We are currently working on a solution to this problem. One possible workaround is to choose another field (or collection of fields) to be used as the Unique Identifier of the query layer when the query layer is created. Hope this helps, -Brent

MLF, What field types are being returned from the query which defines the query layer? If the resultset which is returned from the query does not have a spatial column the spatial properties will be greyed out in a similar fashion to the graphic you attached to your earlier post. -Brent

You should always be able to specify a spatial reference in the advanced options page of the New Query Layer dialog. When validating the query the advanced properties such as spatial reference are determined. If any of these properties could not be determined these properties must be specified before the Query Layer is created. You can always change the advanced properties by selecting the ??Show advanced options? checkbox on the New Query Layer dialog and then selecting ??Next >?. Hope this helps, -Brent

Layers in ArcGIS only support a single spatial field in the definition of the layer. This applies to ??Spatial Views? which were created through the ArcSDE Command Line Tools as well as Query Layers manifested as feature layers created through ArcGIS Desktop. When creating a Query Layer, the result set returned from the query can only have a single spatial field. With that being said, multiple spatial fields can still be used in the where clause of the query which defines the query layer. In this scenario, the spatial fields referenced in the where clause are used to restrict the rows returned from the query and will not be included in the fields (result set) returned to the query layer. Hope this helps, -Brent

Ted, We can't reproduce the issues you are running into with the tree view. Could you be a little more specific about the workflow you are following to change the version in Map? As for the filtering of the tree view. The tree view displays the hierarchy of all the versions in the geodatabase. If some versions are filtered out of the tree view this parent/child view of the versions does not really make sense. For this reason we did not provide the ability to filter when viewing the tree view of the versions in the geodatabase. Hope this helps, -Brent

Ted, The reconcile order tab will only display the versions that are preventing the Default version from being fully compressed. If you reconcile the listed versions in the order specified a more effective compress of the geodatabase should be able to be achieved. Hope this helps, -Brent

Vytautas, The Version Lineage Viewing capabilities are not part of ArcGIS 10.1. Instead of allowing one to see the version lineage which had scalability issues for large versioned geodatabases, what we did at 10.1 was to provide more information about the versioned geodatabase. We really tried to understand was why one needed to see the version lineage and provide that information in a more direct way for geodatabase administrators. The key areas where this information is provided is: Verbose logging in the Reconcile Versions GP Tool Recommended reconcile order now available in the Versions Tab of the Geodatabase Administration Dialog Recommended reconcile order now exposed as a reconcile option in the Reconcile Versions GP Tool Hope this helps, -Brent

Tim, I hope I am understanding your workflow and goal correctly but if you navigate to the specific moment in time you want to backup in ArcMap you should be able to use the layer as input into the Feature Class to Feature Class GP Tool to copy the archived representation of the Feature Class to another data source. Alternatively, you can right click on the Feature Layer in the ArcMap Table of Contents and select Data>Export to export the archived representation. Hope this helps, -Brent

Sabita, If you Open the Geodatabase in ArcCatalog you should be able to right click on the feature class or table in question and select "register as versioned". Once the class is versioned you should be able to start a versioned edit session on the class in desktop. Hope this helps, -Brent

Yes, we are also working on providing a better error message when these tools fail. 99999 is only really useful if it's your bank account balance. 😄

Vytautas, We are working to address issues with the Delete Rows/Features tools when executed against database tables for a future beta release. In the mean time, you should be able to use the Truncate Table GP Tool (Data Management Tools Toolbox > Table Toolset) to truncate the table in the database. Hope this helps, -Brent

Jason, From the error you are encountering it would suggest ArcGIS is having trouble locating or connecting to the SQL Server database server. What connection properties are you using to make the connection in ArcGIS? -Brent

Mike, Thanks for your intrest in this new functionality. The answer is yes, these tools will work on a Geodatabase on SQL Server Express. One thing to keep in mind, some functionality on the Geodatabase Administration Dialog will only be available if you are connected as the geodatabase administrator. Thanks for the feedback and questions. -Brent Esri

Hi Mike, We are also working on a project for our next release which concentrates on providing better tools for the Enterprise Geodatabase administrator. More specifically, we are going to allow administrators to see and disconnect connected users (both Direct Connect and Application Server) and also see what users currently have locks in the system. This will all be provided through a user interface in ArcGIS as well as scripting options provided through Python. Hope this helps, -Brent
