Chris, You don't say which version of ArcGIS you are using. I seem to remember that Erdas recently realeased a new plug-in for ArcGIS 10. For a while the released version did not support ArcGIS 10. I suggest downloading the latest from ERDAS and retry. It also could be a conflict with the version of the ECW dll's installed on your system. ArcGIS does read ECW's natively with the licensed dll's but your ECW tool bar may be installing a different version. Perhap try to uninstall the plug-in and loading the ECW with ArcGIS directly. If this fails then contact ERDAS directly an they should be able to support you. Cheers Gordon

We have ArcGIS Mobile b2525 loaded to a Nautiz X7 Handheld GPS. We have loaded the Mobile project to an SD card on the system. When ArcGIS Mobile Starts it connects to the project, loads the map and allows the user to capture data all OK. After a peiod of inactivity the Natutiz will go into hebernation. When the user brings it out of hibernation and ArcGIS Mobile has been left active, ArcGIS Mobile has lost connection to the mobile Cache. No maps appear and when the user tries to capture data nothing is writen to the cache. The workaround is to restart ArcGIS Mobile to reconnect to the cache. Has anyone experienced this?

Jess, That is the correct location to edit the JSON. Just be careful when you are editing this file that your syntax is correct. I alway run mine through http://www.jslint.org just to make sure. cheers Gordon

Marco, I have seen this for two reasons when I created my own local server: 1) The base map is not in Web Mercator, or 2) My JSON is not quite right. This is usually a missing comma (,) or parenthesis ((). To check my JSON I place it in the following web page http://www.jslint.com/ This web site easily identifies the errors cheers Gordon

Tim, At 9.3.1 ArcGIS Image Server is a seperate Standalone Server product that ArcGIS Server can be linked to, to serve image services. It reads most standard image formats. When creating the image services it is optimzed to take advantage of the internal pyramids in an image. Whether this is GRID format, tiff, MrSID etc does not matter. If the pyramids exist then the product can be configured to use these. At V10.0 Image Server still exists but for mainatenance clients only. It dissappears at completely at 10.1. At 10.0 we have the ArcGIS Image Extension which is an extension to ArcGIS Server. With ArcEditor/info you create mosaic data sets in the geodatabase and the ArcGIS Server Image Extension serves these. The Mosaics are basically the same technology that existed in Image Server but the core functionality has been move to the Geodatabase. The question then comes how do I migrate a 9.3.1 Image Service to a Mosaic at version 10. Esri have written a very good help file on this migration path: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//009t000001vt000000. I have walked many clients through this process. Finally you ask if an image service created in 10.0 is viewable in 9.3.1. Well the answer is yes as the 9.3.1 can consume the image services. In V10.0 though if you create tiff files you will not be able to read these as these are Big tiff format. Support was only introduced at 10.0 Hope this Helps

Hi sblitzstein, This is a known workflow issue at 10.0. The workflow recommended by Patrick is what we have been using here in Australia. Interestingly if there is no field crew ArcGIS mobile will let you know there is no data. I do know at 10.1 this has been identified as limitation and Esri are looking to rectify this cheers Gordon

Bryce, You might like to check the properties of the mosaic data set. Go to the Defaults tab on the Mosaic dataset properties. There are two things I look at here. 1) Maximum Size of requests and 2) Maximum number of rasters per mosic. By default Maximum Size of requests is 4100, 15000 and the Maximum number of rasters is 20. I usually configure these to be larger than these default values and it fixes these type of issues. The other thing is you say you are setting the compression to jP2 but you don't say the compression factor. I usually set this to JPEG 70% compression. Cheers Gordon

Jonathon, I think what you need here is seamlines. It allows for feathering along a defined irregular boundary rather than the hardline you see here. See the following web page: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//009s00000042000000.htm

Stephen, I sometime see this error when all the bands are in the original image and you are trying to make a 3 band image from the 7 band image. I would norrmally suggest putting the data into a mosaic and then running the Extract Bands function. See the following help file http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//009t0000004t000000 If you do have mutliple single bands then again I would suggest using a mosaic but using the Composite bands function. See the following help file: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Composite_Bands_function/009t0000004q000000/ Cheers Gordon

