Hi guys - Believe it or not you can use the edges to move the map and corners to re-size the map. Your cursor has to be within the dark grey border area. Unfortunately the cursor icon doesn't change to let you know you're in the right spot, so for now you just have to use trial and error to find the right spot. We recognize this lack of visual feedback combined with very small "grabbing" area is frustrating and we are already working on fixing this issue for the next release. Thanks for your feedback, I hope this helps! Scott

We are pleased to announce the release of Esri Maps for Office 2.1.2. Esri Maps for Office is a powerful add-in for Microsoft Office that brings the capabilities of the ArcGIS platform to Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. Esri Maps for Office is available with an ArcGIS Online subscription and makes use of the extensive repository of available geographic information as well as the significant sharing, searching, and collaboration capabilities in ArcGIS Online. This version includes the following bug fixes and usability improvements: Enrich Layer tool improvements, such as: more efficient memory usage to handle larger enrichment requests and an improved progress indicator. Fixed a bug that caused Excel to crash after installation of Esri Maps. Fixed a bug that displayed incorrect images in the Search pane. Fixed a bug that caused custom location type lookups to fail in Japanese, Russian, and Chinese languages. Cleaned up localized strings for Key Facts, Wealth, Policy, and Health on the Search pane. To download the app, watch how-to videos, or get help for Esri Maps for Office, see the app page at http://doc.arcgis.com/en/maps-for-office/.

I changed my Add-in settings in the Trust Center settings to match yours (Require Application Add-ins to be signed: ON, Disable notification for unsigned add-ins: ON, Disable all Application Add-ins: OFF) and the Esri Maps toolbar works just fine for me. I'm able to sign in, insert a map, etc. I don't think this is your issue. I do believe the issue is with your ArcGIS Connection in the Esri Maps backstage. Are you trying to connect to a Portal for ArcGIS server or are you trying to connect to ArcGIS Online?

Hi Scott - Are you trying to connect Maps for Office to Portal for ArcGIS? If so, I suspect something may not be configured correctly in Portal (and unfortunately Portal config is outside my realm of knowledge). If you're not trying to connect to a Portal, change the ArcGIS Connection to http://www.arcgis.com in the Esri Maps backstage area (File > Esri Maps). The only time you should really change the ArcGIS Connection is when you connect to a Portal. Hope this helps with your troubleshooting, Scott

Hi Scott - Is it possible for you to contact support about this issue? From a dev perspective, it really helps if we are able to see all the issues with our product when they are collected in one place. Support is really good about detailing steps to reproduce the issue and we regularly get reports about which issues are being experienced the most. This helps us focus in on where the problem areas really are. Forum posts don't get collected in the same way necessarily, so if you could log an incident that would help us out a lot - not to mention it would probably be the fastest way to get your problem solved. Thanks! Scott

Any update on this? Im doing a Corporate presentation on Maps for Office for our city staff and it just keeps crashing out on me? Same situation 64 bit Win7 and 32bit Office2010. Fresh install of 2.1.1 Powerpoint allows me to sign in, but after re-install Excel still crashes, all options under the esri tab remain greyed out with no option to sign in. Hi Shaun - Have you previously used Maps for Office, or is this the first time you've tried to install it on that particular computer? I ask because we have identified some problems regarding upgrades. In particular, previously saved custom location types were causing errors in the upgrade for some users. This issue has been fixed and will be included in version 2.1.2 which we will be releasing in the coming weeks. I'm not familiar with issues related to first-time installs. You may want to contact support to work through those issues if this is indeed a brand new installation. Scott

Hi Oscar - great question! If you are simply mapping XY coordinates that are already in the spreadsheet, nothing is being sent to ArcGIS Online (AGOL). The pop-ups are being created from the local information in the spreadsheet - not anything on AGOL. However if you don't have XY coordinates - for example, you may only have addresses - the address information will be sent to AGOL for geocoding (the process of converting addresses to XY coordinates). Also, during the Add Excel Data workflow a few records (10, I believe) will be sent to AGOL to determine where your data are located. This is done so the appropriate fields can be displayed in the workflow window. Because confidentiality is required for your use case, you may want to avoid geocoding addresses. You may want to look into Portal for ArcGIS. Portal allows you to perform many of the ArcGIS Online functions on premises, behind your firewall. If you share any of your maps or layers using the share buttons, a copy of your information will be sent to AGOL. You can limit visibility to users within your organization if you wish, but your information will be stored online. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! Scott

Hi, thanks for the additional feedback regarding this problem. We believe we have identified the issue in the installer and we are working to provide an updated software package. We don't have a release date at the moment but it shouldn't be long.

We are pleased to announce the release of Esri Maps for SharePoint 3.0.1. Esri Maps for SharePoint supports Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and 2013 and offers interactive and configurable mapping components that can give you a geospatial view of your organization??s data. The ability to visualize and interact with data through maps can be extraordinarily beneficial, as it has the power to reveal larger patterns and trends that can lead to better insights and more informed decisions. Key new features of Esri Maps for SharePoint 3.0.1 include the following: Localization support for 21 languages: Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Danish, Dutch, Estonian, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Latvian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Portuguese (Brazilian), Romanian, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish. Support for custom location types in the Esri Maps Locate workflow. This enables users to create color coded maps using any region (e.g. a map of profit by sales territory). Geostatistical hot spot analysis. Unlike simple heat maps, Hot Spot analysis allows users to identify the statistically significant outliers in their data on a map. Check out the Esri Maps for SharePoint site on ArcGIS.com for information on getting started, how to download, and getting help using the product. If you have specific questions or issues, be sure to take advantage of the Esri Maps for SharePoint forum to get help from the Esri user community. Additionally, Esri Support Services is available as a personalized support option. Thanks, ~The Esri Maps for SharePoint team

Hi Heath, thanks for bringing this to our attention. Our QA team is attempting to reproduce this issue. In the meantime, have you tried to uninstall Esri Maps for Office and re-install it? It sounds like you attempted to upgrade directly from 2.1 to 2.1.1 (a workflow we support); perhaps you might have better luck uninstalling first. Let me know if this helps or if you still experience the issue. Also - does the user attempting to complete the install have administrator permissions on the computer with Esri Maps for Office?

Hi HydroDog! Unfortunately there isn't a way to force popups to stay open in Maps for Office. Interesting use case though. I will pass it along to the team to see if it is something we can implement in the future. Thanks for the feedback and letting us know how you are using Maps for Office! Scott

Hi - This issue is due to a known bug which will be fixed in the coming weeks. In the meantime, there is a workaround to get the Find Hot Spot tool to become enabled. Use the 'Share Layer' button to share a layer to ArcGIS Online. This creates a hosted feature service. Once the layer has been shared successfully (the layer will have a green check mark next to it when it has published successfully), sign out of Maps for Office and sign back in. The Find Hot Spot button should now be enabled. Thanks, Scott

Hi folks - Thanks for all the feedback throughout this thread. These comments have kicked off internal discussions about prioritization of future development work for Maps for Office. We are hearing that the performance of polygon-based layers needs to be improved and we will be working on that. We don't have any specifics to announce right now, but we are listening and your comments are directly helping to make the product better. Thanks again, Scott
