This sounds like it may be to do with how the intersect tool works. It depends on what geometries you are trying to intersect, these variables produce different results that follow intersection rules which you can find below. If you are trying to create a point feature where two or more polygons intersect, you have to bear in mind the output type you assign in the intersect tool as well as the intersect rule. ArcGIS Help (10.2, 10.2.1, and 10.2.2) I hope this helps...

Are you looking for pipeline data itself or the data you may use for routing? Such as a DEM, obstructions etc... It is difficult to get hold of pipeline data for free, I have found. Only quite coarse data for smaller scale viewing is readily available. But if you're in the US have a look at the following for pipeline location data. GIS Data: Global Maps and Geospatial - Platts MapSearch - GIS Data Maps, Energy Maps, Atlases & Wall Maps for Energy Industry

Hi Fionn, Have you had a look at http://www.georepository.com ? This is quite a good site to find out the CRS of a given area. For the area you describe I found the following possible projection: North Pole Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area (Europe) with WGS84 / North Pole LAEA Europe as an applicable CRS. I believe this is a valid projection for the world at latitudes of 45 degrees and above. Simon

Thanks...but I am conducting a process where I have shapefiles that I am joining to a CSV table. Then to make the join permanent I am using the copy tool. Whenever I do this it uses the orginal filename from the shapefile and adds "_CopyFeature" to it. Within Model Builder I cannot see how to copy the shapefile to the geodatabase without the "_CopyFeature"

Hello, Is it possible when using the copy features tool in model builder to copy the features over to the default geodatabase without the suffix "_CopyFeatures" being added to the resulting feature class? Cheers,

It would be nice to see them available as a style file for download and possibly as another option downloadable as EMF so, if one wanted, editing is easy. Have you tried contacting ESRI at their mapping centre? They maybe able to help you distribute them through ESRI...

Have a look at this link http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/21180 and see if you can print to PDF. If you can do that you can open the PDF in Illustrator. I have had to do this before but because I only had 10s items it was quicker to drawn them manually in Illustrator! It would be good if ESRI could add an export STYLE feature where you can export to Illustrator. Hope that helps

A quick fix is to convert to graphics and move the features. This is only a temporary solution and if you need to edit it in the future you'd need a better fix. You can also play around with the scale or line thickness and other features in the symbology tab...I have had a similar issue when drawing thrust fault lines where the thrusts symbols (a solid triangle on a line) detatch a look silly.

This is a good point...I do not know of a watermarking system in ArcGIS...I would normally manually add an annotation or in the layout view some text (e.g. 48pt, bold red). But as I am sure you know having to set this up for Nth map will be silly. You could explore this site http://arcscripts.esri.com/scripts.asp?pg=1&sb=1&ob=asc&eDate=&n=&top=&eLang=6&eProd=28&perPage=10&eQuery=stamp&Submit2=search where you can stamp a map with a watermark usiong ArcObjects I hope this helps. I dot think it would be nice for ESRI to add this feature to ArcMap in a similar way that Adobe have there watermark feature in Acrobat.

Equally, if your not working within the USA...similar differences can be found with Google. Imagery with Bing for Iraq and Iran is not so good (only getting imagery to 1:60000) but surprisingly Google Maps is excellent where even in the rural Zagros mountains I can see individual outcrops and camp sites. It all depend on what you want and where and researching where the best free data is and utilising it (just make sure you reference where the data has come from!)

Within ArcMap there are also the symbols "Petroleum" and "Petroleum UK" I would also suggest USGS site http://geology.er.usgs.gov/eespteam/vtp/symbols.html and ESRI Geologic Template http://resources.arcgis.com/gallery/file/map-templates/details?entryID=6AA281F3-1422-2418-8825-C44631AFA8EE and http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=bb02aa75305f40ff87fb6106aa297da9 Hopefully you'll get some more symbols from these...

I am looking to label points on a map however the text is rather long and when put onto a stand label in ArcMap is very long and not very good looking. Is there a way of putting a return in the middle (or after a specified number of characters) of a text field using the VB Script in the labels tab of a layers properties? Thanks for any help!
