Hey there Mark,    By default, ArcGIS for PowerBI will inherit the Layer Level symbology (as in the layers default symbology, not the web maps). To reconfigure this, bring in that feature layer into a new web map, set the symbology to your specifications, then select Save Layer from layer options (not the web map). If you are looking to do spatial analysis on your data layer with a reference layer based on the reference layer attribute, I would recommend the Join Layers approach: https://doc.arcgis.com/en/power-bi/design/join-layers.htm Essentially, it enables you to join the data layer to the reference layer based off of a common attribute. Could you double check the directory the logs are being printed out too? If you are able to take on some downtime, running the Configure ArcGIS Server Account tool is my go to to try to resolve this. I would also check to make sure that this directory is not read only. ... View more

Hello Andrew,     At this time, I don't think it is possible to add a single child layer out of a complete reference layer. Do you have ownership of the dataset? If so, you may be able to publish only the layer you need and go from there. ... View more
