Zachary As my brain has warmed up on this, and I looked online at the cases filed with ESRI, I can now confirm that it was confirmed by ESRI as a bug. The bug identifier is: BUG-000157731 I have not yet looked further to see what the status of that bug is. I may get around to it shortly.

Hello Zachary Time has passed, conda became irrelevant for my needs, and I am struggling to remember what technical support suggested. The last thing we tried was to turn off the anti-virus, and I believe that worked. Conda was still not blindingly fast but acceptable. But turning antivirus off is clearly not an acceptable solution. I believe that the upshot was that a fix was needed to ESRI software and would be incorporated into a new release. Whether that happened I don't know, and I have not not tested since. It so happens that I am working with these python environments again and may soon revisit. I will let you know of any new result I have when I next test I am currently on the most up-to-date release of AcrGIS Pro (3.1.3)

I have been trying to familiarise myself with the Conda environment mechanism in ArcGIS Pro (I am running Pro 3.1). Witness my earlier post about durability of environments. I created a new Conda environment, then used the Python Command Prompt from the Start Menu. Every invocation of Conda takes an eternity to complete. It takes tens of seconds to return even when the command line is incorrect. Eg I tried Conda list --envs. It took 35seconds! to inform me that --envs was an unrecognized argument. How can this be that slow?? How is it possible to use such an environment with performance like that??

Hi Dan You ask "Are you saying it isn't?". No, not at all. I am not saying either "is" or "isn't". I wanted to be sure I understood what was happening when I activate a new environment. I always feel somewhat anxious when I press a button, or hit return at the end of a command line, and notice a distinct pause -- I find my wondering how much furniture is being moved around off stage occasioned by that one simple action. Thanks

Follow up to original posting: I found this baffling and filed it as a bug. ESRI have confirmed that this behavior of the API is incorrect and new bug has been opened against it. In my bug report I mused that possibly many other APIs might have similar unusual behavior, but that i just speculation on my part. Whatever causes this bug it seems to me inconsistent with Python syntax and semantics. It is almost as thought the equality operator has been redefined as is possible in C++. ESRI have reproduced this behavior and filed as a bug: BUG-000156266

I am trying to understanding the use of Conda within an Arcgis Pro desktop installation (version 3.1). I'll start with a general comment: There are a bewildering number of ESRI pages describing this: how to install Anaconda, MiniConda, Clone,... but frankly, as so often seems to be the case with ERSI's documentation, the pages don't seem to flow together in some sort of logical progression. So for my specific questions which are simple: 1. When I "clone" a new Conda environment by cloning an existing copy, am I getting an exact copy of that existing environment? I would have thought yes, but a recursive diff seems to show otherwise, and the documentation seems to imply that in the new env I need to install ESRI arcgis package (conda install -c esri arcgis) (BTW the documentation shows variously conda install -c esri arcgis=<version>. What version? 2. Suppose I activate the environment, either from a command window or from ARcGIS Pro GUI. Does that activation actually change the file system and hence subsequent invocations of ArcGIS Pro, new command line windows shell, .. whatever, or does the new environment only persist during the session in which the activation is invoked (as would be the case, for instance, if all that happened within the particular session is that some environment variables were changed, shuffled around)

I am using arcgis Pro 3.1 I am experienced with arcgis Pro, but not at all familiar with ArcHydro. I have the .msi download from the archydro resources website, the 3.5.0 version. I have installed this software My understanding is that this software must be added to arcgis pro. I use pro's Add-In Manager: Add-In Manager => Options => Add Folder (Load all Add-Ins without restriction is set) and this brings up a browse window. But this browse window does not list C:\ProgramData which is where the .esriAddInX file for ArcHydro is located. Why not?? Thus I am unable to load the Add-In. Am I correct in thinking that ArcHydro needs to be loaded as an Add-In?? Regardless of my lack of understanding of ArcHydro I do not at all understand why the browser window does not display under C: the ProgramData subdirectory (it does, for example display Program Files)

Hi Kepa Thanks for your reply. I was wondering whether I could believe my own eyes. The examples in ESRI's documentation use that rather long winded way of creating a fieldmap object. One would think that ESRI might perhaps explain why it is necessary to do it that way. I don;t know why it is with this software that there is always some surprise or undocumeted strangeness lurking around the corner. Like you, I am hoping someone else with more knowledge of ESRI's Python maze can comment.

I am using arcpro3.0.3 and am using the TableToTable API to convert a shapefile .dbf file into .csv. One of the arguments to TableToTable is a FieldMappings parameters, and I amusing this to rename all of the fields in the original shapefile. The documentation of FieldMap has example code which looks like this (names of variables not the same as in documentation, but you get the idea) fm = arcpy.FieldMap() fm.addInputField(tablename,oldfieldname) outf = fm.outputField outf.name = newfieldname fm.outputField = out ... The above code seems to work, but this code below (which appears to me to have the same effect does not) The code which differs in the two examples is in red fm = arcpy.FieldMap() fm.addInputField(tablename,oldfieldname) fm.outputField.name = newfieldname ... In the first case the field in question has its name in the output .csv file changed (from oldfieldname to newfieldname; in the second case the field name remains unchanged. Why is that? To my eye both code snippets do exactly the same thing.

This procedure did nothing. I ssh to the client windows 10 box, try to run python with arcpy and still get the same message after having spent 30 mins of my time going throught the involved procedure of converting to a single user license.

Hello David Thanks. Your posting confirms what I had suspected. Arcmap is falling by the wayside fast, and my company should transition to arcpro asap. I'm just not going to mess with arcmap further.

I am running arcmap (basic) 10.8.1 and have permissions to create in arcgis online I have a fairly simple map with ESRI World Street Map as basemap. I wish to save it to arcgis online as a webmap from an invocation on my desktop of arcmap I see no option to do that. When I click share it presents me with two choices: to save as a map package or to save as a service. I don't think I want either of these. Am I suffering from some vast misconception of what arcmap is capable of doing online? I know I used to be able to save webmaps: I can see a handful from previous work (albeit going back a few years). Thanks
