Hi Bret, What if we don't have an implementation of ArcGIS Server yet?  Is there still a way to use the Bing Maps, or is it now only available to licensed ArcGIS users? If you don't have an ArcGIS Server license, you will have to contact Microsoft directly to obtain a Bing Maps key. Hi Donald, I just tested and was able to successfully add and use the Light Gray Canvas (LGC) base map in the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex application builder. Note that when you add it under the Maps tab, it will appear as 2 items in the "selected basemaps" list (see figure 1), one for the features and one for the labels. And I can see the LGC basemap fine when I preview the app under the Preview tab. Perhaps you accidentally deleted one of the LGC tiled service items in the "selected basemaps" list? Hi Bret, As of March 31, 2012, the Bing Maps Token Service has been retired by Microsoft. Users who want to use Bing maps will need to get their own Bing Maps key. From the ArcGIS Server help documentation: "The Bing Maps key information is retrieved from your ArcGIS Server authorization file. If you receive a message that your key is not found or corrupt, please contact ESRI Customer Service to ensure that your authorization file is valid and includes access to Bing Maps." Hi Dave, ... I have added a new BaseMap map service on (http://otgis:8399/arcgis/rest/services/MapService/BaseMapping/MapServer) I tried to access this map service, but was unable to connect/view it. Assuming this service is supposed to be publicly available, have you tried to view this service using the ArcGIS.com Viewer or ArcGIS Explorer Online? If not, then something's amiss with its public access capability and I would check with your IT group - perhaps a firewall or security setting is blocking access to the service. Also, try installing Firebug or some other web browser monitoring application - it can help to diagnose your problem. Hope this helps, ... View more

Hi Joanne, The time slider Dev sample is designed to work off the selected layer in map contents side panel. So if the time-aware layer isn�??t the one selected when the application loads, then the tool is not going to be enabled. It should enable when you select it, though. Also, please keep in mind this is a Dev sample ... it should work in most cases, but there's always the potential for odd behavior in some cases. Hi Berhanu, Based on your comments, this sounds like a "firewall/security access" issue. Your ArcGIS Server web services cannot be accessed by web clients outside of your intranet domain. I would check with your IT systems folks to verify if they can be accessed externally (e.g., outside of your intranet domain). Hope this helps, ... View more
