Mark, I am working on a project at the moment and am using Zonal Stastics as a Table. I do this as I want to merge this data back to the features I used to produce the zone. The parcel ID is added to the output table which enables me to do a join back withe the original feature. Cheers Gordon

Hello Darryl, You should probably address this question to Trimble, but my understanding is on a windows 7 based device (Yuma) Timble positions writes an extra column to the database and requires the data to be post processed. On a windows embedded device (Juno, GeoXT, Nomad) Timble positions corrects the GPS data on-the-fly and passes it to ArcGIS Mobile 3.1 / 10.1.1. Cheers Gordon

Mark is correct. Be aware though you should create a tiling scheme first using the tool Generate Tile Cache Tiling Scheme http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//001700000188000000 and import this if you are using a projected coordinate system. If you use the default tiling scheme ARCGISONLINE_SCHEME it will reproject you tiled cache to web auxiliary sphere and may not line up with your layers in ArcGIS Mobile. Cheers Gordon

Dan, At this stage feature services with ArcGIS mobile for Windows is only available with AGOL. At 10.2 you wil be able to install Portal for ArcGIS Server and this effectively gives you AGOL behind your firewall. With this in place you will be able to access the feature services on your ArcGIS server. Until then you will need to continue to use mobile services with GLOBALIDS on the feature classes. Cheers Gordon

Nate, Image extension is required when ever you serve a mosaic data set. Now if you had a single image in your MXD then you could serve this MXD via ArcGIS Server as ArxGIS server does allow for the serving of single images either via MXD or via an image service. however, as soon as you need to serve a Mosaic you will require Image Extension. Cheers Gordon

Peter, Can't comment on the compulsory field in ArcGIS mobile right now but will check this for you. As for the image rotation this seems to be inherent to all iOS apps. When I demo both Collector and ArcGIS for iOS image appears correct on the iPAD but rotated when I show the results through flex viewer. I think the iPAD is accommodating the rotation but flex viewer / web browser does not read the rotation tag on the stored image. Cheers Gordon

Peter, Looks like you go to the same stage I did when I started testing my mobile applications. There are two problems you are going to encounter. 1) You need to use https://<organization>/sharing (not http://). Make sure you, delete the old entry first from your options and exit Mobile Project Centre . 2) On your AGOL feature service ensure you have the Enable Sync checked. This enables the ArcGIS Mobile editing. Full reference on all the settings can be found at Publishing a hosted Feature Service All the best Gordon

Bruce, At 10.1 f you have the mosaic data set stretched as you would like it in arcmap it is possible to export the settings from the image layer as a function file. Yo can the publish the mosaic to server and on the image service load the function file as the default function. See the following help file for instructions http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//0154000003w6000000 Regards Gordon

Bruce, Before you run the merge operation, you should run the build footprints operation. This will remove the padding you are seeing. The following help page details the process http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//009t0000003w000000 Regards Gordon

Annaliese, I have just been through this exact process. We had a 9.2 GDB to go to a 10.1 GDB. WHile 10.1 can connect to the SDE application service of 9.1/9.2 it cannot directly upgrade the GDB. We in fact installed the SDE 9.3.1 SDE binaries on a machine and used the 9.3.1 post install tools to connect to the 9.2 GDB and perform a 9.3.1 upgrade. WIth this done we could make a 10.1 gdb connection and perform the 10.1 upgrade. A few hoops to jump but it worked. We did find that the 10.1 upgrade was more sensative than the 9.3.1 upgrade and there were some gdb errors that need fixing but mostly it was smooth. Good Luck Gordon

All, I am Using SQL Server 2008 R2. I have a spatial table in my geodatabase in database A. I have a non-spatial table in database B. Both databases reside on the same server. My goal is to open the Spatial feature in ArcGIS, create new features and have the non-spatial table also create new records. I tried to use a relationship class but this only works when the two tables are in the database A. I created an SDE view from Database B to Database A and then included this in a relationship class. While this allowed me to edit the existing records in the non-spatial table it did not allow me create new records when I created new spatial records. Is there a way I can update the non-spatial table in Database B when I modify existing records or create new records in the Spatial Table in database A Thanks in advance Gordon

Timothy, This is a very common question Image Service verses Image Cache. The answer very much depends on your final product. If it is a static image back drop then cache is faster but if image processing is required then image services are better. For a good discussion on this topic see the following blog http://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2010/05/04/imagery-in-web-applications-should-i-use-a-cached-map-service-or-an-image-service/ In either case I can say you should use a mosaic dataset it will display the image faster in ArcMap than you currently see it displaying. You only need image extension to serve the mosaic dataset. However there is a tool at 10.1 which converts an image service to cache which you will also find useful. Regards Gordon

I am putting together an ArcGIS Online project. I have a requirement to capture data in the field on Smart Devices. This is acheived in ArcGIS online OK with ArcGIS online hosting my feature services. Then using the data captured I then need to 1) perform some calculations on the captured data to produce costings 2) prerform reporting based on the data captured and who captured it. In the ArcGIS Server environment I would capture this data direct to a SQL Server database and then perform SQL server reporting to do my calculations. From what I can see this is not possible in ArcGIS Online and I cannot get the data back easily to my corporate environment. Perhaps the only methods I can see that will work is either; 1) Open a port inside the office and have ArcGIS online read the GIS Services directly, or 2) Create an Amazon cloud and have ArcGIS online consume the services from there and then perform my reporting on the Amazon cloud. Any thoughts on this will be appreciated. Regards Gordon

Bruce, I have seen performance increase if the number of vertices in the boundary polygons is kept simple. That's to say when you build boundaries keep the vertice count low.
