Hi, I know this is a tricky one .. and not so intuitive .. nStreetEdges ("number of street edges") is just a rule parameter I made up that starts with zero, and whenever the current edge in the recursion has a streetWidth attribute that is > 0, I add 1 to this rule parameter. Note the shape's streetWidth() attributes in the Object Attributes tab (Inspector). This means after the recursion is done, if nStreetEdges is >= 2, we know this is a corner lot. Okay? Hmm. Honestly, I don't believe (gut feeling) you will ever find a solution with a MBP that will fully satisfy you since Apple products are black box systems (e.g. graphics drivers). Trying to plug new hardware somewhere in between, I don't think it's in Apple's interest, therefore it may be tricky... But let me know if you find a solution. Switching to a PC laptop: No option? 😉 Matthias Buehler Head of 3D Technologies twitter: @MattB3D ------------------------------------ Garsdale Design Limited matthias.buehler@garsdaledesign.co.uk www.garsdaledesign.co.uk

Hey, I don't have experience with this, but I'm also interested in that topic. Do you have a specific model in mind? Cheers! m. Hi guys, Interesting. I've had to answer how to approach these meandring housing units about 3 years ago. 😉 The trim() is a cool operation, though it has the main restriction that the trim planes cannot be altered. They are only created (and are created automatically) after comp(f) - they cannot be set differently. They also cannot be rotated, .. Cheers, keep up the cool work! m. Hi Pedro, CityEngine can be used in any sort of project where you have to generate tons of precise 3d geometries. This does not only have to be buildings and cities. But this is used in many industries! There are many different examples that were made with CityEngine. I recommend you search very specific on google. Just three examples that you can search for more information: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Medieval Town ( on hills ) - I created this rule set when I was working in the CityEngine team. This example is available for download within CityEngine - Desert City - I also created this example myself. It is also available as a full downloadable example. - Favela - This is an example I have created in spare time with a friend and shows what you can do when you are good with CityEngine (and 3d graphics in general.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY5gU1J39Ec As said, CityEngine itself does not have analysis or similation functionality, since it is a modeling application. To to 3d-simulation, you need to export to an other tool, e.g. Esri's 3D-Analyst, which obviously can do 3d analysis, including terrain and so on. Or are you searching for something specific? Are you working on a specific project that would need specific rules? Please let me know.. Matt Interested in CityEngine training or services? Contact me! Hi Pedro, CityEngine is a procedural modeling application, which is dedicated to the creation of 3d city models. It does not have 3d analysis or simulation features. It can report geometric values of the processed geometries (for each 3d model), but nothing like explosion simulation or toxic cloud propagation. This has to be done in an analysis package, based on the resulting geometries you export from CityEngine. CityEngine can aggregate data from different sources (2D GIS, 3D models, terrain, ..) which all together form that 3d city model. To do the things you want, CityEngine is one piece of the puzzle, it can not do it all. Let me know if you need some more info. Kind greetings, Matt Interested in CityEngine training or services? Hi Stephanie, I'm not completely sure if I understand right. Are you using textures and color at the same time? Where do you see that the info is lost? In a specific application? Hi Kenneth Hehe, Chris was my Padavan .. hehe.. Hope he turns to the dark side too .. 😉 There is no way in CGA to get the information of how many shapes a split will produce 'before' you actually do the split. That is a well-known limitation of CGA. E.g. if you have a zig-zagged shape and you cut off the 'spikes', CGA cannot 'foresee' the result. You only know if once the split was actually done. Hi, Public participation is a very important topic. Just last week, I taught CityEngine at the Technical University of Vienna and this topic in particular was discussed. To do this properly, we'd need a lot more different functionality, not just GeoComments. A discussion about any needed features would be very interesting. Maybe let's start collecting ? Congrats! Good stuff. You've come a long way! What other tools did you use? What are the data sources for the many textured (non-procedural) buildings? Cheers! Hi, GeoComments are only possibly when being logged in. Therefore you need to have an AGOL account. If this were possible publicly, I'm sure some idiot would program a bot/virus that would spam the hell out of geocomments. Hey! I'm not sure if you used this link here: CityEngine Gallery | ArcGIS Resource Center I'd recommend to create a new workspace and try again there.. File > Switch Workspace > Other .. Then enter a new name. Also, did you try downloading from Help > Download tutorials and examples ? Let me know ..
