Hello J Yes, if you write a standalone Python script that imports arcpy and the Data Interoperability extension and imports/adds your toolbox, you can execute the tool from a command shell. This is the same workflow as any other geoprocessing functionality called from a command line. Regards

Hello Chris If you want to preserve your attribute schema within a KML file, use the Data Interoperability extension to export to KML (the Quick Export tool will do it). The core tool Layer to KML will output a single description field with HTML, which cannot be imported back into ArcGIS with any schema. Regards

Hi ArcPy recordsets (and featuresets) can be converted to and from JSON using the .JSON and .AsShape methods, so that part is easy, within a script or model embedding a script. You can geocode a recordset (treat it like a table in other words) or load it into an in_memory table to geocode it. If you are using ArcGIS Online there is a REST endpoint for batch geocoding, but don't go down that track unless you need to. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/arcgis-online-geocoding-rest-api/ Regards

Hi Regexes are a wormhole you might not want to dive into. The canonical approach to geocoding an array of addresses would be to write them into a table (a text file is OK, provided it has recognised delimiters and header) and geocode the table. Regards

Hi Mike You can't work with shapefiles and the cartographic representation tools. In the attached Python script is code that calculates the azimuth change at vertices along any line, you may be able to extract what you need from the approach. Regards

Hi There are no ArcPy methods to access the run-time properties of a locator, but if the locator is file-system based then you could write code that changed properties in the .loc file - which is ASCII. Regards

Hello All Coincident with ArcGIS 10.1 SP1, the on-line geocoding locators visible to ArcGIS for Desktop were replaced by the new World service. Batch geocoding using the World service requires an ArcGIS Online subscription and will consume credits: http://geocode.arcgis.com/arcgis/index.html#/Batch_geocoding/02q000000004000000/ The old locators used prior to SP1 are currently still accessible at the URL described in the KB article 36444, but will go offline at some point in 2013: http://tasks.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services You may add these locators back into your Desktop UI using the attached DefaultLocators.xml file (back up your current copy first). Why has Esri made this change? We have built the World service in partnership with data partners; you will appreciate it takes considerable resource to capture and maintain the world's address information and build it into reliable high quality web services. Batch geocoding consumes millions of transactions daily here at Esri; we cannot absorb the rapidly growing cost of global demand for this, but we will continue to support free map navigation and address inspection using geocoding locators we host. Esri also ships free geocoding locators for the US in the Data & Maps media that ships with ArcGIS, and of course we also supply locator definition files for the US, so you are able to make locators using your own data sources. We hope you understand our situation with respect to batch geocoding, if you have any further questions please contact our support team or your account representative at Esri. Regards
