UPDATED June 2026: ArcGIS Enterprise Hardening Guide, Esri technical paper. This is great resource for implementing security best practices for enterprise GIS deployments. This document describes strategies and associated settings that can be implemented to improve the security posture of ArcGIS Enterprise deployments as recommended by Esri. It is designed for organizations planning a new deployment of ArcGIS Enterprise 12.0 and higher and existing deployments. This document addresses ArcGIS Enterprise security options through version 12.1. Please realize the criticality of regularly updating to the current release of ArcGIS Enterprise as cyberattacks on organizations continue to multiply. If you are not utilizing the current ArcGIS Enterprise version, please refer to the Patch Management section of this document first. ArcGIS Enterprise Hardening Guide - June 2026 You can learn more about ArcGIS security best practices from the ArcGIS Trust Center. Trust.ArcGIS.com is your go to resource for security, privacy, and compliance information.

At this time, there are no plans to enable ArcGIS Monitor to support logins using the enterprise portal identity store. This is not a good approach. The purpose of ArcGIS Monitor is to collect metrics on the system health and performance of ArcGIS Enterprise. If Monitor's logins were based on the enterprise portal identity store, then if portal were to become unavailable, this would affect Monitor. This is not a system architecture best practice. Monitor needs to be independent and separate from the components it is monitoring. So if portal were to become unavailable, Monitor would still continue to work and can inform admins the exact time when portal went offline. FYI, we do have in the Dev backlog to support alternate login authentication options such as SAML, IWA and LDAP. Hope this helps,
