so my direct experience is limited--suspect that since our license pools are sloppy, we probably just don't notice the over consumption of seats. For License File based use there is an optional attribute "DUP_GROUP" applicable to FEATURE or INCREMENT that controls this facet as set by the software publisher. Unfortunately, with Trusted Storage we don't see the configuration so can't tell what ESRI has selected for use with fulfillment exchanges. This facet of FlexNet Publisher is not controllable on the user end via options file. To resolve this, believe the more permissive DUP_GROUP=U (DUP_USER)--rather than H (DUP_HOST) or D (DUP_DISPLAY) level would have to have been set by ESRI. Unfortunately it is not at all documented in the ArcGIS License Manager RefGuide. You'll need to open a ticket with ESRI to get them to look at it for you. Stuart

An ArcGIS for Desktop Standard (ArcEditor) level seat (concurrent or single-use) and the additional Network Analyst extension will allow you to work with the prebuilt data of an Esri Street Map Premium licensed data set. A no-cost extension for use with any level of ArcGIS for Desktop (Basic, Standard, Advanced) -- ArcGIS Editor for OpenStreetMap (OSM) extends ArcGIS for Desktop's File Geodatabase support for OSM. It must be installed after your ArcGIS for Desktop seat is installed and configured. Unfortunately I believe, you will need the tools and support for File Geodatabase that the Standard (ArcEditor) level seat provides. The less expensive Basic (ArcView) level seat would probably be insufficient for task. Also to do terrain and LOS analysis you'll need to purchase the Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst extensions from Esri at added cost. As to OSM or Esri's licensed StreetMap Premium support for locations in the Philippines, OSM may be viable in some locations--but coverage may be spotty. I've no idea if Esri's StreetMap Premium data vendor has coverage in those markets. Good luck with the project--maybe hire a GISP with skills in this area to advise you Stuart

@David, Actually not that rare an issue. What is not clear to folks (nor well explained during installation) is that the ArcGIS for Desktop product can be authorized (and run) in two broad categories. One, concurrent or floating network license requiring use of a pool of licenses authorized and delivered from a server; the other mode is Single Use where just the local installation is authorized. Trials of various lengths 90, 180, 365 days are ALL of the Single Use variety. The Authorization code is activated against your trial user account--and your installation of ArcGIS for Desktop is then enabled by a simple network exchange of encrypted license fulfillment strings that are held locally on your computer and consulted at each launch. Where you went amiss at the end of installation was that you did not set the seat type to be Advanced (ArcInfo) Single Use. Your seat is set to the default Advanced (ArcInfo) Concurrent Use. Simple to correct... As an Administrator privileged user, with an active network connection. 1. Open ArcGIS Administrator 2. Select the Desktop panel 3. Select the Advanced (ArcInfo) Single Use radio button 4. Select the "Authorize now..." button to run the wizard. 5. complete the wizard and "authorize now via the internet" Should be set. But post back if still stuck.

nadeem fareed Sorry, those instructional materials are Esri proprietary for use in their instructor lead ArcHydro courses. The Zip archive password is only available to paid class attendees. The only tutorial/exercise material is in the sftp://ADSRiverHydraulics@mft.esri.com/camp/ArcHydro/Tutorial folder. It is titled Arc Hydro Tools 2.0 - Tutorial, but the exercises and data are mostly still correct through current 10.3.0.59/10.2.0.191 builds (2015-12-07). Stuart

Ben Pampel SImple answer is that ArcGIS for Desktop is a 32-bit program. By default it will use 2GB, but that can be tweaked to use 3.2GB in its process space. That is it. Out of process Python 2.7 Geoprocessing can be extended to use 64-bit address space. The 64-bit geoprocessing extension installs a 64-bit Python 2.7 instance and replaces linkages to some of the 32-bit ArcPy libraries. You can of course run multiple instances of ArcGIS for Desktop, but you have to handle the parallelization of your work flow. Beyond ArcGIS for Desktop, you will have to work with ArcGIS Pro and its 64-bit Python 3.4 instance. Or move to a non-Esri 64-bit implementation of GRASS or QGIS and the standalone OSGeo GDAL/OGR utilities.

Correct, the ArcGIS Business Analyst extension does not work with ArcGIS Pro. However, the Business Analyst Online content does--which your license for BA should give you access. So again, depending on if your work flow is supported by ArcGIS Pro, and if you have a reasonably good internet connection to access the BAO data (it gets cached locally)--you could have the performance you need with ArcGIS Pro.

Robert Stevens, * We'll assume that you actually installed 64-bit Windows 7 for the guest VM You might want to poke at ArcGIS Pro (included with your ArcGIS for Desktop 10.3.1 license, but accessed through your ArcGIS Online account). Fully 64-bit, Python 3.3 based--no it will not (and will likely never) run natively on OS X--still in its infancy, but it your work flows are supported you can take full advantage of your available memory under a 64-bit guest OS. The UI is still evolving, and naturally the map configuration files (.MXD / .APR) are not inter-operable, but if it works for you it is the way to go. Otherwise, many Python based geoprocessing functions can be moved off 32-bit with installation of the 64-bit background geoprocessing extension. Also, remember that when running a VM under Parallels, your are emulating a 64-bit Guest OS emulating a 32-bit processor when you run ArcGIS for Desktop -- carving out space for a BootCamp Windows dual boot instance running natively would improve things--and is actually a supported configuration that Esri will support (unlike Parallels or Fusion). Let us know. Stuart

Spoke with Tony this morning, he's one of our grad students here at UT San Antonio, and is teaching himself ArcGIS to do an independent study. Seems he has some issues with the Link Tables while georeferencing, and we think he had the "Auto Adjust" check box set when he started with a new image--losing the image when the second link was entered. He's going to check next time. I'll be having him review the on-line help article starting with: Fundamentals of georeferencing And we'll get together at some point to review his work flow to digitize off the georeferenced/rectified Sanborn map sheets. Thanks! Stuart
