SharePoint Online brings the power of SharePoint to organizations who don’t want the overhead of managing SharePoint infrastructure. Now with the availability of Esri Maps for SharePoint Online, you can view your SharePoint list data and ArcGIS Online layers on maps within your SharePoint Online site. To get started, there are two apps you will want to add to your SharePoint Online site: Esri Maps for SharePoint will allow you to add maps to your SharePoint Online site. Adding maps to your site will allow you to gain a geospatial view of your organization's data. Add dynamic maps to your SharePoint site to help you monitor asset locations or analyze your business data visually and gain new insights that aren’t visible in charts or graphs. You can then publish your maps to ArcGIS Online to share with others. Esri Locate Workflow for SharePoint will convert addresses in your lists to points on a map. If you want your lists to show up on the map web parts you create using the Esri Maps for SharePoint app, you will need to geoenable them using this app. For more information, including installation instructions and full documentation, head over to our doc site. As with all apps that are a part of ArcGIS, you will need an ArcGIS account to use them. For a free trial account we can take care of you right here.

Mariela - have you tried installing the Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office (linked above)? I believe the 2010 installer should work for you as well.

There currently isn't a way to export directly to PDF. However, we do provide the capability to copy an image of the map to the Windows clipboard. This image can then be pasted into something else, such as an email or Word doc. In version 3.0 (release candidate available on the beta community) you can find this 'Copy map' button on the map ribbon.

Participate in the beta release for the next version of Esri Maps for Office 3.0. This new version will make it even easier to map your Excel data and work with maps in many new ways. For example, you can add multiple maps to your spreadsheet, change the coordinate system for your maps, float the maps outside the Excel window, and much more. We’ve also listened to your feedback from the Tech Preview program. We've made the map tools easier to find by adding a ribbon to your maps and fixed many of the bugs and known limitations of the tech preview. Here is a list of new features and enhancements that you get to explore in the Beta version: Add multiple maps and display them side by side to compare data from multiple worksheets. Know how many credits your map will consume. The new ‘add data’ workflow helps you understand what type of map you’re going to create and how many credits it will cost before you create the map. More coordinate systems. Add basemaps and data in any of the coordinate systems supported by the ArcGIS API. Map line features. Custom location types include mapping line features. Minimize or collapse maps. Get maps out of the way when you are focusing on other things in your spreadsheet. Drag maps outside the Excel window and to secondary monitors. Scroll through your Excel data more easily while keeping maps visible. Access tools inside the map window where you need them most. Tools on the map include select features, change basemap, and a new tool for points of interest search. Join the Beta program on the Esri Beta Community.

We've had discussions about this internally on the Maps for Office team. I agree that the ideal behavior would be to update the legend on data update. The concern is that implementing this behavior could create performance problems. We will continue looking at it and if we can do it, we will. Thanks for the feedback.

Unfortunately it is not possible to edit an existing feature service in Maps for Office. However, if you originally shared the layer from Maps for Office you can update it from the add-in.

I'm excited to announce we are opening the Tech Preview program for Esri Maps for Office 3.0! To check it out, sign up on our beta community here: http://bit.ly/EsriMapsForOffice3 There are many updates to Esri Maps for Office in this release. Some of the notable changes are: It's easier to work with your maps. We've added the ability to add multiple maps, to pop-out maps into floating windows, to minimize maps, to collapse maps, to tile maps, and to 'go to' maps that you can't find - all in an effort to make working with maps a much better experience. It's easier to add data. We've re-worked the add data workflow to make it quicker and easier to get your spreadsheet data on the map. The add data workflow begins as soon as you add a map to your spreadsheet. You are presented with map styling options so you can preview what your map will look like before you make it, and adding the map is as simple as clicking the thumbnail you want. Support for more coordinate systems. When you are adding data to a map using coordinates, you have many more options to specify which coordinate system your data are in. Being stuck with WGS84 and Web Mercator is a thing of the past! We look forward to hearing what you think about the new version. This is an early look at software that is in development, but we think there is a lot to be excited about. Let us know what you think! Scott

That's correct, you'll need a hosted server to use most of the Maps for Office functionality.

Hi - I'm a product engineer on the Maps for Office dev team. Just saw your question and passed it along to some of the other folks on the team that are more familiar with Portal. According to them, it sounds like "the Portal this user is connecting to is not configured with a dedicated hosted server. As I do not see that in his description. Also we show these messages when we could not identify a hosted server configured in the Portal." You can find more information about configuring hosting servers at the following help link: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.2/index.html#//017s0000006n000000 Let me know if this helps! Ok, so I heard back from the dev team. It sounds like it is a problem with the auto-update check, as you suspected. If you go into the Excel backstage area (File > Esri Maps) and uncheck 'Check for updates,' that should hopefully fix your problem for the time being. We've already made the code fix in the upcoming 3.0 beta version of the product, so future versions should be ok. Let me know if this takes care of it or if you continue to see crashing. Thanks!

Andrew - we are aware of the intermittent crashing issues but it's been very hard to consistently reproduce. Thanks for including the event log; I've passed it along to the dev team to see if it helps them track down the problem.

Hi - thanks for your question. Maps for Office does not support anonymous access. What is the use case you are looking to support? Just wondering how you'd use it because I'm interested in taking your requirements back to the team for consideration. Thanks, Scott

We are pleased to announce the release of Esri Maps for Office 2.1.3. Our Portal users will be happy to hear that we??ve added support for LDAP authentication. We also vastly improved our implementation of PKI authentication. Another new feature is support for ArcGIS custom roles. With custom roles, you can better manage the privileges of people in your organization. To find out more about custom role support in Maps for Office, see our configuration help page. Also, we tracked down the issue that caused Maps for Office to crash when disconnected from the internet. It??s fixed! Here is the full list of improvements in this release: Support for custom roles. New silent install parameters allow for better control over large scale deployments. Maps for Office now checks for connectivity to ArcGIS and notifies you when necessary services are unavailable. Bug fixes and usability improvements, including: Ability to use hosted map services as custom location types. Commas as decimal separators are now handled properly. Layer visibility issues in localized versions have been corrected. Random crashing issues caused by older versions of Visual Studio Tools for Office have been fixed. Custom locators are now shown using their name instead of ??Address?? in the add data workflow. Better registry management on uninstall. When connected to a Portal, requests to ArcGIS Online are no longer made. Enriched layers can now be styled and grouped by the newly added columns. Popups for enriched layers now display correct column headings. When disconnected from the internet, crashing no longer occurs. Esri Maps for Office in PowerPoint now honors the default basemap in your organization. To download the app, watch how-to videos, or get help for Esri Maps for Office, see the app page at http://doc.arcgis.com/en/maps-for-office/.

Hi everybody, I'm using the Esri Map for Office to create the layer that will indicate the unemploy rate for each states. But when I'm doing it just shows just only one color (green). Can I change the color for each state ? For example: Alabama is pink, New York is blue...etc... Please help me !!!!! Best Regards, Phuong Nguyen Hi - Take a look at the 1:25 mark of this video. I think the grouping that is performed on the Sales Summary layer is similar to what you're trying to do. Thanks, Scott

Holly - Currently Esri Maps for Office supports connections to ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS. If you want to be able to publish to a local server, your option is to use Portal for ArcGIS. You can find more information at the 'what is Portal for ArcGIS' documentation page. Hope this helps! Scott
