Thanks Rex - very helpful info. I'll mention the Unity/Unreal support for the Runtime SDK was defiantly the star of the show for our Dev group. A whole bunch of interest in that one for both work and personal projects 🙂 Is there a spot on GeoNet or point of contact we should direct folks to for more information and updates on the game engine Runtime and future betas?

Hi Gang - great job from the Runtime team on the Dev Summit Plenary live stream this morning! Since the dev summit is virtual and very little info is available at this point I guess I'm going to post my questions here. Can we get an update on expected Metal support for iOS? There was talk a while back about SDK level support for external GNSS devices. Is that still a thing? Any update or progress made on support for GoTenna mesh radios? This was a demo from the Qt folks last year and something we have been working on adding to our apps (on the back burner though). Will there be a way to do a road-ahead session for Runtime this year? Those are my personal favorite and honestly a huge reason I go to the Dev Summit in the first place.

Totally off topic - but how did I never notice that OSM has little dog-prints when you zoom in on a dog park? +1 OSM... Your move ESRI!

Like I said, it might not be a particularly valid use case but here's an example: We have a construction monitoring app for a large port construction project. This includes a huge number of map layers for each utility, layout, basemap, etc... Rather than present them with a giant layer list to manage we present a table of contents with "fake" AGSFeatureLayers that we might name "Potable Water" or "Topo". When users tap on a layer we might toggle a whole group on/off but also might re-set some definition queries or kick off other activity. As I'm typing this I've just discovered that AGSGroupLayer is a thing and has been since 100.5. This looks like it might do 90% of what we are looking for.... so never mind --- cary on! 🙂

It is possible to keep the init function for AGSFeatureLayer around? Or baring that, is there an actual time line to remove it? I find creating empty AGSFeatureLayers to be occasionally useful when I need to do some fancy footwork with "behind the scenes" data layers that I don't want exposed to the app user. I know that's not probably a super valid use case but it has come in super handy on a couple of occasions.

I logged an enhancement request with ESRI through our support dashboard last spring to add support for the new-ish iOS file browser. Once enabled you would be able to browse the local database files in Collector and email/iMessage/dropbox/sharepoint/etc... them off the device thereby getting around USB/firewall restrictions. Last I checked it was slated for consideration but no idea if when it might happen. It's a shame too because it's literally as simple as adding one line to a .plist file in the Xcode project and it would make so many things easier on users.

Is there a mechanism available to set the label color for a feature class to SystemDefault or one of the other dark mode-aware system colors? If not is there a way to update the label definition to switch colors when traitCollectionDidChange is fired? I've wired up some of our apps to automatically switch to the dark vector map when users toggle on dark mode, but unfortunately it makes the labels unreadable.

When you need to support a very specific field data collection workflow, or if you are finding that the out-of-the-box ESRI tools aren't quite meeting your needs you might consider a custom data collection app using the Runtime SDK. We've created several apps for situations where Collector just wasn't quite right, including when field crews needed to draw freehand polygons. It's a bit more effort to get things up and running, but depending on the need the time saved might be more than worth it. Collector is trying to meet the needs of the widest range of people, there will always be outlier workflows or edge cases where it just isn't the right fit.

We have tested pretty extensively with a Xiaomi Mi8 and the Collector Beta - and no, despite verifying that L5 signals are in use there is no real improvement in accuracy so far. We've been testing on and off for a couple of years now whenever a major Android update rolls in. At this point I'm fairly convinced dual-frequency GNSS on mobile isn't really going to live up to the marketing hype from the chipmakers and manufacturers.

I'll preface this by saying that we experienced endless frustration with attachments in our own apps and have pretty much abandoned the use of them entirely in favor of an alternate upload workflow combined with a standalone database table for documenting photos and associated data. That said I'd try a couple of things: Up the max upload size on your server - I know you said the photos were only 2mb but was that before they were serialized? Guessing the files are getting a lot larger when you do that. Perhaps consider writing the metadata to as EXIF data rather than using the serialized txt approach. That is exactly what EXIF data is for...

I use AGSViewpoint to get the current extent of the map: AGSViewpoint *viewpoint = [AGSViewpoint viewpointWithTargetExtent:self.mapView.visibleArea.extent rotation:self.mapView.rotation]; Once you have that I think you can get the center point using viewpoint.targetGeometry.extent.center.x and viewpoint.targetGeometry.extent.center.y

Ahh I see - The way we avoid that is by making the assignment of viewpointChangedHandler the very last thing we do in the setup of the map. We load the map, zoom to any previously stored viewpoint, set up basemap and base layers, reconstitute any definition queries we might have... and then set the handler. This seems to have minimized that sort of premature activity for us.

We use the viewpointChangedHandler to trigger a redraw of our scale bar as well as stashing the viewpoint in NSUserDefaults. Have to go Viewpoint->JSON->NSDictionary to get it in there but it is handy way to have the last viewpoint available if the app is closed in the background, or if we destroy the map view and want to reconstitute it later. I haven't noticed a huge issue with it triggering for non-pan/zoom activities. It happens but doesn't really impact performance in any major way. I guess if we were so inclined we could compare the extent of the saved viewpoint with the current viewpoint and only update if different.

Did a manual download of the 100.6 install .pkg this morning to use with the AR Sample project and got the following: FYI if you go into Settings->Security & Privacy->General it will show an option to open anyway. once you chose that option you will get a new version of this popup with an "Open" option. This whole untrusted developer workflow seems to have changed a bit with Catalina and threw me for a bit of a loop. I generally install via CocoaPods so this might be par for the course and I'm just out of the loop?

Any chance we can get the most excellent Navigation (Dark Mode) vector basemap added to AGSBasemap as .navigationVectorDarkMode or similar? I know .streetsNightVectorBasemap exists but I think I like Navigation (Dark Mode) (https://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=459cc334740944d38580455a0a777a24) a little bit more 🙂 Hadn't really planned to spend my fall updating all our apps to support Dark Mode... but here we are!