G'day Harriet, There is a really good discusion around managing imagery collections at the following web page: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//009t000001vr000000. It discusses multi-bit dept imagery and multi-resolution imagery. The recommended work flow is to create a mosaic for each source of image formatd and then combine them together in a derived mosaic dataset containing three bands. This one will be used to provide the best color imagery combination for all input images. Hope this helps Gordon

Hello Jeff, This is probably the one part of setting up mobile for iOS or Windows Phone that is the least well documented that I have found. However, here is a good example of a JSON with pop-ups http://www.arcgis.com/sharing/content/items/e90771d06b484f78a1d4fc205f707776/data?f=pjson I think this is an area where ESRI needs better documentation. If you missing one comma or bracket then the JSON will not work Cheers Gordon

Hello Kirk, ArcGIS Image Extension is an extension to ArcGIS Server that is designed to serve mosiacs. Please do not confuse Image Extension with Image Server. Image Server was it's own product at 9.3.1. In version 10 the majority of the functionality has been built into mosaics and Image Extesion is designed to serve these mosiacs. Hence all the documentation has moved from the Image Extension to the Mosaics. I think you will find this quite comprehensive. Mosaics leave the imagery on the disk but create a mosaic dataset in a geodatabase. A geodatabse can be in ArcSDE or a file geodatabase. Stored in the mosiac in the geodatabase are references to the images, Footprints of the images, Boundaries of the images and reference to the overviews which are created by the mosaic format which give the mosaic it's speed. A good reference point to start to understand the mosic format can be found at: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/What_is_a_mosaic_dataset/009t00000037000000/ Once you have completed building your mosaic it is then a matter of serving the mosiac from ArcGIS server unsing the Image Extension. I hope this helps Regards Gordon

G'day Curt, Usually this is an option in ArcMAP. Go to Customize->ArcMap Options. Select the Raster tab then the Raster Layer tab. Set the Stretch Type to None. Now open a new ArcMap Document and then add your mosiac. You should fins the stetch is back to normal. Cheers Gordon

Hello, ArcGIS Mobile for Windows 10.0, Related Tables question. We have a client who is performing inspections in the field. The inspections occur over a period of three months on the same site each time. Each time an inspection is performed a new attribute record needs to be created. The ideal fit for such a solution is to create a primary geometric feature class and then create a relationship class to an attribute table. This then enables a new set of records to be created for each inspection. I configured a relationship class in the geodatabase to link to the primary geometric feature. I configured the domains that go along with the attribute table. It was then incorporated into a web and mobile service. When I get to the mobile project centre, I cannot seem to access the related tables. From reading it appears that related tables are not supported by the ArcGIS Mobile for Windows solution at 10.0. Is this the case? If so has anyone found a solution for related tables in ArcGIS Mobile for Windows? Cheers Gordon

Hi, I am using the findAndReplaceWorkspacePaths for ArcSDE databases in mxd's in a series of folders to update the 3 teir connections to Direct connections. The command I am using is: mxd.findAndReplaceWorkspacePaths(find_workspace_path=r"", replace_workspace_path=r"C:\Temp\arcsde_DIRECT.sde") This works fine if I want to replace all the connections in the MXD. I have the situation though where I have multiple people make mods to the mxd's and have the following list of connections strings: C:\Documents and Settings\Fred\Application Data\ESRI\ArcCatalog\Direct_vector.sde C:\Documents and Settings\Fred\Application Data\ESRI\ArcCatalog\Direct_raster.sde C:\Documents and Settings\Johnathon\Application Data\ESRI\ArcCatalog\Direct_vector.sde SERVER=production;INSTANCE=port:5152;USER=Johnathon; Connections 1,3,4 are all the same database while 2 is a different database. Is there a way I can wildcard search for the direct_vector.sde (1,3,4) connection without Explicitly stating the path? For example: mxd.findAndReplaceWorkspacePaths(find_workspace_path=r"*\ArcCatalog\Direct_vector.sde", replace_workspace_path=r"C:\Temp\arcsde_DIRECT.sde") and how can I use the findAndReplaceWorkspacePaths to update the 4th connection? Cheers Gordon
