We recently transferred our ArcGIS Server site config-store and directories from one machine to a network DFS location and seeing some major performance issues. A bit about the architecture: Multi-tier ArcGIS Enterprise with 4 ArcGIS Servers participating in the site. Till now, we had the config-store and directories pointed to a location on one of the machines; after reading this doc we decided to move both config-store and directories to a dfs location. The ArcGIS Server account has full permissions here. You might choose to put the configuration store on a machine or disk that is not dependent on the ArcGIS Server, such as a fault-tolerant file server. After doing so, server manager is very slow to come up (~10-15 minutes to bring up services pane). 95% of services, maps, apps etc are functional but administering services is now impossible. Today I came access this esri doc where it says DFS is not supported. Choose a storage device that enables files to be read immediately from any node in your site once an operation and corresponding write has completed. This disqualifies many types of distributed file systems, such as GFS and DFS. NFS shares must be configured to ensure consistent reads and avoid using stale data caches. Is DFS not a fault tolerant file share? Do I need to request something different from my IT. Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to query all application item_types at once? For example all the item_types listed in the doc under Applications: https://developers.arcgis.com/rest/users-groups-and-items/items-and-item-types.htm I have this query to get all web mapping applications items = gis.content.search(query='owner:Test', item_type='Web Mapping Application', max_items=1000) How to change this so I can query all dashboards, web mapping applications, web experiences, etc at once?

Recently joined a new company and need some advice on their setup. Running Enterprise 1091. Currently our Analysts publish all their data as referenced (from SQL Server) with Shared Instances and Feature Access enabled - regardless of whether they will be editing data through the rest service. To me this is unnecessary as it adds additional services on our GIS Server. I'm still trying to wrap my head around shared instances though, so my question is: Does having un-needed feature access on 75% of our services negatively impact server performance?

I think you can still use hyperlinks for webmaps. You need to put your photos/docs on a web server and add the path in your attribute table. I would recommend attachments for web maps though. In general attachments are a cleaner solution, no overhead managing files on a web server, and more performant from my experience. Attachments can be viewed directly from web map popups too, I think hyperlinks always open in a new tab. I could be wrong though, it's been a few years.

I'm working on a python script to query stale users in our Portal and send out email reminders to login. Currently running ArcGIS Enterprise 1081. I'm looking for ideas on how to create test users and manually set their lastLogin date, so I can test a few different scenarios. For example find users that haven't logged in 90 days, 50 days, 25 days, etc. I've seen from https://machine.domain.com/webadaptor/sharing/rest/community that I can search for users and view their properties, lastLogin included. Just not sure if this is editable and if so, how to do that. Thanks!

There's a ton of variables here but in general, we've had great success with using ArcGIS Enterprise via Workspaces. 50% of our users edit their data via feature services in a Portal web map or app. The other half have Pro installed on their workspace and edit their data there. A lot of our end users mention that editing/geoprocessing is much faster via the workspace than on their local machines.

Running ArcGIS Enterprise 1091. I published a map service from a registered data store to our enterprise environment. I can see it in Server Manager and Portal but when I try to add it to a map, I get the error 'Unable to add to map'. In Server Manager, the rest url shows what I would expect: https://gis.company/arcgis/rest/services/folderName/serviceName In Portal, the url shows the internal/admin url: https://ip-12-190-111-80.internal:6443/arcgis/rest/services/folderName/serviceName Why would this happen and what can I do to have the portal item display the correct external url?

I too was getting this error when trying to run npm ci from the client folder. Although I was trying to install Experience Builder 1.9. npm ERR! gyp ERR! find VS You need to install the latest version of Visual Studio What I did to resolve: Install Visual Studio, not Visual Studio Code - I did not realize these are two different things Once VS is installed, use Visual Studio Installer to modify the install and add on Desktop Development with C++ Then, uninstall node.js 18.21.1 and install 14.21.1. Made sure to uncheck the box for Chocolatey. Hope this helps someone down the road.
