Hi Daniel, In short, why does ArcGIS server copy my mxd and create the msd in the arcgissystem\arcgisinput\ folder? is there a way to change this and just have one copy of the mxd or am i forced to run the overwrite service workflow? As you discovered, ArcGIS 10.1 for Server keeps its own copies of the MXD, MSD, and SD for each service at this location. Note that these files aren't meant for you to modify. They're used internally by the server. If you make changes to your source MXD, you need to go through the publishing wizard again but choose the option to "Overwrite an existing service". Please review this help topic: Overwriting a service in ArcGIS for Desktop. If you registered your data locations, then no data copying will occur during the overwrite. It will only overwrite the server's copy of the MXD. Hope this helps,

Hi Jamal, ... For example, my data has the Palestine Grid 1923 and I wanted the Silverlight to be the same. ... Is that possible? By default, the ArcGIS Viewer for Silverlight uses basemaps in its basemap gallery from ArcGIS Online. These are displayed using Web Mercator. Web Apps built with the Silverlight Viewer will typically have its data content displayed in Web Mercator, unless you choose to use a different basemap - which is possible. In your case, if you want to use a custom projection, simply reference your own custom basemap with the desired custom projection in the Silverlight Viewer. More info here: Configuring basemaps . Hope this helps,

Hi Wu, I believe what Jeff meant was that if you supply the connection file info when you upload the service, you should be fine. There was no implied performance issue with Server 10.1. Hope this helps,

Chris, Brian: Regarding these comments: Will there be a new version of this for ArcGIS 10.1? Or better yet, make it part of core. Actually, almost all of the GDBT geodatabase administrative functionality was added to core ArcGIS Desktop in 10.1. Please review this help topic, What's new for geodatabases in ArcGIS 10.1 (look under the section titled New ArcGIS tools to administer enterprise geodatabases) The only thing missing from the GDBT is the "state tree viewer" functionality. Hope this helps,

Hi Bigirimana, What do we need else to use the ArcSDE technology? Just to add onto the other responses, ArcSDE technology in multi-user geodatabases enables you to do versioning to support long editing transactions, which is very common in GIS editing workflows. Some resources: > Multiuser Functionality in geodatabases > Versioning 101 - ArcUser article Hope this helps,
