Hi Nick, > ... I've always used feature datasets for feature classes that were truly related, for instance, terrain datasets, network datasets, parcel fabric, data with shared topological rulesets. ... I've avoided using datasets as my organizational pattern mainly to avoid unnecessary schema locks on an entire dataset when a user is accessing one feature class within. I completely agree with your logic and statements above. As you said, a feature dataset is a collection of related feature classes that share a common coordinate system and they are generally used to spatially integrate related feature classes. However, I suppose that while it is technically possible to use a feature dataset for organizational purposes within a geodatabase, I don't think it is necessarily a best practice - from a technical persecptive. FYI: An overview of working with feature datasets—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop I am not familiar with the Esri Local Government Model GDB schema - but I suppose they decided to use a feature dataset to aggregate feature classes thematically. Hope this helps,

Hi Nav, Just wanted to add some comments onto the great responses above: - Web AppBuilder embedded in Portal for ArcGIS 10.5 (scheduled to be released before the end of 2016) will have the same functionality that is in Web AppBuilder in ArcGIS Online (as of the Sept 2016 update); - You should only use Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS Developer Edition to work with custom widgets and themes; while it is technically possible to enable with Web AppBuilder in Portal for ArcGIS - this is not supported, nor recommended by Esri; Please review question 1 in this blog post: Clarifying 3 questions about Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS | ArcGIS Blog Hope this helps,

Hi there, Is this in the context of using the DBMS data with ArcGIS or something else? It might help if you could provide more context and details as to what exactly you want to do/what your workflow is. For example, if you're asking what DBMS platforms we support for geodatabases (the spatial data model for ArcGIS), I would start here, What is a geodatabase?—ArcGIS Help | ArcGIS for Desktop You could also work with data in a DBMS by using query layer functionality, What is a query layer?—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop Hope this helps,

Hi Tevfik, Robert Scheitlin, GISP is correct, Portal for ArcGIS 10.3 and later releases includes Web AppBuilder embedded within its home app/website and should work fine in a disconnected environment. Are you asking about using Web AppBuilder Developer Edition with a Portal for ArcGIS installation in a disconnected environment? In which case, yes - you would have to enable access to some ArcGIS API for JavaScript libraries with Developer Edition. FYI, we just published a blog post on this topic: Deploying Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS Developer Edition in a Disconnected Portal for ArcGIS Environment | ArcGIS Blog Hope this helps,

Hi Gideon, Is this a new install of Portal for ArcGIS or an upgrade? If the latter, was everything working fine previously and since the upgrade things are not working? Also, have you cleared your web browser cache? Are you using Chrome or Firefox as your web browser? We've encountered some issues with both recent web browser updates, please see this blog post for details: Announcement: Errors Encountered in ArcGIS for Server and Portal for ArcGIS Web Apps after Certain Browser Updates | Sup… Can you try the same workflow in IE? Hi Gideon, > I've set up a database which is managed by arcgis server locally for portal for arcgis however I am unable to add or delete features from a feature service I have set up. Q1. Did you set-up an enterprise geodatabase as the data source for your feature service? Q2. What release of ArcGIS Server are you using? What is the security model enabled for it? Q3. When you published the map service did you also enable feature access? > Also I am unable to upload a customs background or create a group in portal. See pics attached. I did not see any pics attached to your post. Are you sure you've installed Portal for ArcGIS correctly? Did you encounter any issues when installing/configuring? Hope this helps,

Hi Behrouz, Allow me to help clarify Jake's comment. In your 2nd screenshot showing the Select and configure capabilities section, if you click on the Feature Access text (not just check the checkbox, but click on the actual text), this will change what is displayed underneath and you should see a section called Feature Access Configuration - which should show you a REST URL and SOAP URL ending in /FeatureServer. Hope this helps,

Hi Luyang, Yes, we strongly recommend that you enable your ArcGIS Server site to be HTTPS. It is a best practice to try and make your Server site as secure as possible. In fact, starting at the 10.4 release, the default setting for ArcGIS Server's security protocol is HTTP and HTTPS.
