Often when building large terrain datasets, the processing time can be very long. Upwards of 2-4 weeks for a county wide terrain dataset derived from LiDAR. It would be great if we could leverage parallel processing in this tool. I have a machine with an i7 CPU and 64 GB RAM and the terrain build for a county wide dataset takes at least 14 days. At most, ArcGIS Pro utilizes 3 GB of RAM until phase 3 of the tool where it jumps to about 18 GB. I've gone through this doc on Best Practices of Building Large Terrain Datasets and Fundamentals of Building large Terrain Datasets. Good info here but I've found that building terrains in pieces doesn't always work. I've often gotten error 99999 when try to append multipoints so I ultimately build my terrain all at once using all my multipoints. I have 64GB of RAM and a good CPU on my machine, I would love if Pro could utilize this for the Terrain Build tool!

Thanks for your input! This was posted last month and since then I was able to get the terrain to build all at once. I did try building one quadrant, then using Append Tool to add more points > then rebuild. I kept getting an error 99999 when trying to run an append so eventually gave up on that. Another thing I tried was the Replace Terrain Points and specified the 2nd quadrant as my processing extent (where no points existed from the first build). This actually worked and appended my 2nd set of points to the terrain. However when I built the terrain, it came out with some pretty serious issues. So I just figured building it all at once would have the be move here. It took about 4 week and ran. Unfortunately I had to make some revisions and re-build the whole terrain again. It's on week 1 now..wish me luck!

Thank you. I do not see an option to download my experience builder app in 10.8.1 Portal like we can with Web AppBuilder. Do you know if this is in the product plan? Or is the download ability only available in the Developer Edition.

Thanks I will check out the "Remove feature from selection on save" setting. For Experience Builder, are we able to download this as a zip file and host it on our IIS? This is what we are doing for the WAB app and need to do this for our client. Currently we use WAB through ArcGIS Portal 10.7.1. We will get 10.8.1 set up this month and I think this should have Experience Builder as an application in the Portal.

We have a web map designed for the public to drop points and add comments. We'd prefer if once they create a point and hit save, the edit session is stopped so if they click on another point after that, the normal popup comes up. It can be a little confusing for non GIS folks to figure out how to stop editing once the smart editor is invoked. Thanks

Thanks! Unfortunately came across that one already and had them increase the timeout from 60 seconds to 6000. It still times out at 60 seconds exactly. Weird...

I have the smart editor widget enabled in my WAB app. I want the "edit session" to stop after a user has created and saved a point. Right now, if they make an edit and save, then click on another point, they are prompted to edit that point. Is there a way to make the smart editor widget automatically turn off when a user saves an edit?

Using ArcGIS Desktop 10.8.1 We are trying to create a replica of a geodata service from an external client. They have provided their GIS Server URL and credentials. I can connect to the GIS Server in ArcCatalog and see a Geodata and Map service. I've opened ArcMap and can bring in the Map Service and see the data. Using the distributed geodatabase toolbar in ArcMap, I've ran through the Create Replica wizard. I am pointing the data to an SDE database on our SQL Server 17. I'm getting this error at exactly 60 seconds after running through the wizard: The 504 error makes me think it's something on their end. I had them increase the timeout rate on the geodata service to 6000 seconds. Any other ideas?

How can I see the appropriate labels to use when posting a question? Specifically, I'm trying post a question under the Geoprocessing community. The Labels box is blank and I don't know what to put here. This is preventing me from posting my question and engaging with the community. I think when I posted in the ArcGIS Pro community, it listed some possible labels. This would be useful to see for every community I try to post to. Thanks!

I have created some point QueryLayers in ArcMap 1081. The layers are coming from a SQL Server 17 SDE Database. I am trying to figure out whether I can publish this data to our GIS Server as a feature service. Users will need to edit existing point locations and create new ones. When I go to publish, I get an error about no ObjectID: I can right click the error and select Add Incrementing IDs option which opens the Add Incrementing ID tool. When I run this, I get an error: If I remove the Create option in the feature service , I can successfully publish. Any ideas how to add an ObjectID field to the query layers?

Did you ever figure this out or get a solution from esri? I'm running into the same issue 😞 @George_Thompson do you have any ideas or could point me to someone who can assist? We have a web map showing a few mosaic dataset image services coming from our federated 1071 Image Server. The mosaic datasets are being filtered client side by the 'Name' attribute. When we print, the output PDF shows the entire mosaic dataset rather than the filtered one visible in the map view. Any ideas? Thanks!

I am building a large terrain dataset (roughly 2000 square miles) in ArcGIS Pro and need some advice on how to speed things up. I've ran through this article on Fundamentals of Building Large Terrains. The terrain will have 6 pyramid levels and span two counties so I've divided my multipoints into quadrants. My plan is to build the first terrain, the append the next set of multipoints and rebuild. Then continue this till all the multipoints have been incorporated into the terrain. I started the first process and the speed of the Build Terrain tool is going extremely slow. Looks like it will take multiple weeks to build one quadrant. I have 64GB ram available on my machine but Pro is only using about 3. Anything I can do to speed up the process? Given an unlimited budget (just an example here) , can someone give a basic breakdown of what ideal specs a computer should have for building a large terrain? My IT guys mentioned they can create a VM with beefed up specs or possibly purchase a machine strictly for terrain processing. I'd like to give them some 'best case' scenarios and work from there. Thanks!
