Hi Jamal, I think you have legitimate points with these two examples although we've deviated quite a bit from anything to do with the deprecation of the 3d toolbar tools. I discussed this thread with the User Advocacy Group and highlighted a number of your concerns/examples. They will be sure to discuss with the respective teams involved. My guess at what happened is the Explode UI command was in the software, then at some later date there was a need to automate the functionality, and another team created the GP tool and named it something different than the UI command. Just my hunch. Nonetheless, I see how it can create confusion. The Planarize Lines command does actually have some GP tools that do the same. For example, Feature to Line can be used to split the lines at intersections. Depending on whether or not you preserve attributes you will retain the overlapping line segments (preserving keeps overlap). There is also a simple model that could be built that would incorporate Intersect (output type points), Split Line at Point, and Delete Identical (using Shape field). Feature to Line works on more than just line input which is probably why it's not called Planarize Lines event though it can do the same thing. At the very least, searching on the word Planarize should return better results. I will submit a NIM to the team so that additional tags are added to the Feature to Line tool for search purposes. Thanks for your feedback. Best, Eric

Hi Mitch, I've tested ArcGIS 10.0 sp3 and ArcGIS 10.1 Beta 2 and both are giving me the expected result when running the Combine tool. What version are you using? I would suggest contact Esri Support. Eric

Mitch, How many unique combinations would you guess you have? Per the Usage tips within the Combine tool's documentation it says the following: "For formats other than ESRI GRID, by default, the output raster from this tool can only have a maximum of 65536 unique values. You can increase this number by changing a setting in ArcGIS. On the Main menu, select Customize > ArcMap Options. In the ArcMap Options dialog box, click on the Raster tab and modify the Maximum number of unique values to render field to an appropriate value." If there are more than 65536, an attribute table will not automatically be built. -Eric

Greetings, Without a screenshot to go off of, it sounds like you may have used Nearest resampling when you projected the data. Try projecting the original file again, but make sure you set the resampling to Bilinear. Regards, Eric

Ben, Service pack 3 is available so it wouldn't hurt to install it. As for output to geodatabase, you need to browse to one that you've created. I'm not sure what is going on with Cut/Fill especially without the data. Have you tried just subracting the bedrock dem from the glacial dem to get the difference in Z - then multiply that by the product of the cell size for x and y to get the volume of each pixel - then sum the whole raster? Its kind of the manual way to do it.... Just a thought. Regards, Eric

Hi Mark, In 10.1 the Clip function does not update the count field. It's not intended to at the current time. There is no on-the-fly recalculate field/attributes. It's simply chipping the pixels and creating a temporary layer. You must save it to rebuild the attribute table. Regards, Eric

Brett, If you only need (at first) to make a subset roughly 3GB in size you can do that certainly without the aforementioned 'content management tools' from Northrop. Create an empty MA catalog in your SDE instance. Set the type to RPF. Right click on it and choose the load option. Point to one CD worth of CIB after you copy it from the CD to the local drive. This will be a managed catalog so it will be loading all the images to your database which will take some time. I would encourage you to play around with using FGDB at first since it is not actually loading the data, but referencing it from its location on disc. In this way, you'll get the feel for the workflow and loading process. When loading in a FDGB I strongly urge you to not use mapped drives like C:\, but rather use UNC paths to the data. Otherwise when someone else connects to the MA catalog and they don't have the data stored on their machine in C:\ they won't see anything. You pretty much have to use UNC unless your going to be the only one viewing the catalog locally. Eric

Hey Ben, Yes, I do know what that means and it isn't good news. The only time volume will be returned as zero is when the input multipatch is not closed. The tool is supposed to create closed multipatches. I tested 10.1 beta 2 and it's working properly. I did find a bug where it still produces non closed multipatches but only if the inputs lack spatial reference information. I know you have defined the coordinates though and even reprojected. Not until 10.1 do we have the ability to easily close a multipatch - there is a new tool coming called Enclose Multipatch. If you run Is Closed 3D does it return 'No'? Did you output a shapefile multipatch or did you send it to a geodatabase? Also, what service pack do you have installed? I saw an older bug that said the tool produced non closed when going to shapefile but was working when going to geodatabase. Cut/Fill can still tell you the volume...if it comes to that. Regards, Eric

Hi Judith, First, buffer your points with the desired distances. You'll use the polygons in our Zonal tools from Spatial Analyst as the Zone Features. Since you're only interested in conifer data you may consider using Extract by Attribute to create a raster of just that for use in our Zonal tools. When running the zonal tools, set the processing extent to the habitat envelope raster. Regards, Eric

Hi Brett, I am pretty sure those tools come from Northrop Grumman. In reviewing the CGA software list I see the following: Northrop Grumman??s Geospatial Management and Provisioning Suite (GMPS) - Content management tools - Data provisioning Have you considered just buying a CGA? It will save you a lot of time and effort. Regards, Eric
